Title: I'm Coming Home...
Post by: bigmike on August 04, 2009, 12:56 AM NHFT
It's not that I've met a lot of you but some of us have talked. I never planned on leaving Manchester last year but family issues forced me to return to Detroit. It's been a rough year for my family but there's nothing I can do to improve the situation. I leave now or stay here forever.

The goals of the FSP are not going to be met in my lifetime. I don't say that as a discouragement. This is the line in the sand. I'll die trying, likely by old age.

Once I got bored with Michigan in early August and decided Las Vegas was the best place to move to because I'd be able to go into any casino on a Sunday to catch the Lions' game. I've been all over the country for work or visiting. The only place that ever felt like home besides the Detroit area was in Texas.

Then I discovered the FSP. The idea became a home. NH comes second.

I'm taking the bus from Detroit to Manchester. It's a 24 hour trip starting at 7:20 pm on Sunday the 16th, I arrive on Monday night. I think I'm all set for a place to stay but there is a possibility I won't be able to pick up the keys until the next morning. I may need to post a request for a couch to crash on for a night and was hoping to get a head count for who could do that if I need it.

Welcome and congrats.  I don't live anywhere near Manchester so I cannot help you, though.

since the goal is "liberty in our lifetime" ... then i guess it cannot be accomplished after you are gone ... we will just have to try harder

what does texas have in common with detroit .... the blue light gang?

I tell myself the goals can't be met in my lifetime so that I will work harder.

In Midland, Texas when I walked down the street people smiled and said hi like they knew me. It reminded me of my neighborhood and gave me a feeling of being home. I got the same vibe in Manchester and that was without knowing any of the activists. I overheard three women in a restaurant talking about secession and knew I'd like it there.

You can't possibly be from Detroit them. Novi, perhaps?  ;D (Livonia, if you're actually from Wayne County)

No Kevin, you're right. I should have explained this, as it's only important to those from the D:

Disclaimer: If you're from Michigan it's insulting to those that live in Detroit to say you're from Detroit when you don't or never have actually lived there. I learned this at a young age. It's a respect thing; by saying you're from there you admit to having gone through what people in Detroit go through.

It's tough in Mount Clemens (Macomb County) where I grew up, but not Detroit tough. I'm lucky enough that people in my neighborhood know me at least on a first name basis and when I walk to the store we'll at least exchange pleasantries. It doesn't always turn out that way for people that live here and sometimes bad things happen to good people.

Ah... I was stationed at Goodfellow AFB, in San Angelo.

Used to fly out of Midland, to go visit my parents.

Yep got in on time last night. See you when you get here Isophix.

Brian and Mackler scooped me up from the airport, drove me around to find a place to crash.

We went back to Porc Row, it was so cool of those guys, cxxguy and the nice lady who crashes on the sofa (sorry I forgot your name) to just open their home to a stranger and make me feel welcome.

Thanks so much guys. I look forward to being able to do the same for a new mover in the future.

Now if I can just find a pothole that needs to be filled....

Oh yeah... you're used to roads being dirt with watermelon sized chunks of asphalt lying around, huh?

It's either a tire-popping crater or, yes, the 6-8" high pile of asphalt that the road crews hope will "settle" over time.

Thanx dude. I grew up with many Mike's and a lot of Italians who did the nickname thing. You should see Little Mike ;)

While you're at it "Drapery Tony" is not a guy you'd want to make fun of as an interior decorator.

I didn't get to talk with anyone for as long as I wanted to, but I'll do my best to be a regular on Taproom Tuesdays. I'm sure we'll see each other around. Thanks for making me feel welcome.
