Title: Funeral for the LP at Burning Porcupine
Post by: Russell Kanning on July 13, 2008, 11:44 AM NHFT
There will be a funeral held for the "Libertarian" Party ... I believe on the middle Sunday.

The casket will be coming up with one of the mourners ... Lauren.

Anyone have an appropriate sticker we could put on the coffin? It already has nice gold lettering for the "Constitution". Maybe we could add other dead items that were not able to secure our freedom.

Tackle and Ian were pallbearers in the LP's will, so I guess they are arranging the details.

Mark Twain wasn't really dead.

Yeah, it's bleeding out right now.  Should be dead by Sunday at 5pm.  We'll check the pulse before internment, but it may have to be buried alive.

5pm NHFT Sunday
The Cardinal of the Shire will preside. I don't pronounce them dead. I just help grieving friends and relatives.

I would suggest "See?  We tried to do this peaceably," but you may not care for that one . . .

How about "police"?

Maybe we should have a tax collector tar and feathering. That may be too violent for some though, even if it is retaliatory/defensive. One of the nice things about the funerals is that they are totally non-violent.

Hey .... I was just there for the grieving parties. I wasn't responsible for his demise.

You misunderstand.  For years, I've said that the only practical function of the Libertarian Party is to serve as evidence that . . . we tried to do this peaceably.  (I don't honestly see much hope for a peaceable achievement of liberty myself, though I'd cheerfully accept being proven wrong.)

Anyone who was at the funeral want to give me a sentence or two about the experience?  I'm writing an article for the paper.

Awesome article, Kat! Just a little correction - SEK3's book title is New Libertarian Manifesto. I know, I know, where was I when you needed a proofreader?

I think the time is right to hold a RadicaLibCon... I have the perfect place for it now and I'm thinking a camping weekend 13th-14th of September.

Anyone game for this?

Great.  You could hold it in Grafton :)

We already have another venue in mind in Barnstead, so, it doesn't hurt to spread the joy around, does it?

We have a similar layout, though not as big an open field, some indoor housing for the camping squeamish, outdoor toilets and showers. Some outdoor cooking facilities and campfire pits.

Here's my pitch (Draft #1):

If you're concerned about a takeover of your libertarian movement by conservatives, compromisers and just downright anti-libertarian campaigns, let's get this movement back on track.

RadicaLibCon is a weekend-long conference and celebration of freedom movement ideals.

Bring your ideas, your enthusiasm and your tent to Barnstead the weekend of 13-14 September to bring this movement of ours back to its core principles and to plan a New Libertarian action strategy!
