Mike, the Angel link doesn't work for me, but found it from the other link.

Amethyste, Angel is VERY nice. You have a nice voice.  :) The only thing I noticed was a little bit of unsureness. Keep at it and that will disappear.
A budding Star perhaps?

Unsureness... hmmm.... interesting.  If you're talking about the high notes, it could be caused by the editing software and the microphone, which are very problematic.  Every time she hits a high note, she has to turn away from the microphone so she doesn't max it out, then she must decrease the amplitude of that note with the editing software.

Of course this is just being recorded on her computer, and her last teacher had the same problem with her voice maxing out the mic in his professional recording studio.   ;D

It's a minor problem that will most likely work itself out.  ;)

Just listened to I Wanna Be With You. Excellent! Didn't hear any unsureness. It might just be the comfort level with the songs.

Wonderful!

The key to not overdriving a mic is distance. Try it at 2-3 feet, then 5 feet, until you get it bracketed to the right level. You'll lose any proximity effect you might have been getting, but with her voice that's not needed anyway (and can be restored with EQ if needed). At close range, even tiny changes in volume have a disproportionate effect. You do have to be extra-careful about background noise (and S:N) when you back away from the mic.

Some of the greatest vocal mics in the world have very limited dynamic ranges. When I worked in radio, my first station had ancient GE ribbon element mics, which are AWESOME for spoken vocals, but required very consistent distance and modulation from the speaker to avoid blowing them out. I used a 6" foam pop filter, had the mic at 90 degrees (sideways) to my mouth, and talked past the mic, rather than directly into it. The same mic for singing would have to be positioned at least 4-6 feet away in a dead room.

Amethyste Fisher - Barbie Girl, with Mike Fisher (http://www.ctgreatbay.com/files/af-barbiegirl.mp3)
LOL!!!

Rich talked to me last night at the Meet and Greet at the Keyes' house.

He said:

"Do you remember that Barbie Girl song you and your wife recorded together?? You know how almost nobody commented on it?? Well, I listened to it and I still have some respect for you."? Then we laughed.

LOL

For those new to the song, it's a parody of the typical American culture of rampant plastic surgery, consumption, and, our "number one priority", sex.

Pa-ro-dy:? Something so bad as to be equivalent to intentional mockery.? ?;)

Mike,
I'm thinking we have to have her give a concert. Does she want to? Perhaps with the new Arts Festival. Maybe in conjunction with the New England Shakespeare Festival. I'll talk to the Artistic director. What do you know about Ian? Where does he live? Can you get in touch with him? Maybe the two of them. Let's talk.

Most of the musical backings are used without permission.   ;D  Some were custom made for her, but most of them were... "borrowed" for personal use.

If she were going to make money, she'd have to find out who made them and pay royalties.

Mike, there's a possibility that we, down the road, could arrange for musical back-up. Guess it will have to wait. But thank Amethyste for the pleasure I have received from her singing, and hope she keeps it up.

Amethyste is upset at judges in the various online vocal competitions she's in.  They don't like anything but the attention-deficient teeny-bopper garbage they hear on the radio.  I try to tell her that her style fills a sizeable niche market, but she keeps entering these online popularity competitions for some reason.

As far as I know, most singers don't try to please everyone, so why should she?

Popularity, schmopularity. If she enjoy's singing, and others enjoy listening to her, who the f.... cares what some stupid judges think.
Amethyste has a rare talent. Period. Keep up the good work young lady, those of us who like quality are counting on you.

Does anyone here like techno music?

Two days ago, someone contacted my wife about using her vocals for their techno music because she was interested in doing techno-opera or similar recordings!!!   :o

As of tonight, the first complete draft of the first song has already been recorded.  It sounds amazing.  I am in complete shock! :o

This is great stuff!  8)

Unfortunately, I'm not allowed to post it online at this point.   :(

I like some techno, and some trance. It reminds me of what I coined "Euro throb" in the mid-80s when I was stationed in Germany, because there wasn't an American term for the custom DJ mixes being played in the discotheques there.

I look forward to hearing Amethyste's new work. I've enjoyed everything that's been posted thus far. She reminds me of Sarah Brightman, especially the "Eden" album.

I'm very eclectic in my tastes, and I don't pay much attention to popular radio. I don't have a huge collection, but my iTunes library shows 1396 songs, total play time 3 days, 18 hours, 49 minutes; that includes my ripped CD collection and a modest 122 songs from the iTunes Music Store (mostly the free weekly downloads). I've got another 30-40 hours' worth on vinyl that I've never ripped to digital, but I hope to get around to that, someday.

Scrolling through the artist list, picking a few random names:
A Flock Of Seagulls;
Aaron Neville;
Alvin Slaughter;
Anthrax;
Asleep At The Wheel;
Bad Company;
Bill & Gloria Gaither & Their Homecoming Friends;
Ceredwen;
Clint Black;
Creed;
Cyndi Lauper;
DC Talk;
Dire Straits;
Earl Klugh;
enigma;
Eric Clapton;
Evanescence;

.... Well, you get the idea. A few more favorites off the top of my head: Jerry Jeff Walker, Jennifer Rush, Loreena McKennitt, Sarah McLachlin, Leo Kottke, Rush, and, most especially, Stevie Ray Vaughn.

