The 2nd Annual Live Free or Die Festival will be held Aug. 25 in the town of Jaffrey (south of Peterborough) from 12-4.
Here are a few of this year's speakers:
Dr. Katherine Albrecht will talk about Spychips/RFID,
Rep. Joel Winters will talk about National Identification,
Matt Simon will talk about ending Marijuana Prohibition,
and many more!
Also (perhaps more fun), the band Poker Face will be playing.
The event lasts from 12-4, after which a lot of people will be hanging out and eventually camping on Jean "Mike" Coutu's property. He says all are welcome (tons of space), but that he'd appreciate a heads-up if you want to camp. Winnebagos no problem, he says.
Questions? Call Jean "Mike" Coutu at 532-6711.
great to see this event has persevered after the financial loss last year
It was more than a financial mess last year
And this year promises to be quite different. :)
I hope they've got it set up so the racists don't crash and try to claim it as their own event.

Last year there was a lot of anti immigration stuff. The upside was Jim & Lauren brought their Cool bikes!
Is this the celebration with the big fireworks?
No.
No cool bike this year. That Jaffery thing is on a one year suspension and review after the severally ignorant racist taint last year.
The Fed was kind interesting to talk to though, like talking to Dan Aykroyd playing Joe Friday dressed as the Easy Rider Guy.
To combat the racists, I would love to see an african or hispanic american preacher speak at the festival. Preferably someone who was involved in the civil rights movement. Someone who understands what it is to be on the wrong side of the 'law'.
I have been assured and reassured that this year's event will not have problems like last year's event.
The issues being covered this year do not include immigration, which was a recipe for disaster last year. The flyer I received from Jean Coutu lists this year's issues as follows:
Marijuana Policy Reform (three speakers including me)
Mt. Monadnock Zone Preservation
Spychips/RFID (Dr. Katherine Albrecht)
NH State Motto History and Preservation
National and Real Identification (Rep. Joel Winters)
False Flag Terrorism (no clue about this one)
A strong showing at this event will demonstrate that these issues are important to citizens. Please attend if you can, and help spread the word!
I am scheduled to appear on "Against the Grain" with Gardner Goldsmith at 1:20 tomorrow to promote the Live Free or Die Festival. His first show back on the air!
I consider this both an honor and a privilege. Man, I am so glad he is doing radio again!
Rocketman... is there a schedule of when people are talking?
Is there a central place to park?
A spot for vendors?
I won't be there until about 1 - 1:30pmish.
I have no idea about the speaker schedule.
I'm afraid you may have to call the very talkative Jean "Mike" Coutu at 532-6711 for those details.
Vendor space is/was available, but there's a form to fill out to satisfy the town of Jaffrey. I didn't fill out the form he sent me, simply because we aren't actually selling anything, but maybe I should have checked on that. NH Common Sense will just be dishing out matchbooks and brochures, along with collecting petition sigs and email addys.
Glad to hear you are planning to attend!
There's parking on the street in Jaffrey. It wasn't terribly convenient, but not horrible either.

There was someone at the ice cream social last night asking about my Ron Paul shirt. He missed you guys at porcfest and I explained that you were hiding on the balcony. :)
I plan to attend this event.
Dreepa: talked to Jean Coutu this morning and he was jazzed to hear there'd be somebody there selling Ron Paul stuff. You may still want to call him -- not sure if you'll have to fill out a vendor permit.
He's short on tables, so if anybody can bring a folding table or three, that would probably be a big help.

I hate paperwork but I may do it.
I do have a folding table.
Heh, the libertarian thing to do would be just to show up. I don't think anybody will give you any grief.

that is what I was thinking...... esp since I will be 'late'. on the other hand it is nice to give the guy a head's up.
Also the new Dreepa Farm tshirt will be unveiled.
And I have plenty of 'New Hampshire
Live Free of Die' shirts.. (green with cream letters)... portion of the proceeds goes to NHLA 2008 election fund. I think that those will be nice at this event eh?

Yes, indeed. I suggest emailing Dick Olson (Coutu's co-conspirator) and giving them a heads-up. Coutu usually doesn't do email, but I'm sure he and Dick are checking it a lot in the run-up to this event.

