One year anniversary of the first UN Flag burn.
We have a nice fire pit picked out in Robin Hood park in Keene.
We know that we don't need permission from the park. They just ask that we keep it clean.
We know that we don't need a protest permit, since Keene doesn't have them.
Bring your favorite UN Flag or facsimile and join us for a little fun.
In honor of your arrival in NH Dreepa ..... you can light up the first flag. 8)
It is on my calendar!!!
We should do it in the afternoon, when it is warm.
I don't have an UN flag or UN banner, but I'd like to fashion a banner or poster with the following:
"United Nations One World Government & UN Global Consensus"
to throw into the UN flag bonfire. Is that okay? Otherwise, I'll mock up an UN flag.
You have NO idea how much I detest the concept of a One World Government! :(

Sounds great!!

It could make a nice poster and the winning idea person will get the credit and a 13 x 19 sign to be given at the UN Flag Burn.

It is funny how there is almost a nostalgia aspect to this event and it was only a year ago and not a big deal.

UNITED NATIONS DRAFTS NEW GUN TREATY
Sunday, October 16, 2005 - FreeMarketNews.com
The United Nations is trying to ban guns again. The latesst "small-arms treaty" seeks to abolish the right of any citizens to own virtually any kind of firearm. In the United States, such an effort would strike at the heart of the Constitution?s Second Amendment. Recently appointed U.S. diplomat John Bolton has already stated his view on this activity, as quoted by NRA Executive Wayne LaPierre in The American Rifleman, ?The United States will not join consensus on a final document that contains measures contrary to our constitutional right to keep and bear arms.?
LaPierre references a document circulated by the International Action Network on Small Arms entitled ?Ownership? which spells out what the organization has determined to be ?minimal? goals toward this end. Among other things they recommended ? with LaPierre?s translation in parentheses:
? Prohibit civilian ownership of certain weapons (read: handguns and semi-automatics).
? Prevent the build-up of private arsenals (read: ban gun collecting).
? License all legal users. Register all small arms. Implement safe storage requirements (read: U.N.-imposed site inspections of your home with power to take your guns).
? Limit the carrying of guns (read: the end of Right to Carry).
? Restrict ammunition sales to license holders only.
Since it is unlikely that the United Nations will be dissuaded from pursuing these changes anytime soon, LaPierre sets out the job at hand. He concludes, ?For us the task is daunting, and the fight is enormous. The world gun-ban crowd is deadly serious. As NRA members, this is our fight. And it is a do-or-die battle for freedom.?-DS

What is your problem with the Germans and French, Chester? Are you upset that they don't go along with the war on terror, American style?
Are you aware of the large Islamic populations in those countries and the Hell they will endure if they join the U.S. insanity?
Like the hell that France is putting them through by not allowing religious dress/ornamentation in schools?

We could buy some flamable blue fabric and make flags using stencils and spray paint.
I'll work on it.

Do you want to put your name in there?
I love the Presidential seal idea ;D
Yes, we have lighter fluid. Or maybe we can dip in waste veggie oil.
Do we need 24 of them?
I'm going to work on making some very flamable UN flags using stencils.
Soak them in diesel fuel and then in ammonia nitrate...
I don't think so Tim...
Yea lets use Lloyd's we only need like 1 a year. The poly ones burn funny .... the cotton ones take their time. :)
So what name did we land on?
The problem with using a fixed date is that the next year that date will probably occur on a weekday.
What kind of cake do you want this year? :)

Cake mix or enough scratch to make a cake
can of peaches: halves, pieces whatever is cheapest
a can of pears, same
strawberries, blueberries, if you've got them
Lots of whipped cream
Bake a regular vanilla?, white?, yellow? cake in a couple of round pans. Slice each one thru their diameter making 4 layers. If you have a long knife or sawblade you can put the cake between two boards about half their thickness and cut thru using the boards as a guide.
1)Slather layer of WC on cake layer, sprinkle fruit on it
cover with 2and layer, repeat #1
Cover with 3rd layer, repeat #1
Cover with last layer, WC the whole cake, sprinle remaining fruit on top.
Refrigerate
Yum :)

So what day will this flag burning be?
On another point, I saw a pretty impressive GIF online that depicted an Nazi helmet next to one bearing a UN logo. Some text read something to the effect of "same evil different helmet", if I have time I might craft a read flag bearing a swazstka, to burn along side the UN flags. It might help emphasize a point.
I have friends who would definitely like to be at this event.
The'Same evil different helmet' quote doesn't make any sense. Swastika's really upset people, which isn't always a bad thing, but, could be. We should focus on the UN.

