According to a Porc 411 Dave Ridley was at Manchester City Hall and police bothered him because of a complaint that someone logged against him. Dave said he was gathering signatures and he asked a woman and a group of juveniles they said they were working Dave said he asked them who they were working for. At the end of the call Dave said the officers were leaving the scene and yelled a question why they were leaving and apparently no answer from the police.
Probably a suspicious person complaint...
Dave is pretty well known, so ID'ing him wouldn't be necessary. And asking for signatures, though suspicious to some, isn't threatening.
Just listened to a very lengthy voice mail from Dave about what happened.....and it sounds like he was collecting signatures when a group of younger people and a middle aged woman came out from city hall. Since the younger people might have been old enough to vote he asked if they would sign the petition (FYI - he's been collecting signatures for NHAC's spending cap for at least a month now). The woman said they're not old enough and that they are working. He asked who they worked for and she told them not to talk to Dave - or something like that. Dave kept asking who they worked for and the woman didn't answer. They left and must have called the police saying that Dave was harassing them. Now, I've been with Dave at city hall and he hardly harasses anyone. Needless to say the police came and left. The Manchester Republican Committee chair, Will Infantine, and the mayor have both been in contact with Dave and have been trying to figure out who this woman was, etc.
So - bizarre situation, but nothing to be concerned about at all......

Except for the police harassment. ::)
Well there is a difference between police harassing someone and police checking out a call they got. It doesn't seem that this rises even close to the level of the open carry BS.

Maybe not, but they still accosted him and stole his time.
True true - I remember hearing somewhere that if a police officer detains you/gives you a ticket and detains you, you can bill them for your time at the rate you usually earn. The case I heard was about a guy who got a ticket and waited around because the police detained him, then wrote a bill on the ticket before the officer signed it.
But that may be completely untrue.

Or it may be completely true, but doesn't matter anyway because the city or town would just ignore your bill, which would likely be the case.

Then deduct the amount from your next property tax bill.
Or just ignore their bills in return. ;D

Yeah, but you don't have a goon squad to send after them, and they have one to send after you. ;D
Were the woman and others free to leave at any time? This will be interesting.
No one can hide from truth.
Thanks guys!

Caught on tape: NH Cops question Ridley Report
http://youtube.com/watch?v=PN9d_et21zw
Abusing both Manchester cops and the Ridley Report in one stroke...a shadowy chaparone tries to interfere with petitioning of New Hampshire voters. All while operating on a government grant.
What was even more telling was Dave Ridley's video of the second time that police came up to him, namely this one
In the Red areas of the country, the reason why police have to be shoved in everybody's face all the time is: "Help! Help! Morality is under attack! People are having gay weddings! People are selling wine on Sunday!!! Helllp!!!!
In the Blue areas of the country, the reason why police have to be shoved in everybody's face all the time is: Help! Help! Greedy capitalist pigs!!! They're using offshore tax shelters! They're drilling too much oil!! They're not having enough safety inspections!!! People are going to the state park and are picking flowers out of the state park and it's hurting the environment!! Hellpp!!!!!
In the Libertarian areas of the country, the reason why police have to be shoved in everybody's face all the time is the silliest reason of all: Help!! Help!! People are trampling on each other's Constitutional rights!!! The right to petition is trampling on the right to not hear things that people don't want to hear!!! Send the police!! Hellllpppp!!!!!
Note I got from the mayor's office regarding the shadowy government program whose organizer tried to stop me from petitioning young voters in Manchester.

Neighborhood Pride Summer Youth Employment Program
The Manchester Community Resource Center has contracted with the City of Manchester to coordinate, facilitate and implement the Neighborhood Pride Summer Youth Employment Program. The program began on July 7, 2008 and will conclude on August 22, 2008. MCRC has employed one coordinator, 5 peer supervisors and 24 young adults ages 14-21 years for a seven week period. Each employee will work a 24/hour work week.
The program offers an expansion of traditional education services now offered in Manchester. The program combines 6 hours per week of instructor-led basic academics, team building exercises and job readiness skills training with 18 hours per week of On the Job Training. Students will also have the opportunity to learn through a variety of methods, allowing each student to discover their own personal learning style, fully utilize that style to achieve their personal goals and explore career opportunities.
MCRC staff members will provide complete oversight for the design, the coordination and implementation of the work plan. Three major goals will be accomplished within the 7-week programs.
1. Employees will receive JOB READINESS/CAREER DEVELOPMENT skills:
a) Career Development: assessing skills and abilities, identifying and overcoming barriers, identifying career goals
b) Resume Writing/Applying for Work: creating an effective resume, composing a cover letter, completing job applications, and effective methods for sending resumes
c) Computer Literacy: basic computer skills training, completing on-line applications, completing on-line pre-employment assessments, self directed learning tools, email and internet job search
d) Reading and Math Literacy: Consumer Math, Shop Math, Personal Budgeting, , Professional Communication, and Daily Journaling

f) Job Retention and Advancements: balancing work with home, work ethics, communication skills, teamwork, time management, conflict resolution at work.
2. Employees will participate in the NEIGHBORHOOD PRIDE community beautification project. Projects will be identified through the City Planning Department, Parks & Recreation and the Weed & Seed Neighborhood Restoration Committee. Identified sites include: Canal Street, local parks, City gateways and the Highway Department.
a) Acquire strong work ethics
b) Develop work maturities/competencies
c) Clean and maintain the City's gateways/parks
d) Increase community awareness and pride
3. Each individual will participate in classroom exercises that will assist in identifying career goals. Participants will be assigned to City Departments and local non-profit organizations for series JOB SHADOWING.
a) Define career goals
b) Reinforce the skills learned in the classroom"
Wow, this is really sick. They make it nearly impossible for private persons to hire minors and then claim to teach these minors "work ethics" by subjecting them to state indoctrination paid for by tax victims?

Well it certainly is a lot more friendly-sounding than "The Brownshirts."

Yep, they sure do make it impossible.
