Title: demand for ike dollars?
Post by: Dave Ridley on March 21, 2007, 08:09 AM NHFT
Does anyone here have interest in Eisenhower dollars?  I'm talking about the copper/nickel ones not the silver commemoratives .  Like silver certificates, Ike dollars sell for slightly over their face value because of their marginal numismatic value and the fact they don't make them any more.  Lots of 10 to 100 seem to reliably sell for about $1.20 each on e-bay right now not counting shipping.   I don't own any currently but am thinking about buying a few; the more interest I sense among this bunch the more I would tend to buy.

I personally think all of the modern dollar coins are ugly and have worthless metal content.  I am a fan of the Peace Dollars and the modern US Silver Eagles.

dada have buyed 1000 for a slight discount and sold 200 so far at an acceptable markup.  It seems to have been worth doing, ugly or not.

One thing to ponder is that deflation is a possibility, or a run on the banks.  So these might be good for their face value in deflation, yet able to rise on inflation.

Anyway I'm selling them for $1.20 also which is slightly lower than last month's average sell prices on e-bay, much lower if you account for shipping.

Who here would accept Ikes as payment at the 1.20 valuation?  If not at that valuation, then at what valuation?
