The ancient stone structures are fascinating. Although looking into Jim Vieira and his TEDx content that was taken down... giants and other stuff the Smithsonian is supposedly keeping us from knowing about. http://tedxshelburnefalls.wordpress.com/2012/12/14/jim-vieiras-talk-removed-from-internet/
I think it is probably one of those situations where you have to weed the wheat from the chaff. And sometimes someone's interpretation of evidence is the issue. His knowledge as a stone mason and his debunking the notion that they were colonial root cellars... I completely agree with.
It would be fun to plan an expedition to one of the Shire sites mentioned... good thought for the homeschool kids. :D Thanks for the idea.
Damn interesting .
I liked this place:

What is America's Stonehenge?
Built by a Native American Culture or a migrant European population? No one knows for sure. A maze of man-made chambers, walls and ceremonial meeting places, America's Stonehenge is most likely the oldest man-made construction in the United States (over 4000 years old).
Like Stonehenge in England, America's Stonehenge was built by ancient people well versed in astronomy and stone construction. It has been determined that the site is an accurate astronomical calendar. It was, and still can be, used to determine specific solar and lunar events of the year.
Various inscriptions have been found throughout the site including Ogham, Phoenician and Iberian Punic Script. Dr. Barry Fell of Harvard University did extensive work on the inscriptions found at the site. They are detailed in his book America B.C.
Quoteyou have to weed the wheat from the chaff
Doubt everything, but especially doubt those who dismiss out-of-hand anything that doesn't fit their preconceived notions.
If you like this kind of thing, as I do, you should read Gavin Menzies.

There are very few instances in life where one doesn't have to mess with the whole wheat/chaff thing.
