It had not occured to me to do a netflix type business with books, but than, maybe that is why I am just now hearing of these types of things.  No one else thought of it either.
What is odd, is with a simple catalog, and phone, mail textbooks could exist before the internet.

The textbook business is quite a racket. They make minor changes to the textbooks every year or nearly so to force people to buy new books. Otherwise there is constant tedium as people try to work with slightly different books. They assignments are basically the same, but with a few pages added so that they're not on the same page or chapter, etc. It keeps people from being able to buy used books for very long.

I hope this new service is helpful. Didn't read about it, to be honest, so I can't evaluate it.