I may or may not be able to go to this event... if there's anyone who is 95% or better likely to go, and who want so to pass out FTL flyers at the event, or who has a table and is willing to put a stack of FTL flyers thereon, please email me and I'll give you a bunch.
Thanks!

Jaffrey "Live Free or Die Celebration" Will Feature Marijuana Policy Speakers
Pembroke, NH (August 22) – The NH Coalition for Common Sense Marijuana Policy has announced that executive director Matt Simon will be a featured speaker at the 2nd annual Live Free or Die Celebration. There is no charge to attend this event, which will be held Saturday, August 25, from noon to 4 p.m. at the town center of Jaffrey, NH.
Simon will be speaking about his organization's "Send the Right Message!" campaign, an effort to educate voters by raising drug and marijuana issues with presidential candidates. The campaign's website, SendTheRightMessage.com, features articles and videos based on encounters with candidates including Mitt Romney, John McCain, Bill Richardson, and Ron Paul.
Simon will also be speaking about NH Common Sense's plans to support a marijuana decriminalization measure in the next legislative session. The bill, which would reduce penalties for possession of marijuana in small quantities, is expected to resemble laws which are already in effect in several states including Maine.
The pro-freedom rock band Poker Face is scheduled to provide entertainment. Other speakers on the schedule include Jonathan Perri of Students for Sensible Drug Policy, Stuart Cooper of the NH Marijuana Policy Initiative, State Representative Joel Winters, and Spychips author Dr. Katherine Albrecht.

OK, this means I'll likely do Pembroke for you then.
I've been to Cheshire County 4 or 5 times already and so I felt I'd be either duplicating efforts and/or preaching to the choir at the LFOD...
So... does this mean that the event organizers are OK with a person (or several people) could just start handing out flyers, advertising... like, oh, say... Free Talk Live ?

I have a stack!
i'll probably be running around shooting edited-in-the-camera videos . if you kno of anything interesting and visual that might be good to shoot, lemme kno.
right now i'm planning to shoot
- story about the festival generally
- story about people's thoughts on the brown situation
- story about the ron paul activism there
- story about rep. tancredo's invasion hint
- story about the Keene litter pickup on sunday
The videos, whichever ones I shoot, won't need editing after I've shot them. if all goes as planned the Keene Free Minds guys will dump the stories to youtube and air some or all of them on FMTV.
can someone bring white or yellow masking tape....the wide kind? not sure it will be easy for me to find in the morning

I showed up about 2pm... was there til the end.
Saw at least
20 people that I knew.
Good crowd.
My son liked the band (Pokerface)
Handed out about 20 FTL flyers.
Gave away about 20 RP buttons and about 20 RP signs.
Thanks to everybody who came. From my perspective, the event was a total success.
Perhaps the best part was meeting so many NH people who are into freedom but aren't necessarily libertarians (yet). I was personally involved in more good conversations than I could count, and they lasted well into the night...
For me it was just an awesome experience personally, and NH Common Sense made a number of new, good friends as well. :)
It was great. I got there right at the start and stayed for the whole thing. I loved the anti-racism quote on the banner they stuck up on the stage to keep last year's nitwits away.
Who was the old man wandering around trying to get people to sign a petition for Arnold Schwarzenegger?
How many people attended, approximately? How were the speakers and entertainment? Any other pictures?

I am guessing 50 -75ish (when I was there)
Speakers that I remember:
Matt Simon (pot)
J Perry (pot)
ANother guy I know his name but forgot (pot)
911 guy
Poker Face played
Katherie A and Joel spoke but I didn't hear them I got there too late.
The official guess was that about 150 people were there over the course of the afternoon. They did a lot better than last year, and they're already optimistic about next year.
To anybody who missed the after-party, I'm sorry for you. It was kind of like a little PorcFest, except over half the attendees were not free staters. Poker Face also played at the party, along with Rich Angell and a very talented girl named Lauren.
I had a great, great, great time and met some truly remarkable people. :)

ya
I was talked to by Mike Coutu today. He says they had ~250 people all day and he is very pleased with how it went.
Hah! I didn't know Tom Lehrer by name, just by reputation.
I GoodSearched him and found this little jewel on Wikipedia:
"I'm not tempted to write a song about George W. Bush. I couldn't figure out what sort of song I would write. That's the problem: I don't want to satirise George Bush and his puppeteers, I want to vaporise them."
