Title: Outreach Idea?
Post by: AnarchoJesse on April 03, 2009, 03:02 PM NHFT
Some of you may be familiar with the phrase "bootlicker" (and for those of you who aren't familiar with it, it's a person who tries to appease others by being servile and acting with little self-respect), and I was thinking it would be cool if we could get boot shaped lollipops to hand out to bootlickers at events such as court dates, city council meetings, etc.

I haven't done much research into it, but I was hoping to get a feel for it and some feedback before I took it any further.

http://www.customchocolateshop.com/8h-15727.html has molds for 2 dollars, you could make the suckers out of corn syrup "because it's just as good as sugar!" (I am sure the boot lickers would all agree)

This is a funny idea, but the recipients may not take any that until we demonstrate the wholsomeness by eating some ourselves.  Who would do that?

The pie-chart socialists have a good outreach system...they hand out cookies that are packaged with a little info about how the federal gov't should give more money to education. We could do the same at court dates with info about how the system is inherently unjust, prosecutor and judge paid by the same organization, system not based on consent, etc. Little things to plant the seed.

If people take something for free, they often feel obligated to read whatever comes with it. So long as they're unaware you're pitching anything when you hand them goodies.

At one of the trials in Manchester, we convinced a guy who was waiting for his turn to go to demand a trial instead of pleading guilty. He ended up with a $100 suspended sentence instead of a fine. Several times, Ivy talked to someone who either didn't defend themselves (but realistically could have) or who did a terrible job of defending themselves, about how to actually do so. When the site we're working on is up, we plan to start handing out cards to people at court directing them to the site.

I don't see how intentionally insulting people is going to get them to stand up for themselves.

I like that. More people would challenge if they knew how.
