Title: new civil disobedience project?
Post by: traveler on June 14, 2005, 09:31 AM NHFT
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What is next?Do we have another civ.dis. project. One that involves medical marijuana would get a lot of media attention and sympathy from older voters. Why do we not have the right to medicate ourselves? The STATE does NOT know what is best for us.After reading up on the FIJA website,I connect it to the fact that marijuana laws are unjust and cruel.I mean,do people know why marijuana was made illegal to begin with?Would they vote for it to be made illegal again,if given the chance? Most people that I know, would not.I am sure there are more than a few people out there that 'qualify 'for medical marijuana 'under the law'.Maybe we can find one who is willing to risk arrest.I cant see the cops arresting a terminally ill person for smoking a joint. But,then again.......
What would be a good way to challenge the laws themselves? They are a bit outdated.Think of the money saved, instead of wasting it on the DEA,who are ineffectual and corrupt. They have made a policy of seizing property and assets whenever they need more 'budget. Also, millions are wasted keeping non-violent 'offenders in prison.
Any thoughts?

Who is the lady that is disobeying the Supreme Court ruling?

It would be nice to find more than one....  1 in 10 NH residents admit to being pot smokers.  Those are the ones who admit it.

How can we protest this?? Simple!? We were talking about this yesterday.

We could publicly organize an event to have a medical marijuana patient smoke marijuana on a specific day on the steps of the State capital, or some other symbolic building.

This would preferably be done with an extreme example, such as someone in a wheelchair, crutches, or a terminal cancer patient.

If it worked correctly, the event could be the most successful anti-prohibition protest in many years!? ?:o

Do we know any terminal cancer patients or anyone else that may be willing to do this?

If you are going to encourage this to happen in California, where she is located, then the state capitol is not the best place.  California legalized medical marijuana, so her beef isn't with them.  It should be done on the steps of a DEA building or a justice department building.  It's the feds that are using the commerce clause to trample state sovereignty here, her state supports her right to use medical marijuana.  The DEA has an office in LA, and her website has a po box in Oakland, so if she wanted to do that, there's your best bet.

I'm talking about doing it here!  :)

From what I hear, if I remember correctly, a supermajority of adults in New Hampshire support medical marijuana.  Is this true?

I was thinking that she should smoke her joint in Arnolds cigar tent outside the capital building in Sacramento.....since it is technically legal in CA. :)

Medipot patients have done singular protests like you've suggested, to limited fanfare...  5 or more of them would be a much bigger deal.

Really?  I've never seen this done before that I can remember.

More than one person would be very nice to have for our next event.  :)

My next door neighbor would be a great candidate, if he'd already been of an activist mind. Sadly, two weeks ago he was given a very serious cancer diagnosis, with a prognosis of two weeks to live. He's passed that mark, but only because he was a championship triathlete in fantastic condition.

He's in liver failure, and the toxins are exuding from sores on his skin, making him itch like crazy. I'm sure some pot would help (and he might be puffing, if he has some; I know he has used it recreationally at times).

He's got other business to tend to in this short time, besides political activism. His family are gathered around, waiting for one of his naps to turn into a coma. The end will be relatively painless for him (hospice at home), but it still sucks.

Sorry, I didn't mean to go off on that bit of personal business. I just hate seeing my friend, whom I've seen in the driveway almost every day for 12 years, going out like this.  :(

If the "give beer to an underage vet" event isn't going to happen in Kentucky anytime soon (or even if it is), I'd heartily encourage somebody out there to give it a go.

The point of this exercise, and all our projects,I would think, would be to demonstrate that government interference in our lives is wrong and unconstitutional.Be it drug laws, licensing laws or prohibitions on travel. We need to show the 'citizens' just how much the gov. regulates our everyday lives .It seems, with the short media attention spans, that our project must be 'in your face' or else no one will pay attention.People should not think that we are breaking laws, just to break laws.We are doing it to say 'hey, look how silly this law is'.If I was very ill and the only way for me to have quality of life was to use a heavily regulated or illegal medicine,I would not let the law stop me from using that medication. The point being that I should not have to ask the government if it was okay with them that I have a life worth living, free from pain and misery. The State wants to harm me for doing something that harms no one and possibly extends my life.'Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness'.What the hell happened?

If it's illegal to sell alcohol to a minor, is it also illegal to sell the raw components of alcohol with instructions to a minor?

Picture a box full of malt, hops, yeast and some water labeled "Beer, some assembly required."

It shouldn't be. The components of beer for instance are readily available with no restrictions. Instructions for beer-making can be found on-line or in Libraries.

During Prohibition, Blue Ribbon malt could be found in grocery stores, with this label: "Warning: do not mix the contents of this can with x, y, z, which will make beer, which is illegal."

NH doesnt even allow medical marijuana. You should start there. But it just went to vote last year and failed.
