That's like a ride in the way-back machine.
I used to see Til' Tuesday play in a small bar/club before they "made it."
I'm recalling that that album (their first) had some other good stuff on it.
'Suzanne' Lenard Cohen
Ok, here i go. You people might not have herd some of this stuff. I suggest you check out the songs with the * after it.
1. Steve Vai, Song for Ireland *
2. Steve Vai, Touching toungs * http://www.vai.com/SightsSounds/aural_fixation/index.html
3. Steve vai, Rescue me or bury me *
4. Stryper, Battle Hym of the Republic.
5. Dreame Theatre, Live an other day.

Wow, I've never heard of most of these except for Bohemian Rapsody, Queen
American Pie, Don Mclean, which I like too! I have some Beethoven, (I think), that I play when I'm getting a long bubble bath, it's very relaxing.

I think there used to be a show on HBO about cab drivers and their weirdo customers so I bet you have some interesting stories. I was hitchhiking in Connecticut when I was 15, (I hated the school bus, it wasn't cool), and this cabby picked me up and asked me if I got high before school, I said, "before, during and after. Anyways he showed me his triscuit box full of Columbian Gold and after that he picked me up everyday and I floated through my days of school. 8)

On advice of counsel and wife, I plead the Fifth. But... yeah. Thanks for the video link.
The 80s (and 80s music) sucked in many ways, but there was more creativity and originality visible on a wider scale than at any other time. The 60s had the motto of "do your own thing", but in the 80s, we actually did. And from the 90s through today, music and people have been stuffed back into pigeonholes yet again.
Kevin
I love so many different songs, and so many different types of music, that I had to think back about which songs have stuck with me over the last 25+ years.
I have more than a week's worth of continuous play in my iTunes folder, and sadly that doesn't include the LP and cassette stuff from my teens until I was 23 and bought my first CD, nor those CDs I traded away until iTunes came along and I started saving my music.
But having thought it over...
1. Pie Jesu, Andrew Lloyd Weber's Requiem
2~~ Just about anything by Jerry Jeff Walker
3. Shorty's Friends around a campfire.
'House Of The Rising Sun' Joan Baez version
http://www.greghowe.com/
Anything by this guy. He plays classical with the amp plugged in and cranks it UP!
Lloyd, I've been on a real Leonard Cohen kick the past week or so. One of my favorites is "Who By Fire." And at least once a week when I'm at home I walk into a room hearing my father sing that Harry Chapin song . . . without it being on the radio.
(a woefully incomplete list, many associated with memories of past loves or heartbreaks)
8 Days a Week--Beatles
Under My Thumb--Stones
Dancing In The Moonlight--King Harvest
Anything by Steely Dan
Call Me The Breeze-Skynyrd
Blue Bayou--Ronstadt version
Photograph--Def Leppard
Bring On The Night--Police
Breakfast In America--Supertramp
Any Way That You Want It--Journey
Heartbreak Beat--Psychedelic Furs
Twenty-Nine Palms--Robert Plant
It's In The Way That You Use It--Clapton
Most anything Tim McGraw

Face it Kat we be old... well at least I am. ;D
In the U.S. it wouldnt be considered mainstream, so for most people to not have heard of it is not odd at all.
Most of those artists are considered militant or "conscious" reggae.
I gravitate towards music with socially relevent lyrics and I'm partial to music that is rhythm heavy; in part from being a bass player/DJ.
Im 36, not so young really; actually I feel like an old man.
Walk between the raindrops - Donald Fagen comes to mind. That whole Nightfly LP is my lifelong fav!

When I was preparing to head over to the debate rally at Saint A's, I was thinking of chants and songs and this song came to mind as a campaign song for Ron Paul. The lyrics are simple and could be added to and modified. The hook could have "Ron Paul!" added in between.
Argent, "Hold Your Head Up"

But, that being said, the more "Steely Dan", the better ;)

Anything by Queen or Extreme certainly ranks fairly high with me.
Beyond that I guess it depends on what's on my MP3 player at any given time.

