Title: Compiling a list
Post by: AnarchoJesse on November 17, 2008, 11:16 PM NHFT
I went out this evening open carrying my firearm in Keene. Some people asked questions, and one storekeeper even asked that I leave or otherwise stow the firearm.

When that happened, I decided that I would take it upon myself to personally poll each shop in downtown Keene and in general on their policies for those that carry firearms, and release a list of the firearm friendly businesses.

I'll actually compile the list starting now:

Firearms Permitted Policy

Vendetta
21
Timoleons
Lindys
Keene Gas
Ye Olde Goode Shop
Your Wireless Connection
Corner News
Turn It Up
Life Is Sweet
Amicis
Cool Jewels
Fresh Salad
Earths Treasures
The Stage
Armadillos

No Firearms Permitted Policy

Lab 'n Lager- No sign on door, but will ask that you stow it or to let them keep it behind the counter if they see it.

Regel Jewelry- Not permitted, and will not put up a sign that says so.

Peanuches- No sign on door, but when I brought that up with the bouncer, he said he'd talk with the owner. I was allowed to stay if I surrendered my magazine.

Other

UPS- Unsure
CC&H- Unsure
Miller Bros.- Unsure
Teds Sportswear- Unsure
Cash Force- No Formal Policy
Starving Artist- Undecided
Hannah Grimes- No formal policy, as it is cooperatively owned; I did get the feeling that they were very anti-gun though, by the tone of voice and treatment I got.

Good idea.
This one is obvious, but the Post Office doesn't allow self-protection.

they can't see guns or they might get the 'itch' themselves

Useful thread.  I've always liked Lindy's.

Only bad part about them is their slogan.  Something like, "Where the politicians meet the people"

Having politicians eat there is not something the should be proud of.  Ick.

Food is good and cheap and the staff is friendly.  Only place in Keene that serves breakfast all day.

Updated. I pretty much hit ever business on Main Street, but some told me to get back to them later, so hopefully I can have a more comprehensive list by this weekend.

I don't think it is so much a hangout for politicians as much as a stopping place for them when they are campaigning.  I think it started with Kennedy, maybe before.  When the 'American Candidate' show spent the day in Keene, we were doing tables for the FSP, NHLA and, I think the LP(there were 3 of us :P) at Railroad Square. I wandered around town trying to get my FSP shirt on camera.  There were 10 candidates each with a camera person, Mice person, release person, and manager.  It was a Saturday and when any of the groups went into Lindy's it got a little crowded ;D

Wal-Mart's chain-wide policy is "WalMart has no policy to restrict any person who is legally carrying a firearm." and this said in regard to open carry.

Concealed carry gets a "Thank you for contacting Wal-Mart regarding our concealed handgun policy. Wal-Mart was founded by Sam Walton on three basic principles. Strive for Excellence, Service to our Customers, and Respect for the Individual. It is that respect for the individual that led us to create the current policy pertaining to concealed handguns."

If Joe at the UPS store says no, let me know.  Puke, Wayne, and I are all customers there.
