300 posts on Raineys nightmares.

Oh yes, I'm happy! :D Thank you for asking. How are you?
I have a lot of frog figurines, toys, and whatnot I could place strategically around Burning Porc to make sure Rainey feels comfy :icon_pirat:
Frogs are one of my favorite animals, up there with pigs and dolphins.

Cops, unless naked.
I don't want to see any naked cops. :puke:
There has to be a cop out there somewhere you might want to see naked. Assuming that you have not capped off your naked person quota.

How could we have a party without the Social Butterfly? :D
Lloyd: OF COURSE I haven't capped off my naked person quota!
There're a lot of people running around naked for some reason.
I am so fucking there.
Also, we need to have the "100 Meter Cop Dash".

we don't have a list .... people who made the event happen last year are invited back ... you have to know someone to be invited. Each of us are responsible for those we invite.

So attendance in 2008 is the invite? I missed most of the major happenings last year since I showed up Monday-Thursday.
Just went to check BurningPorcupine.com and found "The domain burningporcupine.com has expired. If you owned this domain, please contact your domain registration service provider for further assistance. If you need help identifying your service provider, visit http://domainhelp.tucows.com. "
What's up with that?

Yes .... plus you could invite people ... but then if they start causing a brawl or drop cig butts on the grass (killing the frogs ;) ) , then we are going to wonder why you brought the losers to the party. :)
So I am inviting lots of people, who are my friends. I might have to take some of the responsibility for Dale and Ryan last year.

I think you need to blame whoever mixed my drinks so strong that one day. Come to think of it, I may have mixed those myself. OK, so just don't let me mix my own drinks. ;D
to do:
Don't let Dale self medicate...
Remind people to buy plenty of beer ahead of time at cheaper prices...
Dedicate one fridge to icemaking...
oh ... last year it was a pain picking up after everyone ... especially the non burnable things like recycling ... if you can bring containers to hold bottles, alum cans, or plastic that will help out ... partyers could also help with our dump runs on Sunday and Wednesday. The town of Grafton doesn't charge for our garbage if we will sort out the recycling stuff. The best rubbish is the kind that makes the bonfire bigger.
Actually for me even the Grafton Malls
Beer prices were pretty good.
But then I live in Tax hell.
So we keep Dales drink honest and
don't let him smoke unknown plants.
Though I thought he was freaking hysterical
but then I am not easily offended.
I liked the Dump run.
I volunteer for that.
Just call it "The Tour of the Grafton Dump" and only charge people 10 bucks... a feature! ;D

Jay and Lloyd found a good site for the pole barn/ pavilion. It will go near the brook and up the hill a little from the fire pit. When they get ready to do some work on it, I will warn you guys so that anyone that wants a physical workout to help Burning Porcupine can.

En route to my first PorcFest, I was befuddled by the appearance of a frog that apparently fell from the sky onto the windshield of my car. I couldn't concentrate with the little fellow staring at me through the glass; I had to pull over and put him in the grass. :noway:

The Burning Porcupine Decathlon will take place over the 7 days ... most events will take place at 10am before the group meal lunches.
Some events will be weather sensitive like the mt cardigan hike, slip-n-slide, and ultimate frisbee ... and may be shuffled.
Since "dodgeball" is reportedly banned from the government indoctrination centers we should give kids (old and young) a chance to play that here. I have a "dodgeball" in Grafton. Maybe we could also play a simple game of tag ...

That's like saying, "Now that they banned whipping slaves, let's all beat each other."
I only ever played that barbaric game under duress--never again!
So we need a rack for encouraging Sam to play dodgeball and Friday to play volleyball ;)
Dodge ball seems safer to me than volleyball. I've injured my wrist pretty badly hitting the volleyball wrong and then exacerbated it by continuing to play. Now I don't play it anymore. It may have been a combination of carpal tunnel and then hitting a volleyball wrong, but in any case, I'm very protective of my wrists and hands now, particularly now that <french accent>I am an arteeeest!</french accent>

I couldn't agree more! I don't know which childhood memory is more disturbing: the stark-raving terror of being inside the circle and having a hard ball hurtled at me (and as a kid with a birthday in October*
and a late bloomer, I was always one of the tiniest kids in my class) or the Pon Farr-ish bloodlust that would bubble up being outside the circle trying to nail some other poor brat. Never again.
*footnote - what I meant by that is that I was usually a year younger than the rest of my class. I understand they're really strict these days with the Sept. 1 (or whatever) cut-off date for sticking your kid in school, but either they didn't use to enforce that rule or my mother was so desperate to get me off her hands she talked the penguins into bending it.