Have any of you people herd Frank Zappas "Joes Garage"? It is a multy CD set that discusses, in satire, our nation how it is turning out now. I really like
Soulshine
by Gov't MuleWhen you can't find the light
That guides you through a cloudy day
When the stars ain't shinin' bright
And you fill like you've lost you're way
When the candle lights of home
Burn so very far away
Well you got to let your soul shine
Just like my daddy used to say
He used to say soul shine
It's better than sunshine
It's better than moonshine
Damn sure better than rain
Hey now people don't mind
We all get this way sometimes
Got to let your soul shine
Shine till the break of day
I grew up thinkin' that I had it made
Gonna make it on my own
But life can take the strongest man
And make him feel so alone
Now and then I feel a cold wind
Blowin' through my achin' bones
I think back to what my daddy said
He said A"Boy, in the darkness before the dawnA"
Let your soul shine
It's better than sunshine
It's better than moonshne
Damn sure better than rain
Yeah now people don't mind
We all get this way sometimes
Got to let your soul shine
Shine till the break of day
Sometimes a man can feel this emptiness
Like a woman has robbed him of his very soul
A woman too, God knows, she can feel like this
And when your world seems cold
You got to let your spirit take control
Let your soul shine
It's better than sunshine
It's better than moonshne
Damn sure better than rain
Lord now people don't mind
We all get this way sometimes
Got to let your soul shine
Shine till the break of day
Oh, it's better than sunshine
It's better than moonshne
Damn sure better than rain
Yeah now people don't mind
We all get this way sometimes
Got to let your soul shine
Shine till the break of day

Very good!
When I was at a low point (strange as that seems here in NH) a nice friend (a very early mover) told me, "Don't give up: You have friends . . ." Her sweet (and young sounding) voice has a quality that reminds me of the voice in this song. I did not mention the song - of coarse - but thanked her.
It was an important thing to hear at the time.
If you have ever been quite down and had someone say just the right thing, in just the right tone, at just the right time, then you know how nice it is to have Friends like her.
The song is an old favorite - - - Though the video does nothing for me.

I love the song and the video. Kate is very angelic, in her voice AND as she is portrayed on the vid. Her voice and lyrics are very comforting. Sometimes when we think we can't go on it is nice to have guidance and reassurance, whether it be from a friend here on earth or a friend in the spiritual world.

Save Macaulay - One Shot Confession
Great lyrics...
Some folks are born made to wave the flag,
Ooh, theyre red, white and blue.
And when the band plays hail to the chief,
Ooh, they point the cannon at you, lord,
It aint me, it aint me, I aint no senators son, son.
It aint me, it aint me; I aint no fortunate one, no,
Yeah!
Some folks are born silver spoon in hand,
Lord, dont they help themselves, oh.
But when the taxman comes to the door,
Lord, the house looks like a rummage sale, yes,
It aint me, it aint me, I aint no millionaires son, no.
It aint me, it aint me; I aint no fortunate one, no.
Some folks inherit star spangled eyes,
Ooh, they send you down to war, lord,
And when you ask them, how much should we give?
Ooh, they only answer more! more! more! yoh,
It aint me, it aint me, I aint no military son, son.
It aint me, it aint me; I aint no fortunate one, one.
It aint me, it aint me, I aint no fortunate one, no no no,
It aint me, it aint me, I aint no fortunate son, no no no,

I hate the world today
You're so good to me
I know but I can't change
tried to tell you but you look at me like maybe I'm an angel
underneath
innocent and sweet
Yesterday I cried
You must have been relieved to see the softer side
I can understand how you'd be so confused
I don't envy you
I'm a little bit of everything
all rolled into one
Chorus:
I'm a bitch, I'm a lover
I'm a child, I'm a mother
I'm a sinner, I'm a saint
I do not feel ashamed
I'm your health, I'm your dream
I'm nothing in between
You know you wouldn't want it any other way
So take me as I am
This may mean you'll have to be a stronger man
Rest assured that when I start to make you nervous
and I'm going to extremes
tomorrow I will change
and today won't mean a thing
Chorus
Just when you think you've got me figured out
the season's already changing
I think it's cool you do what you do
and don't try to save me
Chorus
I'm a bitch, I'm a tease
I'm a goddess on my knees
when you hurt, when you suffer
I'm your angel undercover
I've been numbed, I'm revived
can't say I'm not alive
You know I wouldn't want it any other way

