Ron Paul, on the House floor, calls for civil disobedience, claiming that it is the mark of a true patriot to disagree with the state.
"it is dissent from government policies that defines the true patriot and champion of liberty"
"Faith in government coercion and a lack of understanding of how free societies operate encourages big government liberals and big government conservatives to manufacture a war psychology to demand political loyalty for domestic policy, just as is required in foreign affairs."

WOW....I am only 1/2 way thru the video... but WOW
You know, it's amazing that these things are being said regularly on the floor of the House, but it's ignored by the legislators and unheard by the people.
Just listen to the next five minutes of the next hot monger at that the podium that night, and you'll understand all we are up against.

It was an empty chamber and people saw it on the super popular CSPAN channel.

Very true.. however thru the magic of Al Gore's internet... it will be YouTubed around the globe and then will be blogged about... and maybe stir some people up.
I sent it to three of my 'liberal' antiwar friends... maybe they won't vote for a DEM maybe just maybe they might consider becoming a Ronpaulican.*

Wait a minute Kat-- let me get this straight -- you watched a politician speak and liked it! Now I just have to know -- Did Russell watch it too? Now, your gonna tell me he liked it too!
I will admit this is the first time any "mainstream" politician has made any sense....since maybe Thomas Jefferson and even he probably wasn't as "mainstream" as Dr. NO.
I've liked Ron Paul for a long time, despite his being a politician. I publish his articles frequently.

And she has an RP bumper sticket that welcomed me back to NH back in Sept 05 :)
Here are the civil dis quotes from the first ten minutes of the clip. These may come in handy.
"Resistance need not be violent, but the civil disobedience that might be required involves confrontation with the State and invites possible imprisonment."
- Ron Paul
"(Patriotism) means to sin against against a government's abuse of the peoples' rights."
- Ron Paul
Does anyone have any ideas how civil dis might be timed or designed to assist Ron Paul?
Ron Paul's key issues are:
Iraq war
IRS
Federal Reserve
Sovereignty
Real ID
Seems like the Iraq war would be a good one to plan civil disobedience around in conjunction with some NH visit. Is he going to be in NH June 5th?
how does one most effectively disobey the iraq war inside new hampshire?
not pay .... and let everyone know about it?
:)
Could do something like what those antiwar protesters did in Manchester @ Sununu's office. but with a twist...
Carol Shea Porters or Hodes' office. I mean after all they broke their promise... they said they didn't like the war but they keep voting to fund it.
It would protest the war and show them a pickle of a time trying to get you out.
I totally agree.
tell them Ron Paul sent you. :)
I was just thinking of something symbolic to flood them with for the 600,000+ Iraqi's killed.
But that's even $6000 in pennies. Numbers don't have to be too large before you start loosing perspective on them. Yikes.
Then I started thinking about what's cheaper than pennies? The first idea I had was scary:
Match heads.
But it makes some sense. Every death over there brings us more danger over here. 600,000 match-heads would most CERTAINLY be too dangerous. Match heads considered too dangerous, when we've killed that many family members...
I have a picture in my head of the congress audiance doing paperwork, talking, getting up and leaving, essentially doing everything except listening to Paul. ::)

Yes, they do that. But the whole speech is on the record, and people in the far future will hopefully be able to find it.
Tech. is a double edged sword, but it is far more useful for the free(er) market then for the gov't. People wonder how germany allowed itself to be so corrupted, they will not wonder about the usa, because we have it all on tape. ;D
small matches are worth roughly 1/4 of a cent each at wal mart retail prices but i'm not clear on what you want to do with them

I think Ron Paul is somewhat less Freedom-friendly than the top 5 NHLA-rated Reps of 2006.
I agree with Marple, Wheeler, Ingbretson, etc, on more issues than I do with Ron Paul.
I just want to point out that Ron Paul has a lot of well-deserved publicity, but isn't the only liberty lover in American politics -- the best of the best are right here in NH.
Some of the best of the best were ousted in 2006 :'(

I'm fearful to even think it through Dada. The train of thought was to do one of those public showings of just what a large number is. Like the kid that collected a million donated paperclips or something. But 600,000 pennies alone is too expensive. Which for some reason led me to think of cheaper stuff: matchheads. 2.5cents per book of 20 or something IIRC.
But it's a scary thought, dumping a truck full of match heads into a street. But wouldn't that demonstrate how very dangerous it is that US (I almost said
our) foreign policy, having killed 600,000 Iraqi civilians, is MUCH MORE dangerous than a pile of matchheads.
My fear in plain English: I expect anyone pulling this off to be brought up on terrorism charges.
This should be done...
And I think matches are a good idea...
Match "heads" are not...
If matches are to be used then they should be kept in their original "books" but "broke out" of their case and carton packaging...
You wouldn't want to use just the "heads" because that is what the idiot pipe bomb makers sometimes use...but the books would be ok(in my honest, humble opinion)...
Staging a palate full of matchbooks shouldn't be difficult. Anyone for brainstorming what theatrics to bracket the event?
Read off a timeline of American bombings and the number of dead while tossing matchbooks into a pile?
They'll slide around alot, but it would still be impressively tall:
600,000 / 20 = 30,000
30000 matchbooks * $0.04 = $1,200
To put it in perspective, we would be investing 1/5th of a penny per "collaterally damaged" Iraqi.
A sign explaining this, plus a sign with how much the per capita tax-dollars spent for the same death toll.
I'm wiling to let others tie the event into Ron Paul if we would like to make the statement seperately. It can be tied together later, at will, or even timed with the Ron Paul campaign. I'm willing to seperate the two because I feel the message is more important than a campaign. All modern wars are just as catastrophic.
I'm not sure you'd have to pay that much for the matches in quantity. Have you already got a supplier lined up? Just curious...
I think rocketman looked into bulk-rate matchbooks for the MPP.
I got my estimate from a How Its Made episode on Discovery, certainly the bulkiest of bulk rates.
Just emailed a strange request to marylandmatch.com.
Told them it was for a war demonstration, not to ignite. Had to post a lot of questions in a tiny text area:
Is it possible to get them without matchbook covers, what would the price of just matchsticks cost unboxed? What do you think would be our most economical approach?
Of course, I had to give my name, address, phone, and email. So if I'm unlucky I'll be posting here about the guys in suits who came to visit me. :)
I wonder if we could find one or more people who collected matches in the past that are now wanting to get rid of them? Of course shipping might be more expensive than just buying new ones...
i don't think this demonstration is simple enough to explain
It also needs to be more innoccuous physically. that many matches are theoretically dangerous.
Bozo, at least, was vaguely entertaining. Stephen King's clown is probably closer to it.

I just saw the Ron Paul video this evening. WOW, that video ROCKS! That man understands liberty better than anyone in Washington. What an ally we have there.
Doesn't say much for two reasons one DC people are really EVIL and Ron Paul is completely contradictory to his alleged philosophy of freedom on many issues he just throw them out the window when it suits him. Like saying slavery is bad hence we should have no more than one slave each.

Where are you coming from? I am so non-political, and I really like the guy. He may not make it in DC, but that's not the reason why people exercise their right to vote, is it? They have a choice, and he's a pretty good one...Better get a checkup form the neck up.
He's comparing a constitutional republic to a statist government by saying it's the equivalent of slavery, but only being allowed one slave per person. Say what you want about that, personally I think Ron Paul is the only chance the USA has.

We are talking about murdered lives, and your saying a demonstration involving a pile of matches is 'too dangerous'. That was my point, and Ron Paul's.
BTW: I specifically asked if we could get 'headless' matches. But the cameramen don't need to know that.