I talked to Roto-Rooter about replacing my sewer line Monday or Tuesday which would make it possible to show up for Burning Porc on time. Today I got home from PFest and there was a big digger machine parked in my yard. That encourages my optimism!
Is it really a crop circle if the alien, Russell, didn't destroy any crops?

one call to homeland security should do the trick ... then you can beat the access codes out of one of our feds disguised as a keeniac
there is a large grill or rotiseree cooker waiting in canterbury ..... if someone wants to pick it up (i think it only needs an 8 foot bed) we can add that to our assets this year
Slip-n-slide in the pouring rain = FUN! ;D
Roto-Rooter finished my sewer line in one day and the yard doesn't even look that bad. They're coming back tomorrow to lay some grass seed. That's excellent news. It's means I can come up for the entire event! As with Porcfest, I will have to take some time to do work while I'm there.
There will be pancakes Thursday morning and possibly the next day if any batter is left. I will appreciate small contributions to cover cost; maybe a buck or two a person or something, but it's not required. I want everyone to enjoy them. The maple syrup is the biggest cost. =\ I know I will offend any number of people if I don't have maple syrup for a New England event.
These will be made from Ezekiel flour freshly milled by yours truly the night before from red wheat, spelt, barley, red kidney beans, great white northern beans, pinto beans, lentils, and millet.
excellent ... maybe if we keep resupplying you we can enjoy them the next day too :)
Kat is planning group meals at lunch each day .... Wednesday is chili .... thursday might be her homemade chicken noodle soup and bread
Actually I'm sure a lot of people will be bringing various donations of food & alcohol so I will just not worry about asking for donations. It will be my contribution to the fun.
Crap. I totally forgot about FTL Thursday night and I already missed one due to Porcfest so I want to make this one. I'll have to do the breakfast Friday morning but I'll get an early morning start out of Keene so it won't be too late.
And so the pancake drama begins again...

this year the fire pit is a lot wider, so your thing will have to stand on its own, sit on a pile of springs, or we have to find metal rods to put across the rocks.
i am looking forward to your creation. Last year's one is still sitting on the rocks. Maybe we could use both in the fire.

Menno and I are aiming to head out of Keene around 7am with pancake fixins so expect a latish pancake breakfast around 8:30 or 9am tomorrow (Friday). I have 2 pints of blueberries, but ... just realized I didn't buy more maple syrup. I'll get some before I head up.
Yay!
fruity pancakes from Dale ... who'd of thought?
sounds good
The slip n slide in the pouring rain today was WAY FUN!

myself and Jaime will most likely be up this afternoon/evening.
Yay!
Menno and I are running a little late because I slept through my alarm. I would make a big fuss about a pancake crisis but I'm only half awake as it is.
Crisis, crisis, blah, blah... snore.
;D
OK, almost out the door. It's basic like threat level yellow, as in instead of pancake breakfast it's like an early pancake brunch. Have a snack for now. :P Batter was all made up last night so I can start cooking as soon as my skillet warms up.
No one's up anyway.
i am updating the board with the pancake timetable
i am betting for noon
Pancake dinner?

Awesome photos Anton! :D I like the black and white.
my day went this way:
kickball
volleyball
piles of excellent pancakes between setting things up
sat around talking
burned brush til the moon came out
Jim and Lauren: amazing metalwork!
Anton: stunning photography!
But was there a guy with a CHICKEN on his SHOULDER in one of those photos? Did I see that right?
Yes, menno brought a rooster.
But, he didn't bring all of his chickens because he didn't want people to think he was weird.
i think we ate the other chickens
todays group dinner .... two different soups
Sunday .... monster taco salad
Anton Lee, what
astounding pix! I'd love hi-res copies if you don't mind sharing (even if they have your watermark on them).

Does this mean y'all are not coming up, Tom, or just that you're coming up later than omelette-time?

Monday- Pitchfork Throwing, Grafton County Frog Jumping Competition. Frog legs for dinner from among the losers.
Were you serious about this? Are you really having a jumping frog competition? And then serving frogs' legs? If so, what time are both events scheduled for?
looking at some of the Ridley Report coverage, you look like you are all having a great time.
Hey Doobie nice dress!
(only kidding)

I know I'm asking a lot here, but could I get a straight answer to this? I'm trying to decide which day(s) to come up.
Whichever day you come up, we'll have a frog jumping competition. I wasn't serious about the frog legs, but if someone else wants to do it, go for it :)

Wow, this sounded/sounds like so much fun! My grandson has been sick that's why I haven't been able to come yet.
When does it end?
I was going to talk to Rick tonight when he gets home and see if we can find a babysitter and just come by ourselves tomorrow night. I hope it didn't end yet and we can make it work out.
Oh yeah, and I hope we don't get lost for 4 hours like last time. I'm pretty sure Rick remembers the way so I'll just let him direct me.
Tuesday is the last day. Stick to the directions and you should be OK. :)

Okay, thanks Kat!
Oh yeah, should we bring anything if we get to come?
We don't have a big enough pot for the cannibal cookoff. Do you have anything that would fit a whole person?
I had a really great time at Burning Porcupine 2009 from Wed to Sun. Thank you to everyone that helped with the flaming event!
Did the hike happen today? When I hiked the mountain on Sunday it was very muddy but most of the mud was easy to avoid. Since Sunday was a clear day the views were fantastic. Looking from the top of the mountain, I saw mountains in every direction.
good hike ... a little muddy

Darn! I guess the weather isn't go to be that good, huh? :-\ Rain, means a lot of frogs! I may not go, I'm not sure. :-\
One of us went to the regular Tuesday night yoga class (less than 5 miles from the Hoyt farm.)
Others played parlor games ... and had double feature movies to watch ... popcorn ... etc.
today is more cleanup ... most everyone helped put trash in the right containers to make it easier on us
At least 6 out-of-staters (and one "tri-stater" who takes the 5th) were here today.
Lots of fun ... two fish caught today ...
Is it really over already? ;)
I still have lots of video to edit ...
Here is one of Maria (from Ma.) singing (an original) today:
