One of the criteria for a well-chosen act of civil disobedience is to have a clear situation where government is brazenly wrong and the individual is obviously right.? Most people like recycling and won't be impressed with the explanation.

I couldn't watch the preview (my system is too old/too slow), but I'm guessing that the P&T:BS! episode points out that most municiple recycling ordinances don't recycle diddly-squat. Despite onerous requirements for residents to clean, de-label, and sort all plastics and metals and glass, in many instances it all winds up in the same landfill.
Separation into "recycling" bins at the curb != recycling.

Rocketman, that's exactly why it will be a huge splash. It's GREAT iconoclasm. The more noise the pro-recycling crowd makes, the more attention the TRUTH will get.
I suggest you watch that episode, you WILL BE BLOWN AWAY. They destroy every recycling myth and claim.
Recycling is a bullshit government program, created by a bunch of scaremongers in order to justify its existance.
The message for the public would be: "What if almost everything you thought you knew about recycling was a lie?"

Well, "fools" is a little harsh. These are people who just don't question authority... I didn't question it until I saw that episode. They do it because they actually believe they are "helping", when in reality they are only wasting their time. :(

I never have, and I never will.
Currently the act of recycling polutes the air more then simply making it from scratch. Perhaps this wasn't true back when cans were made of pure alluminum, but it simply doesn't hold water anymore.
Recyling is more expensive then making it from scratch. The only reason these "recyling plants" are still in existance is because they're subsidized with our tax dollars.
People complain about then filling up the landfill. But the fact is, if garbage dumps weren't socialized by the local or county governments around here, and instead allowed a free market in land-fill production, their's be plenty of space. Now, perhaps after we have a free market in land-fills, we'll have market prices to determine exactly how much it does cost to throw things away vs. reusing them, but untill such time, we have no way of knowing. My bet, is that it's really not that big of a deal though.
That and the few times my wife put out cans for the recycling truck to pick up, they never did.
It's the law. But it's a stupid law. And everyone knows it. The vast majority of people simply don't comply with it around here.
It's nothing I'd stage a huge protest over though. If people want to recycle, let them. This is something, I think I'd rather follow Thorou's modle of Civil Disobedience, as opposed to Gandi's.

There are stories running in Concord right now because the cooperative of towns that incinerate at Penacook are looking at the Franklin landfill running out of space in 2014 (they dump ash there now) and looking at constructing a new landfill in Cantebury near the Merrimack river.
