You will get free excersize, meet new people, save money on gas, and do your small almost insignificant part to save the atmosphere (like 80% of air pollution is from coal/oil burning power plants). When you are driving, be sure to consolidate your errands as much as possible. I, for example, only drive my car once every 2-3 days on average, and I try to do as many tasks in one trip as possible.

You only will be cold for the first minute or so when riding a bike in winter conditions. At least this has been my experience.
It is actually too easy to sweat real bad even on a very short bike commute, especially when carrying a backpack.
I am more concerned about slipping on ice and having a bad fall then being cold.

I was wondering if someone would bring that up. They are in portland and seattle as well. Essentially they are mostly assholes, and most of the assholes are socialist (coincidence?). ;)
I rode my trike yesterday and today so that I wouldn't have to drive. I need to get fender brackets so that I can mount the fenders over the front wheels. I got a lot of road spray on my jacket today.