While the music played you worked by candlelight
Those san francisco nights
You were the best in town
Just by chance you crossed the diamond with the pearl
You turned it on the world
Thats when you turned the world around
Did you feel like jesus
Did you realize
That you were a champion in their eyes
On the hill the stuff was laced with kerosene
But yours was kitchen clean
Everyone stopped to stare at your technicolor motor home
Every a-frame had your number on the wall
You must have had it all
You'd go to l.a. on a dare
And you'd go it alone
Could you live forever
Could you see the day
Could you feel your whole world fall apart and fade away
Get along, get along kid charlemagne
Get along kid charlemagne
Now your patrons have all left you in the red
Your low rent friends are dead
This life can be very strange
All those dayglow freaks who used to paint the face
They've joined the human race
Some things will never change
Son you were mistaken
You are obsolete
Look at all the white men on the street
Get along, get along kid charlemagne
Get along kid charlemagne
Clean this mess up else well all end up in jail
Those test tubes and the scale
Just get them all out of here
Is there gas in the car
Yes, theres gas in the car
I think the people down the hall
Know who you are
Careful what you carry
cause the man is wise
You are still an outlaw in their eyes
Get along, get along kid charlemagne
Get along kid charlemagne
Nice.
Now the grown up Goliath nation
Holdin open auditions for the part of David, can you feel it?
Nothing can save ya, you question the reign
You get rushed in and chained up
Fist raised but I must be insane
cos I can't figure a single goddamn way to change it
[...]
Talking about you don't support a crackhead
What you think happens to the money from your taxes
Shit the governments an addict
With a billion dollar a week kill brown people habit
And even if you aint on the front line
when massah yell crunch time you right back at it
Plain look at how you hustling backwards
At the end of the year add up what they subtracted
Three outta twelve months your salary pays for that madness
Man, that's sadness
What's left get a big ass plasma
To see where they made Dan Rather point the damn camera
Only approved questions get answered
Now stand your ass up for that national anthem

Sublime - What I Got (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ns6FoCiEsq8&fmt=18)
I
almost saw Sublime live; sadly, the lead singer OD'ed a couple of hours before the show. I only found this out after two cross-town buses. At first I thought the doorman was messing with me when he said the show was cancelled on account of dead singer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bradley_Nowell).
He had such a beautiful voice, too. :'(

Bruce Dickinson - Tears of a Dragon
When I was back in Wisconsin and employed as a 3rd shift Bus Mechanic I would practice singing this song at the top of my lungs whenever I was moving a bus from one lot to another. The video is strange but the music is great.
Another good Metal Ballad:
Annihilator - Phoenix Rising
This video has a lot of really cool phoenix imagery.
Tenacious D: Master Exploder

"Me and KG wrote this song 5 minutes ago..."
Great song and hilarious video.
OK 1 last song for now ::)

I liked the Iced Earth piece. Looks like they are touring.

You're right. I always thought that was Nirvana (I guess I'm not the only one). The video poster seems confused: in the video, he credits Nirvana for the song but has "Stone Temple Pilots - Creep" in the information box.
EDIT: The video I posted was a cover,
by Nirvana of the Stone Temple Pilots' song. Listen to the original and the difference is noticeable.

Of course the songs differ; one is the studio recording, and one is a live performance.

The drums don't seam like Dave's style, though that's not to much to go on... and the guitar in the background of the chorus (just pinpointing one spot at about 3:18) is not Kurt's style...
From a real hardcore Nirvana fan and mild STP fan... this is not Nirvana, though Courtney has a bunch of tapes of unreleased songs by Kurt, no Nirvana release has ever been this song! It was released on the STP album Core... look it up

Everybody is giving thumbs down to the comments that are saying the truth... this song is not by NIrvana and it's not called "Half the Man I used to be"... It's "Creep" by Stone Temple Pilots!!! And Nirvana never covered it, if you've heard two versions of the song, than it's because the version used for the music video was a little different than the one on the album. That is definitely Scott Weiland's voice, and not Kurt's (though it is remarkably similar in this song).
More evidence: the album Core, STP's first, wasn't even released until 9/29/92. Cobain blew his head off 4/5/94. The odds of one of the biggest bands in the world at the time (Nirvana) covering a recently released song of a new, competing band (STP) "lambasted in some quarters as cynical clones of the then-vaunted "Seattle sound"" (from the album's amazon review (http://www.amazon.com/Core-Stone-Temple-Pilots/dp/B000002IU3/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1214116464&sr=1-2) , during one of their final live performances, seem slim.

