Title: Top 10 Signs You Might Not Be A Libertarian
Post by: thinkliberty on August 30, 2009, 09:00 AM NHFT
From the dailykos of all places!?

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2009/8/30/773243/-Top-10-Signs-You-Might-Not-Be-A-Libertarian

QuoteNotice a propensity of newly minted Libertarians showing up lately? Perhaps it's just coincidence their ranks swelled in inverse proportion to George Bush's approval rating, ditto that so many are mouthing traditional conservative talking points. But what about the everyday gun toting townhall screamers and taxcutters and deficit hawks we see on cable news: are they really libertarian as so many claim, or just conservatives in glibertarian clothes? Here's a few warning signs....

With dailykos in the link I really don't need to go there.

Left wing ignorant prattle.  Not worth the bandwidth to read.  Its also clear that they don't understand Libertarians or Conservatives.

I thought it was funny and hits the mark in some cases. Even calls to task the liberal authoritarians. :)

Let's make our own list. How about this to get us started?

* You are constantly pressuring people to vote as part of some social responsibility, kind of like the notion of a social contract.

I actually took a moment to read it and it's actually not a bad list considering it came from some flaming liberals! They seem spot on with a number of those, even though they're obviously taking the opportunity to take a jab at a few libertarian viewpoints that they take issue with, like gun control.

I don't understand conservatives.

I agree and it's interesting that they are complaining about how many newly self-described libertarians are out there.  Even the open carry point was directed at people who felt that wearing a message t-shirt warranted arrest. I think drawing a line between libertarian and conservative is useful.  I also think drawing a line between pro-free market and pro-business is needed, especially for conservatives.

You can certainly be a supporter of a social contract and a libertarian.  I am, for one.  Also, I'm a big supporter of voting (especially in NH towns where you get to vote on far more issues than almost anywhere else in the world).

Agreed!  I never proposed that one should vote due to social responsibility or contract.
I'm saying that if you don't try everything, including strategic political stuff, you're likely to see little progress on achieving change in NH.

Is there a differance between Libertarian and libertarian? Conservative and conservative? or Independant and independant?

I label myself as independant libertarian conserative.
