Title: Not a USA citizen, but want to join the resistance?
Post by: David on April 29, 2008, 03:10 PM NHFT
This is specifically addressed to those that are from the other side of the imaginary line the USA gov't calls its border, and to those across the great big pond.
As much as I would welcome you, and proudly help you here, legally or not, for some it may not be possible to immigrate.  I am proudly an open borders supporter.   :)  Hundreds of thousands of people come here every year, mostly from the southern border.  Unfortunately xenophobia is sweeping the nation, and the gov't is making it difficult for my brothers and sisters to come here to live in peace.
But liberty is not a 'white american' concept.  And I want to see those of you who want it, and are willing to work for it, get it.
While this is the 'New Hampshire Underground', there is no reason those of you in Europe, or elsewhere, cannot copy to some degree what we do here.

The number one problem you will have, is numbers, the same problem we have here, but to a lesser degree.  You have to have support, no matter if you follow the political route, or the nonviolent apolitical route.  What I would specifically suggest, (I am writing this using the USA definitions of the words, so if you are uncertain of what I am suggesting, please ask.) is find peaceful, anti authoritarian groups to partner with.  Some of the conservative 'law and order' types will not support you if you engage in hidden disobediance, or open civil disobediance.  That is true in this country as well.
I would strongly avoid racist groups, and militaristic groups.  The racists, for all their talk of liberty and soverienty, are moral hypocrites, and the militaristic ones will do nothing more than scare people into the arms of gov't, giving gov't more power than they had before.  If your goal is to reduce the scope of gov't, then threatening it will be counter productive.  Besides, on a practical level, the nonviolent resisters will go to jail from time to time, but we live to resist another day.   :)
Try to congregate in one general area.  That will be more easier in the European Union than elsewhere, due to relatively lax borders.     You have every advantage to being in one small area.
Avoid a centralized structure.  This keeps disputes down, and it forces those that want things done to do it themselves.
Again, if you can come to the States, great.  But if you can't, don't allow the dream of living peacefully free to die in your homeland.   :)

There are a few people over on the FSP forum who would benefit from this post. I don't think they post here.

If you've no account there, I can repost it for you.

There were at least 3 on this forum that post or used to post, that were not USA citizens.  I actually wrote this in response to my desire to help Gu3st, because of the difficult decisions he (I assume he is a male) may have to make.
By all means feel free to repost it, but that is the Free State Project forum, and they may not like anyone suggesting that an easier route to freedom, may be to not come here.  Which for folks overseas, may be the case.   :'(  Please post a link to direct anyone interested to this topic if you do.   :)

Thanks.  It has got to suck being a homeschooler in Germany, or a freemarketeer in France, or a gun (or knife  ;)  ) rights advocate in England.  And 'my' damn gov't is acting like a schoolyard bully trying to keep good people out.   >:(

Thank you David for this encouragement. :)

About the difficult decision, considering that for the time being I can't really do anything drastic even if I knew right away what I should do I am focusing on growing my business first and will be spending some time researching voluntaryism and agorism more just to gain more overall insight into the philosophy and especially the strategies that can be used to live free in an unfree world.

But I estimate moving to NH would be prohibitively expensive or difficult, to a point of making a move to some offshore country actually more likely than that, but that's just speculation.

Anyway, I did search for anarcho-capitalists in Europe, as well as Croatia specifically (where I couldn't find any) and I came across an European Free State Project (http://www.europeanfreestate.net/) which is, unfortunately, almost dead. I say "almost" because there are some posts that popped up this year, but that's about it. You can tell they aren't very close to picking a free state to focus on. :P

However, one post (http://www.europeanfreestate.net/index.php?option=com_joomlaboard&Itemid=&func=view&catid=22&id=380#380) suggested Montenegro (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montenegro), a country which recently got independence from Serbia (this was before Kosovo got it too) and is therefore still in developing stages and moving towards more liberty than they had before, I assume. It is a small state with a forming free market which could, if led in the right direction, develop into a jewel of the adriatic (a title today usually attributed to Croatia). I also like the fact that it borders with my country and should be about hour and a half away by plane. :)

But to be entirely honest, even Montenegro is a long shot. In fact the whole of Europe is a long shot. I feel that the voluntaryist (and related) movements truly are strongest in the USA and it just doesn't seem like there is enough people with willpower across the Europe to begin matching what you guys in NH are doing.

That said, I could be wrong. So I will definitely try something.. I'll get in touch with people from the European Free State Project and perhaps we could get together to start a more vibrant Europe-focused liberty community online, for starters - just to try and get as many people with these views that happen to live in Europe onboard and see how many of us are there to begin with. Then once we're gathered up, I think we can start talking some real strategy.

Cheers