I love Lynyrd Skynyrd! I saw them in concert about 3 years ago, of course their not all the original band members but they still sounded great!
There was this girl in front of me & my girlfriend sitting on her boyfriend's shoulders smoking a doobie and rocking to the music. My friend talked bad about her for like a half an hour until I said, yeah, your just jealous because if we sat on our boyfriend/husband's neck we'd kill them because of our fat butts. She laughed, she knew it was true! When I saw the girl I thought, damn I used to be able to do that before Rick's neck hurt all the time and I gained weight.;D >
Here is the boot up your ass song I was talking about:
Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue (The Angry American)
American Girls and American Guys
We'll always stand up and salute
We'll always recognize
When we see Ole Glory Flying
There's a lot of men dead
So we can sleep in peace at night
When we lay down our head
My daddy served in the army
Where he lost his right eye
But he flew a flag out in our yard
Till the day that he died
He wanted my mother, my brother, my sister and me
To grow up and live happy
In the land of the free.
Now this nation that I love
Has fallen under attack
A mighty sucker punch came flying in
From somewhere in the back
Soon as we could see clearly
Through our big black eye
Man, we lit up your world
Like the 4th of July
Hey Uncle Sam
Put your name at the top of his list
And the Statue of Liberty
Started shaking her fist
And the eagle will fly
And there's gonna be hell
When you hear Mother Freedom
Start ringing her bell
And itll feel like the whole wide world is raining down on you
Ahhh Brought to you Courtesy of the Red White and Blue
Ohhh Justice will be served
And the battle will rage
This big dog will fight
When you rattle his cage
And you'll be sorry that you messed with
The U.S. of A.
'Cause we'll put a boot in your ass
It's the American way
Hey Uncle Sam
Put your name at the top of his list
And the Statue of Liberty
Started shaking her fist
And the eagle will fly
And there's gonna be hell
When you hear Mother Freedom
Start ringing her bell
And itll feel like the whole wide world is raining down on you
Brought to you Courtesy of the Red White and Blue
Uhhh Ohhh
Of the Red, White and Blue
Ohhh Ohh Oh
Of My Red, White and Blue

[Lyrics: Christian]
Damn the machine the system's corrupted
Abusive power is everywhere
Our elected officals, pass laws to help
But who's paying them off
And in the end, we the people pay
Such a heavy price, just for being alive
And if this country was really free
We'd make paper from hemp and let the forest live
But corporate America, and billion dollar industries
Have so much power
Yet they stand to lose
Too much fucking money
There's nothing we can do... but...
Take back all that we've lost
At any price that it costs
Our freedom was worth fighting for
Resistance now or nevermore
[Solo: James]
And what about the CIA
What the fuck is their real job anyway
Starting civil wars in Third World countries
Importing heroin from the far east
Talk about cocaine, neither kept away
From the youths of today... now
There's nothing we can do... but...
Take back all that we've lost
At any price that it costs
Our freedom was worth fighting for
Resistance now or nevermore

I've listened to this song at least a hundred times, and relate to it in some ways more than I care to tell :P , but I never fully picked up on the whole metaphor-for-modern-American-culture until I watched this video just now. Please excuse the low production quality; Cake never quite hit the big time.

Great one Friday! :)
I looked up this song cuz I heard on the radio this morning they're coming out with a sequel to The Lost Boys. What the hell?! (What's next, the Breakfast Club 20 Year Reunion?) But wow, this is an intensely anti-U.S. government video. Warning: disturbing imagery.

