Polar Bear swim! I've been looking for a local Polar Bear Group. If I can make it I will definitely take the plunge.
Most of us new movers are still getting used to the neverending winter here to begin with, and you expect us to plunge into ice cold water too? You are now certifiably insane.

Correction, the winter does end,....just not as soon as elsewhere. ;D I won't argue with you that Dale is certifiably insane, much anyway.
Ye all be wimps for not jumping into the icy waters of New Hampshire!! :icon_pirat:
We're in desperate need of a ridleographer for this event. Dave said he won't be there.
Just bumping this thread as a reminder. It takes place tomorrow and we need someone to film it for YouTube.

I think my penis is cuddling up next to a kidney or something, but I'm expecting it to return sometime before Porcfest.
Actually, the swim was cake. My only problem was with being barefoot in the snow. I literally could not feel my feet. There was just a shock of pain from about the ankle down. Everybody was complaining about their feet. I was in a hurry to get back to my jacket that was laid out on the snow so I could dry my feet and get them warm again. Once I dried them and put on my flip flops, I was doing just fine. I dried myself off and was standing in mid-30s weather in just flip flops and a wet swim suit and was fine.
;D I have truly fallen in among crazy folk.
Yeah, about that...
There will be video. Not sure how good it will turn out. It wasn't a proper video camera. More like a digital camera that can do some video. I think it could be a fun promotional video for FSP on YouTube, particularly if they edit well and add some cute music.
And they call me crazy. ;) Well, at least you didn't go into shock. Sometimes I used to go into a mild shock when Dada would leave the little shower plunger thingey up so that the shower would come on immediately (before I had time to warm the water up.) I always used to plot his death by torture when he would do that. Cold water makes my heart hurt. You are insane. But you are alive, and that's all that matters.
TMI, TMI!

Polar bears triumph! with a time of 15 seconds in the water - a new record!
Anyone interested in another swim on Jan 1?

Someone said it takes about 15 minutes to risk hypothermia at those temperatures. I wouldn't dare come close to that but I was thinking maybe 3 mins is a pretty safe margin. I can say after doing it that there was no risk of hypothermia for what we did, at least not for me and my metabolism. Other than my feet hurting, I was comfortably warm again in moments.
:o Hardy, but crazy.

Oh Hells yeah! Why are we waiting so long? March is supposed to have even colder water. Actually, I think the seacoast group is planning another one in March.
Hope I can make it next time.
WTH? You guys didn't even bother swimming. Wusses. :)

Trying to balance it out after the jello wrestling video, eh?

If I'd seen a polar bear swim BEFORE I signed up, I probably wouldn't be here right now.

Next time they should plan it during high tide so they don't have to walk out so far to get wet. The waves in the background looked pretty rough.
Keeping the shoes on past the snow woulda been good...the little boy at end had the right idea :)
I used to swim here when it'd thaw in the spring, water temperature must have been compriable. I only could take about 5 minutes of swimming early in the spring.

I really need to go to this board more often, cause I would have loved to have gone to this!

Nope. You didn't hear? The government outlawed it.

A polar bear plunge is like drinking. It's more fun when it's social.
