We were able to meet Brian Severance's son Brian Jr. outside the hearing.
I guess our signs were an encouragement to Brian and a source of concern for the government workers.

Here is the letter we got from his mother today:

As someone who knows this family my question is this. Who the hell cares? He has been either committing illegal actions or been on the lame for the better part of 10 years. We shouldnt be wasting our time on this family as everything they touch is corrupted.

Even if the guy was a first-rate jerk, that does not absolve the government from due process

I the hell care.

As someone who knows this family, could you expound on their illegal actions for which they have been on the lam for the last ten years?  Please do not include hear say, conjecture or unfounded libel.

Also, if you would, tell me why any man should be left to sit in jail for seven months without being charged with a crime?
Or why whether your liking this man or his family should be taken into any kind of consideration?

Because...
By the "court's" reasoning...
You could be jailed indefinitely under the same exact reasoning...

Judge: "Chester, do you know where person xyz is?"
Chester: "No your honor."
Judge: "Chester, I don't believe you and I am holding you in comtempt of this court.  I'll keep you in jail until you tell me where xyz is!"
Chester: "But your honor, I really don't know where xyz is!"
Judge: "Well, there's this Lapointe dude on the NH Underground that says you aren't worth a shit so who the hell cares if we keep you locked up just because we can...hahaha!"

If you believe in punishing bad people, doesn't matter which laws they broke or if they were even guilty?
Since I don't even want to resist evil by force, there is nothing Brian Severance could do that would make me want to put him in jail.
Since the government will not tell us why they are holding Brian, why would you assume it is for valid reasons?

"A free society is one where it is safe to be unpopular."

To me this situation will show us if our society will accept unpopular people.

Should Ed Brown be hurt because he believes unusual things? .... even when he has not hurt anyone yet?

You would think that being away from your wife for so long, you would give the Lambs a break.

I agree everyone has rights. Hell Hitler and most of the nazis convicted at Nuramburg (spelling) did not recieve a fair trial nor given anything other then a kangroo court, BUT NOONE DEFENDS them because they were scum!!! This family isnt worth the time of effort and maybe Im biased in how I feel about this family of theives and negligent parents but like the nazis on trial, I dont care if their rights are marred. I know its unchristianly but the heck with them I hope he enjoys his stay.

Thanks for letting us know how you feel, Chet.

I hope your very worthy causes don't get tossed aside because of how someone feels about you personally.

I doubt that would happen, because most of the people here value principles above popularity.

WILLIAM ROPER: So now you'd give the Devil benefit of law.

SIR THOMAS MORE: Yes. What would you do? Cut a great road through the law to get after the Devil?

ROPER: I'd cut down every law in England to do that.

MORE: Oh? And when the law was down—and the Devil turned round on you—where would you hide? Yes, I'd give the Devil benefit of law, for my own safety's sake.

Marvelous quote. It reminded me where one should stand on an issue where an imminent threat directly conflicts with ideals of liberty and law.

The only thing this exchange doesn't address is this: what happens when the law, itself, is no longer a refuge for the peaceable person?

Yay, Brian is free!

Details, details...I'm detailless here.    :o
Did they just slide Brian out the mail slot and walk away like nothing happened?
Did Russell strike his cane against the curb and the courthouse parted and Brian walked free?
Did you and Kat smash your golden wrist bands togather and yell some amazing word and Brian was set free?

What...?  Hmm...?

What...?

hmm?

what?

As I understand it, he was exchanged for his wife and kid, who are now languishing in jail themselves.

Kat and I waved signs and talked to people outside the courthouse.  Then Brian emerged a free man.  He didn't say much about what happened in court.  He just thanked us for agitating for his release and left for home with his daughter.