Just before Christmas around 1957 our parents surprised us with a Mono Record Player. It was, pretty much, Christmas carols and Show Tunes until my sister and I found the Record Department at Korvettes and the 45RPM adapter. My sister liked Johnny Mathas and I think the first time I heard 'Stranger In Paradise', he was singing it.
A couple of years ago, on the radio, I caught the end of a rendition of 'Stranger In Paradise' by Sarah Brightman. I didn't know who she was at the time and had never heard her sing anything. Between her voice and the way she sings each line I find the song almost irie.

you're only the 2nd person I've ever known to know about Uncle Bonsai - a good friend of mine/coworker, in Cape Cod, had me listen to a bunch of cassette tapes a few years ago, and Uncle Bonsai a few of them. The ones with Chubby Want a Sundae and Boys Want Sex in the Morning (the two song titles that stuck to my head.)
She liked this other band, that I can't recall the name of, just two guys, sorta folksy/bluesy and one of the cassette cover had them near a garage with motorcycles or something. She was the only person I'd known to have read and really liked the book Geek Love - I waited years of my life to find someone I knew who had read it so we could talk about it.
Just a little ramble, brought on by your Uncle Bonsai mention - :o
I pretty much like all music, but some of my favorite songs are:
U2 - Red Hill Mining Town
Til Tuesday - Coming up Close
Kate Bush - All We Ever Look For, Little Earth, And Dream of Sheep
Collective Soul - Needs
Lifehouse - Broken, Take Me Away
Taste Of Honey - Boogie Oogie Oogie
Hanson - Mmmbop
Thelma Houston - Don't Leave Me This Way
Michael Jackson - Someone in the Dark
Mindless Self Indulgence - Kill the Rock, Panty Shot
Georgie Fame and the Blue Flames - The Ballad of Bonnie and Clyde
Evergrey - Darkest Hour
When I looked at a few lists folks posted, I think most of you were the ones, like me, who had this happen... when I was a teenager and accidently left a homemade mixed cassette tape of songs in anyone's car, they'd know it was my cassette because of all of the different types of music on it. "You're the only one I know of who would make a tape with Frank Sinatra's New York New York followed by Somewhere over the Rainbow from the album soundtrack, with a fixed skip included, and then one of the shittiest songs Metallica ever did (fade to black :( ... I like that song), and then Donna Summers."

When I used to hang out at an Irish bar in Boston, I played the Wolf Tones " Streets of New York" reminded me of my Dad.

Having children myself, I was very touched by you sharing this, and though I don't know the circumstances or timing, want to say I'm sorry; I can't imagine a more difficult thing to go though as a parent.

I agree... 'Do you have garlic in your soul?' was not a question on the 'How evil are you?' thread... mmmm garlic women.
Garlic much like Bacon is life sustaining.
mmmmm.... garlic bacon... with cheese
I love garlic. My mom claims she used to follow the smell of garlic to find my house.

Nugent played twice at the speedway 5 miles from my parent's house. I didn't have to go. I could hear it fine from the house. ;D
Before Cheap Trick got big they played a lot of local gigs. They are from my home town obviously. My first job was skate guard at our ice rink. Cheap Trick put down rugs on the ice and set the stage up on the rugs. Every body skated around the stage listening to Cheap Trick live. Pretty sure that was '76. Good memories.

;D I suggested Nugent as a speaker for Liberty Forum. Maybe next year.
Be careful what you wish for... he is pretty much a zero tolerance anti-drug nazi asshole. That's right I've met him before. ;D
Pot smokers should be thrown in dungeons, but he runs around leaving children he has fathered in his wake.
He said he didn't know that "Journey to the Center of the Mind", his hit as the Amboy Dukes, was about drug useage. He didn't seem to have any problem accepting money from all those awful drug users in his audience.
Ted Nugent, as in the band, was much more than his smoking guitar playing, in fact without the vocals of Derek St. Holmes they wouldn't have been much to listen to. Most people thought that was Ted's voice, and he treated him rather poorly.

They ask me how I feel
And if my love is real
And how I know I'll make it through.
And they, they look at me and frown,
They'd like to drive me from this town,
They don't want me around
'Cause I believe in you.
They show me to the door,
They say don't come back no more
'Cause I don't be like they'd like me to,
And I walk out on my own
A thousand miles from home
But I don't feel alone
'Cause I believe in you.
I believe in you even through the tears and the laughter,
I believe in you even though we be apart.
I believe in you even on the morning after.
Oh, when the dawn is nearing
Oh, when the night is disappearing
Oh, this feeling is still here in my heart.
Don't let me drift too far,
Keep me where you are
Where I will always be renewed.
And that which you've given me today
Is worth more than I could pay
And no matter what they say
I believe in you.
I believe in you when winter turn to summer,
I believe in you when white turn to black,
I believe in you even though I be outnumbered.
Oh, though the earth may shake me
Oh, though my friends forsake me
Oh, even that couldn't make me go back.
Don't let me change my heart,
Keep me set apart
From all the plans they do pursue.
And I, I don't mind the pain
Don't mind the driving rain
I know I will sustain
'Cause I believe in you.

