When you're feeling down, just remember the guy with the stupid username, and perhaps you won't feel as bad. :D
I've been contemplating this exact question. Someone on the 9/11 board has decided to hate me and smite me on every occasion.
After a week of joining someone has been smiting me on a daily basis. I think there is someone who does this to every single person he/she comes across and my feeling it is to mess with our heads.
Oh, someone does it to me all the time, and I've never figured out why. I just don't pay it much attention anymore.
+1 for all!
Karma to Quantrill for helping me proofread.
Hey, here's an idea.
For a while, we saw more detail here about people's karma rating right . . .
Wouldn't it be neat to see more detail about how people use their applaud and smite buttons? As in what percentage do folks applaud vs. how often they hit smite.
Might be interesting?
You'd have to write the code for it.
A couple who just got married opened one of their wedding gifts to discover a little box with a red button and little plastic dome on a hinge to protect the button from being accidentally pushed. It came with a note "If you push this button, someone you don't know will die and you will be paid $100,000." There was no indication of who it was from.
They pondered over the meaning for weeks. They pondered over whether to push the button for weeks. They weren't even sure if it was anything more than a joke. They finally decided, heck, it was no one they know. Maybe the person was SUPPOSED to die, like someone on death row. Why else would they have been given the button? So they pressed it.
The next day, a nicely-dressed be-speckled man showed up at their front door and asked if they had the box. They nodded and handed it to him. He handed them an envelope full of money and turned to go but they stopped him.
"What are going to do with the box?" asked the wife.
"We give it to someone else now."
"Who?" asked the husband.
"Someone you don't know."

Apparently, people love me today; after the continual daily smitings, my karma has shot up eight points today :dontknow:
Whenever one of you sensitive types complains I start giving away applauds.
The only thing I'd like to know is, which post was it that somebody dinged me for? Sure, knowing the applauds would be nice, too. I don't care to know who it was that upped or downed me, and I think that'd cause far more trouble than simply knowing which post it was.
Another enhancement would be a short explanation why, but, er, that's what the "reply" button is for. ;)

I was glancing at the FSP forum recently and noticed there's no karma. Of course it's just a number. Maybe one should just take pride in a really low number. It means you're a rebel!

Truth about karma is that we each create our own.
Stop worrying. Have fun. Be nice.
Treat others as you would like to be treated, . . .
Take a nice stretch, and breathe. Relax. And, breathe.
Breathe and relax. Forgive others. Forgive yourself.
Breathe and relax - and forgive. Be nice!
We all have good [in fact, excellent] karma - - - if we can find it.

Heck, I've seen anarchists attack themselves for being anarchists, because they're afraid of the word.
There was someone who posted a while back about how he thinks that anarchists are wrong and we need a government, but it should be totally voluntary. Well, then it's anarchy, not government, isn't it?

I doubt that we "need" government. I would say that I have no moral problems with a voluntary government that has no special authority. And I agree. That probably qualifies under anarchy; not government. I've actually made suggestions for an organization like that for people who feel a burning need for government.

There's this notion about a certain word having power versus another word that means the same thing. Blah, blah, blah. Whatever. :)

What non-voting issue? I think the whole karmic thing is childish. I mean if you can't express your opinions to people who are supposed to be your allies without fear of retribution....geesh. Smiting is symbolic violence. (not sound like a liberal or that I give sh** about it, but, still...it seems juvenile to me to even have it there) And the fact that people who never posted one thing or never converse with you can smite to me is like talking behind someone's back. I normally applaud when someone makes a good point, and rarely have I smote anyone. But since someone is bound and determined to smite people for disagreeing with them, then I am going to applaud everyone to help balance it out.
I'm now headed to the members list to hand out karma to EVERYONE...

You'll find out at PorcFest :)

I've seen him put away quite a few without any visible signs of intoxication.

LOL! That kick-started my day.
Quantrill, did you realize how large the members list was before you promised to applaud every member? :o ;D
Well somebody didn't like something I said. They've been smiting the hell out of me the last couple of days. And I have no idea what it was.

There is someone who does not post and just smites people for sport, so it has nothing to do with anything you said believe me.
Frankly, smiting and ignoring are rather judgemental and childish and i don't partake of either.
That's what pisses me off, people who don't want to engage in reasonable discussion.

I've been smote twice! Oh the humanity!
Is it because of my posts or because I haven't been posting as much as I used to...
I've dropped 64 points in the past week :o

It means very little, Brad. It's gotta be someone with a Napoleon complex... I am sure they come up short in many ways... LOL
I get smote all the time, I expect it for my attitude and bluntness.

I just try to stay above zero, then I'm happy. More than I managed at FTL at least.. I don't think I lasted for ten posts before I gave that up

I'm naughty sometimes. >:D
Funny, I've noticed when I say something about immigration, first my karma goes up up up, and then it goes down down down back to where it was.
But I haven't said anything lately about immigration and it's going up. Odd... :book1:

That seems to be the trend with karma sometimes. You can only add karma once an hour and people tend to hold grudges and remember when you said something that annoyed them or even pissed them off a lot better than when you said something moving or whitty or motivational. You're probably getting lots of karma from various people who read your post and liked what you said followed by repeated karma hits over time from just a few people who disagreed with you. It's unfortunate.
I very rarely smite/applaud except when someone is complaining about being smited, I tend to smite those folks :-) And folks who respond by saying that they ignore karma points or that karma is irrelevent I applaud those. Don't ask me why, it's just a habbit of mine.

Now that I know that I ignore karma points and they are irrelevant! That counts for 2 right even though I don't care. 8)

At least this is a comment I can respect.
But someone smiting without debating any of my posts (or even messaging me privately) pretty much qualifies them as a douchebag. So fuck off... (and I mean that in the most positive manner)

QuoteI ignore the karma game...
I try to, but I really want to be reincarnated as something cool, so this karma thing is kind of important. I don't want to come back as a socialist rodent of some kind :'(
I'd be willing to bet most got smote just because someone doesn't like your opinion on a matter.
Karma for all. 8)

Well, that's pretty obvious. I somehow drop dramatically whenever I'm honest about Christianity and religion in general. Strange coincidence. :P
I spent 5 hours running around Manchester trying to help keep an eye on our Federale masters, protecting our fellow Porcs in a rather Dadaist ( ;D ) fashion and come back to dinged karma? Would someone like to tell me why I upset them?
Hmmm . . . I think I'm finally ready to ignore the karma game, it really serves no purpose. Any chance we could just forgo it altogether like NHTeaParty and the FTL BBS has?
forgo karma? That would be a tragedy. Mostly because of all the drama it creates. I honestly don't pay attention to my own, (-2) but find it comical that others do.

I wonder how low in the negatives one can go?
I would just like to know, who and why I keep getting smited.
