I cannot control what others will do, I can only control what I do. Thus it is important that I lead by example. If others like what I am doing, then they will join in like efforts, or partner with me in my efforts. My focus here is not on theory, but on the practical, unglamorous part of ignoring gov't.
This will be an ongoing topic.
An unlicensed, house that doesn't meet zoning dictates, will be a juicy target for the gov't. That is true of any of the projects I write about. I ignore what gov't says, but I do not ignore what they do, or the fact that they exist.
In an absence of gov't, some of the important functions that they serve will have to be duplicated, or done without them. It is rather hypocritical to call the police for help, while refusing to pay. Not necessarily immoral, but hypocritical.
So methods of deterring crimes against you and your property, (the number one priority, with no police or effective courts, it is prudent to defensively protect yourself, much as you should defensively drive on the road), you should have a means to deal with violent individuals in an actual confrontation, (this is when most would actually call the police, not good), and a way to recover losses if big afterwards, if small, just swallow the losses.
It may be a good idea to be off the grid, if for no reason other than to frustrate the sell ability of the house if the nazis um, I mean the zoning enforcers or the tax thieves try to steal it. Location my be useful for the same reason. If I am not on the grid, it makes it that much harder for them to needlessly hurt me because they don't like what I am doing.
Ultimately my intention is to squat, or occupy my own house if the gov't tries to steal it. If anyone is curious I can go into detail later.
Water, in and out has to be dealt with. Particularly sewage. I don't want to poison someone else's' property, or sicken anyone (that would be rather hypocritical). A septic, or even a waste composting setup will be important.
Does anyone have other suggestions or points to make?
David, build an ugly concrete and stone bunker with a dome top into a hillside, with glass brick on south face.
Install a composting toilet, and a stone hearth. Load up on wood.... lots of it. Pump water by hand.
Forget about electricity. NH is too far north to make solar or photovoltaic panels worth the startup costs.
Stock up on ammo, food, water, medical supplies. Get a horse or bike. Grow your own food.
A minimalist lifestyle is doable. I think this scenario is in the works for all of us - like it or not.
Better to get a head start now. When the SHTF, you'll be well practiced. Oh, one more thing.
Uglier the better. They have no chance trying to sell it in case they grab it from you.

Actually whenever I build (or buy, depending on what works), I had planned a cinderblock blockhouse design. All the electrical connecion in the whole house would be wired through a large center column, for simplicity. and I had considered a simple wind mill connected to a simple grid based on 12 volt dc power. >:D

Love it! Hey, windmills and turbines are great!!! They'll even pump your water if you build the proper gearing ratios. Been there, done it.

The primitivism lifestyle is admirable, but not for me. I'm an ohio native, and I have seem many Amish folks in my life. Nice, but private people.