Good one. I never saw a video from their pre-MTv days.
Can't find a video of it but Robert Cray's 1040 Blues.
Here's the lyrics:
Worried, you betcha ya'
Discouraged I don't know
Every time I see a 1040
Out of my pocket it goes
Ow!
I hate taxes
I work hard for my money
Every April you take it all away
Don't you know I work hard for my money every day, people
You take it all away from me
Ow!
Owwww!
I hate taxes
Taxes gonna break my back I swear
Don't you know I pay a lot more than my share?
I hate taxes
SOLO
(Same as above)
Can't have any fun anymore
Gotta make plans for everything now
Gotta plan for every thing I do, people
Can't go out and have a real good time
Now I've gotta worry about everything
That my little money can buy
Ohhhh!
OWWWWW!
I hate taxes
Taxes gonna break my back I swear
Don't you know I paid a lot more than my share
You know I've thinkin' about movin' somewhere else
But I can't because I love america too much
Especially California
Yeah
I guess I'm gonna have to pay these taxes
If I'm gonna live here
Ohhh!

This is weird... I just watched this movie, for the first time in I don't know how many years. Afterwards, I checked the blog of Wil Wheaton (http://wilwheaton.typepad.com/), who was the star of the movie. I think I've looked at it once before, and not recently. His post from yesterday happened to be about this movie he made over 20 years ago. Here's the end of the post:
QuoteI've always said that Stand By Me was so successful because Rob cast four young actors who were so much like their characters, but I think it's spooky how the four of us ended up being so much like our characters: River died too young, Corey struggled like crazy to get his personal demons under control, Jerry found success and happiness, and I'm a writer.

I feel so extraordinary
Something's got a hold on me
I get this feeling I'm in motion
A sudden sense of liberty
I don't care 'cause I'll soon be there
And I don't care if I'm here tomorrow
Again and again they've taken too much
Of the things that cost me too much
I used to think that the day would never come
I'd see delight in the dawning New Hampshire sun
My greater freedom's the drug that brings me near
(Although my friends and family all think I'm queer)
I used to think that the day would never come
That my life would depend on New Hampshire sun...
When I was a very small girl,
Californians talked to me
Now that we've grown up together
They're afraid of what they see
That's the price that we all pay
Their use of free will comes to nothing
I can't tell you where they're going
I guess there's just no way of knowing
I used to think that the day would never come
When I could drive to the market with my gun
My greater freedom's the drug that brings me near
(I really hope that I never hit a deer)
I used to think that the day would never come
That I could drive to the market with my gun...
I feel so extraordinary
Something's got a hold on me
I get this feeling I'm in motion
A sudden sense of liberty
The chances are we've gone too far
We're giving it all our time and money
In New Hampshire we'll make our stand
Against a government so demanding
I used to think that the day would never come
When I'd think shovelling snow might actually be fun
My greater freedom's the drug that brings me near
(That, and the thought of all that microbrewed beer)
I used to think that the day would never come
That I'd be shovelling snow as a form of fun...

Another Coast to Coast listener? I find such humor listening to them. Good music too (I've loved that song since a friend played it in a talent show in high school). Too bad the crazy conspiracy theories and music have decreased in quality since Art Bell left. Some of the songs are difficult to find like the one that goes a "a boom boom boom".
Llllloyd, if you're on a Bruddah Iz kick, you'll love this one:
Bruddah Iz ~ White Sandy Beach (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k_YfyKahP-0#)
"Shark!" ;D
He was a true maestro on the ukulele, with jazz chording, alternative tunings, and arpeggios. He was also a funny mudder fudder. He was also the face of the Hawaiian independence movement. He didn't hate the haoles, he just thought Hawaiians should be able to govern themselves (what a radical concept!)