Yeah, I've got room for techno.  :)

Wow....

*HUGE BLUSH*

I didn't know there was a thread about me in here.... I don't know what to say!?
Funny what you can find on Google when you type your name lol....? ;D

Anyways.... I am collaborating with a new Label ( I cant mention them right now ) as of right now, and I am devoting a lot of my free time to work closely with the music producer from the Label. He mostly does Trance/Dance/Techno. Somehow, he found my voice interesting and well suited for this type and I didn't believe him at first. But after hearing the first song "Will You be there", I think I can manage! This genre of music is not as popular in the US as it is in Europe. But my singles will be distributed in Clubs through DJs and also will be available for purchase in November/December. I'll keep you guys posted on newest events as they come :)

I am thinking eventually I would be able to sing for people - I am still REALLY shy about my singing and I think I'd die doing it in front of people. It's something I need to work on I guess. As of right now, all my recordings are done on a home computer and I mix everything myself. It's not professional grade, but its a learning experience. THank you for your support, I am a starving artist, but its aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaall good ;)

LOVE YOU ALL!!! THanks for listening!!!

PS: I will ask my producer if I can upload a demo of one of the songs ( they are 1/2 done remixes ) so you guys can get a taste of what I am working on. BUT you'll have to promise me that you'll buy the cds when they come out ;)

I also re-did a lot of new recordings of old ones... i'll have Michael re-load a new one of O Mio Babbino Caro - I'll remember is actually pretty decent too. I am going to work on Nobody does it better this week.... Should be online shortly :) Classical is still my first love :)

I can see why they chose her; her voice has a certain timbre that goes very well with what they're doing.

In the second one, the stereo chorus with a hint of delay between channels works great!

Heck yes, I'll buy them when they come out!

Hey guys... :)
Here's another song that we made - its a remade of a 1986 Madonna's song: Live to Tell.
Brings back GREAT memories - I graduated that year!!! Oh the horror!!!!
I have the original on my website but this one is re-mastered... it's actually pretty good :) Since it's going to be an official release - all I can offer is a 2min preview. Hope you like it.

Unfortunately, I didn't have the chance to have Michael to load the song on the website.. The link will expire in 10 days!!!! Anyhow, here it is... ya can d/l it through this link:

Rofl @ Spock.

I just did another one: "My Heart Will Go On". This backing is very special b/c it has bagpipes and has a very Irish feel to it. Just beautiful. It has a 2mins 30 sec intro so it takes patience :) Hope you like this. It's not like Celine at all. Obviously, I didn't have to hit my chest to sing this lol. THere are some high notes here and there in the ad libs, but I rarely get to use my high range, so when I can stick something here and there, I just love to do it.  ;D

A little bit of AutoTune wouldn't hurt...

Yeah autoTune is for Britney Spears and Ashlee Simpson. I may be out of tune once in a while. Try to sing along with bagpipes. Actually singing is not an easy thing. I don't modify my voice or record from a professional studio. Just from my computer. I think I am not doing so badly. THat's a good thing I have confidence, b/c reading shit like you type would be enough to make someone doubt their artistic abilities.

And I didn't know "bagpipes" could do pitchbends either. Hmm.

An ex-spurt such as yourself should know what uillean pipes are, and that they do appear to bend pitch.

(They don't really, but the use of semitones makes it sound like bending pitch.)

I like it. I don't listen to a lot of music but it makes me think, "Electronic Abba".

The liberty ladies thread seems like a good place to edit out distastefull comments. Just let me know and I can delete any offensive posts.
I think Kat can make Amethyst a moderator of this part of the forum also. :)

Nah, I don't think the liberty ladies need to be protected through moderation of their forum.

They can obviously take care of themselves.   8)

Did sung delete his own post?   ???

It's actually annoying that his post was deleted because I can't even see what he said that pissed off my wife.

Nah.... Everyone is entitled to their opinion.
Just wish Autotune would work some magic on his attitude. Wouldn't that be nice?
But then dont worry little guy, it's no big deal - ya didnt make me sad. Just a little stronger. THanks for that.

All of these songs are recorded on a $30 radio shack microphone into a software recording studio on a PC.  MANY effects are applied to her voice after recording that can modify the pitch.  THEN it's translated into MP3 format to make matters even worse.

She's off-pitch sometimes while singing, but not often from what I've heard.  I really love Amethyste's music, now more than ever before!  She has grown a lot as a vocalist.   :)

Whether tis nobler...

Oh what a rogue and peasant slave am I.
Whether 'tis nobler to throw off these chains
Of accursed government, or to be meek,
Safety is in my mind, methinks, yet, to be free,
Or not to be free, that is the question.
To be free, of that I perchance dream,
In idle waking moments as the chains
Weigh heavily upon me.
Out damn spot! You cursed sign of slavery!
Clean my naked soul of your feigned security,
Let me be what I will be, none else,
Not what you will choose for me, but I alone,
I proclaim myself free, thou tyrant, off my back I say,
Find another, you will not prevail this day.