Miles From Nowhere - Cat Stevens
Miles from nowhere
I guess I'll take my time
Oh yeah, to reach there
Look up at the mountain
I have to climb
Oh yeah, to reach there.
Lord my body has been a good friend
But I won't need it when I reach the end
Miles from nowhere
Guess I'll take my time
Oh yeah, to reach there
I creep through the valleys
And I grope through the woods
'cause I know when I find it my honey
It's gonna make me feel good
I love everything
So don't it make you feel sad
'cause I'll drink to you, my baby
I'll think to that, I'll think to that.
Miles from nowhere
Not a soul in sight
Oh yeah, but it's alright
I have my freedom
I can make my own rules
Oh yeah, the ones that I choose
Lord my body has been a good friend
But I won't need it when I reach the end
Miles from nowhere
I Guess I'll take my time
Oh yeah, to reach there.

Ballard Of Accounting - Karan Casey
In the morning we built the city
In the afternoon walked through its streets
Evening saw us leaving
We wandered through our days as if they would never end
All of us imagined we had endless time to spend
We hardly saw the crossroads and small attention gave
To landmarks on the journey from the cradle to the grave,
cradle to the grave, cradle to the grave
Did you learn to dream in the morning?
Abandon dreams in the afternoon?
Wait without hope in the evening?
Did you stand there in the traces and let 'em feed you lies?
Did you trail along behind them wearing blinkers on your eyes?
Did you kiss the foot that kicked you, did you thank them for
their scorn?
Did you ask for their forgiveness for the act of being born,
act of being born, act of being born?
Did you alter the face of the city?
Make any change in the world you found?
Or did you observe all the warnings?
Did you read the trespass notices, did you keep off the grass?
Did you shuffle up the pavements just to let your betters pass?
Did you learn to keep your mouth shut, were you seen but never heard?
Did you learn to be obedient and jump to at a word,
jump to at a word, jump to at a word?
Did you demand any answers?
The who and the what and the reason why?
Did you ever question the setup?
Did you stand aside and let 'em choose while you took second best?
Did you let 'em skim the cream off and give to you the rest?
Did you settle for the shoddy and did you think it right
To let 'em rob you right and left and never make a fight,
never make a fight, never make a fight?
What did you learn in the morning?
How much did you know in the afternoon?
Were you content in the evening?
Did they teach you how to question when you were at the school?
Did the factory help you, were you the maker or the tool?
Did the place where you were living enrich your life and then
Did you reach some understanding of all your fellow men,
all your fellow men, all your fellow men?

Jethro Tull- Man of Principle
One day he'll walk from out of this place.
You'll see a quiet determination on his face.
He'll toe no lines. Suffer no fools.
But he'll raise three cheers to the losing team
from the other school.
A little dedication. A little pair of daddy's shoes to fill.
Compleat education. One day he'll be a man of principle.
And the battle's on. And he'll play to win.
Feel the blue blood rushing quick beneath his skin.
And grim they stand. And hard they fall.
Harder still, when their backs are up against the wall.
Gonna get your attention. But he's carrying his cross to the other hill.
With divine intervention, he can be a man of principle.
In the evening light, with a fair-ground girl--
he stops himself as his head begins to whirl.
And he walks her home. And there's a kiss goodbye.
She feels a chill as she looks him in the eye.
Well, there's a time and a place now
and it's not tonight she'll bend his will.
Slow realization--she's looking at a man of principle.
Hung from the highest station by his old school tie--
undressed to kill
He could be a real sensation. But he's a man of principle
A little dedication. A little pair of daddy's shoes to fill.
Compleat education. One day he'll be a man of principle.
Gonna get your attention. But he's carrying his cross to the other hill.
With divine intervention, he can be a man of principle.

Music Must Change ? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CraNirtmI50#)
Deep in the back of my mind is an unrealized sound
Every feeling I get from the street says it soon could be found
When I hear the cold lies of the pusher, I know it exists
It's confirmed in the eyes of the kids, emphasized with their fists
But the high has to rise from the low
Like volcanoes explode through the snow
The mosquito's sting brings a dream
But the poisons derange
The music must change
For we're chewing a bone
We soared like the sparrow hawk flied
Then we dropped like a stone
Like the tide and the waves
Growing slowly in range
Crushing mountains as old as the Earth
So the music must change
Sometimes at night, I wake up and my body's like ice
The sound of the running wild stallion, the noise of the mice
And I wondered if then I could hear into all of your dreams
I realize now it was really the sound of your screams
But death always leads into life
But the street fighter swallows the knife
Am I so crazy to feel that it's here prearranged?
The music must change
It's gets higher and higher
Smouldering like leaves in the sun
Then it bursts into fire
Its rhythm grows strong
It's so new and so strange
Like bells in the clouds, then again
The music must change
But is this song so different?
Am I doing it all again?
It may have been done before
But then music's an open door
Deep in the back of my is an unrealized sound
Every feeling I get from the street says it soon could be found
When I hear the cold lies of the pusher, I know it exists
It's confirmed in the eyes of the kids, emphasized with their fists
But the high has to rise from the low
Like volcanoes explode through the snow
The mosquito's sting brings a dream
But the poison's derange
The music must change
For we're chewing a bone
We soared like the sparrow hawk flied
Then we dropped like a stone
Like the tide and the waves
Growing slowly in range
Crushing mountains as old as the Earth
So the music must change

" Seven days, seven more days she'll be comin'
I'll be waiting at the station for her to arrive
Seven more days, all I gotta do is survive.
She been gone ever since I been a child
Ever since I seen her smile, I ain't forgotten her eyes.
She had a face that could outshine the sun in the skies.
I been good, I been good while I been waitin'
Maybe guilty of hesitatin', I just been holdin' on
Seven more days, all that'll be gone.
There's kissing in the valley,
Thieving in the alley,
Fighting every inch of the way.
Trying to be tender
With somebody I remember
In a night that's always brighter'n the day.
Seven days, seven more days that are connected
Just like I expected, she'll be comin' on forth,
My beautiful comrade from the north.
There's kissing in the valley,
Thieving in the alley,
Fighting every inch of the way.
Trying to be tender
With somebody I remember
In a night that's always brighter'n the day."

I guess I'm traveling, my last mile
Don't feel like, I've got a place to go
Just been here thinkin', if I got somethin' in this life to show
Chorus-
But I go through life the best way
And when people ask me how I know
I just tell them my Jesus, told me so
I just tell them my Jesus, told me so
You hear a lot of stories
About the life you're supposed to live
All the sins you've done
The good Lord will forgive
Chorus
Maybe I'm wrong
Nobody knows for sure
But I live my life the old gospel way
Well I guess, I'll soon be dying
Just like a river, somewhere it stops to flow
But I know I'm right about life
And when people ask me how I know
I just tell them my Jesus, told me so
I just tell them my Jesus, told me so
I just tell them my Jesus, told me so
He's the only one who really knows
I just tell them my Jesus, told me so
He's the only one who really knows
I just tell them my Jesus, told me so
I'm gonna look 'em in the eye
And tell 'em Lord my Jesus told me so

Robin Trower (Bridge of Sighs - 01) Day Of The Eagle
"i saw a light, just up ahead
But I couldn't seem to rise up from my bed
I'm not alone, than I am
People seem to think I'm superman
But I watch for the love
I'm living in the day of the eagle, the eagle not the, dove
It's like a weight, that brings me down
If I don't move, I'm on the ground
It's in my mind, Its in my soul
It's telling me the things I can't be told
It's a watch for the love
Living in the day of the eagle, eagle not the, dove
Another day, another night
I want to love, they want to fight
I need the time, I got to be alone
I got to meet a lover on my own
I watch for the love
Living in the day of the eagle, eagle not the, dove"

We got to see Robin Trower in a small club in Baltimore... I was 6 feet from him listening to his monitor mix... it was great to soar with him on his solos. 8)
Hey Rainy, and all of My family, this is a great band from the 70s, 60? I love the kaos of the music and the love of the song!

I saw him at The Rusty Nail in Sunderland, Mass, near UMass Amherst, shortly before it burned down, probably in the late 1980s. The owner of the joint owed a friend of mine some money, so I got to get in for free, otherwise I wouldn't have paid the $7 cover. I didn't realize at that time that Trower had once been a "somebody". In that era, The Nail used to get has-been acts to play on Sunday evenings, when they otherwise couldn't arrange a booking. Trower was being featured as a guitar player, as had been many other Sunday acts, and I don't think he even sang.