It's not?
Not if you burn any flag that anyone wants to bring.
excerpt from a Libertarian Party press release last December:
"Here are five good reasons to pull out of the UN immediately":
(1) The UN is the mother of all bloated, corrupt bureaucracies.
According to the Cato Institute's Handbook for Congress, which urges withholding all payments until the UN shows a commitment to reform, the agency is "a miasma of corruption beset by inefficiency, Kafkaesque bureaucracy, and misconceived programs."
A recent audit found $16.8 million in outright fraud and waste, including nearly $4 million in cash that was stolen from UN offices in Mogadishu, Somalia; a project director of the Relief and Works Agency who personally pocketed $100,000; and hundreds of employees who receive monthly rent subsidies of $3,800.
In addition, personnel costs eat up a whopping 70 percent of the agency's operating expenses, and former Secretary-General Boutros-Ghali admitted to the Washington Post that "half of the UN work force does nothing useful."
(2) Forcing U.S. taxpayers to subsidize foreign nations is wrong in principle.
"Foreign aid is one of the least popular government programs, with good reason," Seehusen said. "Most Americans rightly resent it when politicians ship their money overseas to finance welfare programs that are even more wasteful and corrupt than the ones Congress has created here at home."
(3) UN funds are used to prop up foreign dictators.
"Take just one example: Saddam Hussein," Seehusen pointed out. "The Oil-for-Food program funneled over $67 billion to the Iraqi government between 1997 and 2002, helping to pay for the weapons that Saddam used to slaughter both his own people and some of the U.S. troops that invaded Iraq."
Other groups that benefited from Saddam's largesse, according to an April 21 Heritage Foundation study, include the communist parties of Russia and the Ukraine; the PLO; and government officials in Syria and Lebanon.
(4) The UN has failed at its most basic mission: preventing war.
In Somalia, Bosnia and other conflicts, the agency's record is "a chronicle of failure," according to Cato, which says UN peacekeepers tend to "become a party to the conflict rather than to preserve its impartiality."
(5) The UN is anti-American.
"The 185-member General Assembly is dominated by non-Western states that routinely bash the United States, even though Americans pay 22 percent of the agency's budget," Seehusen said. "These anti-American zealots love to bite the hand that feeds them -- and Congress responds by continuing to fork over American's money.
These could be good to have on the flyer for this event.
Who wants to do the flyer this year?

<<I love the tee-shirt, Kat. That would raise some eyebrows at Keene Compulsory High School.>>
would you be willing to put up flyers at the school inviting the students to the burn? Do we have a flyer yet?
Sure, I'd be willing to slap up some flyers, Rus. I would warn you that flyers for a UN flag burn are likely to attract angry Neo-cons or worse. I hope that the wording expresses the spirit of NH Underground, to help deter such individuals.
I also wanted to make it a point to invite the opposition. Does anyone know of someone that I could contact? I know that this might seem weird to some of you, but the thought ran through my mind that the thought of counter protesting a flag burn, put on by armed individuals, may scare some of the liberals in Keene. I'm not going to make excuses for people carrying weapons; it's a right that needs no excuses made for it. I am going to explain to the opposition that no threat is being made to peaceful people who just want to come and express their opinion.
I think that making such an invitation would do a lot to help our image with those in the opposition. It would make it clear to people who misunderstand or mistrust us, that we truly believe in the right to free speech for all.
To be honest, I'm not sure who I can get in touch with. I know that there are some people who believe in global government, or at least believe that the UN is a good thing. I'm just not sure that there are many people who support the institution so much that they would even consider protesting.
Any thoughts?
Last year we had the Monadnock Freedom Forum guys threatening to counter protest. It was cool, but they didn't show. Maybe I should post on their forum inviting them again this year.

Quote from: citizen_142002 on November 13, 2005, 11:35 PM NHFTI would warn you that flyers for a UN flag burn are likely to attract angry Neo-cons or worse.
I don't quite understand what you mean. Can you explain a little more?
I don't see Neo-Cons as a problem. Many of them question our involvement with the U.N, now that we're not running it.
I equate Lefties with a love of the U. N. and it's possibilities for One World government.
The individuals at school, who agree with me about needing to get rid of the UN, are usually coming from a very different angle. They see the US as strong enough to have no need of the UN in order to defend itself, and I couldn't agree more. I don't agree with the sentiment that many of these people express in regards to foreign policy which is, might is right, and if it benefits the US in any way to attack a country, then there is nothing wrong with doing so.
I'm not saying that these people are sure to show up, but I wouldn't be surprised if a few of them did. I just want to know if the posters are going to express any of the reasoning for opposing the United Nations. Either way, I'll post some and hope that they attract liberty-lovers, and not imperialists.
Wow, what are they teaching these guys at the schools? :o

I am proud of my AK clone and I'll bring it to exercise my right to do so.
But, again I'll emphasize, let's make our peaceful intentions known.

Subject: Monadnock Freedom Forum (MFF) Dissolves (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/monadnockfreedomforum/message/3888)
After having been in sleep mode for a while, the Board of Trustees
of Monadnock Freedom Forum (MFF) has decided to dissolve the formal
organization of MFF. We will continue offering the message board for
community members to share news.
Many of MFF's initiatives are being continued by Monadnock Institute
for Community Advancement and Sustainability (MICAS). Many MICAS
members are still strongly committed to the foundational principles
of MFF, such as citizen governance, media reform, the bill of
rights, thwarting corporatocracy, and so on. There will be numerous
opportunities to carry forth the mission of MFF under a new banner.
You can learn more about MICAS at www.micasonline.org or by calling
357-5848.
The Board would like to express our appreciation for the community's
support over the past two years.
Sincerely,
John-Michael Dumais, Board President
Guess there wont be a counter-protest this year either.
What do these groups know about "sustainability"? ;)
Kat, thanks for trying to contact the opposition. I can't find anyone who belongs to it. There may be a teacher from KHS coming to the protest. Go easy on his philosophy, we're trying to convert him gently. He is a peace activist, and opposes violence in all forms, even that purpotrated by the UN. He might be too much of a pacifist, but I believe that exposure to the Lockian, libertarian point of view may move him to our side.
Cool :)

Dear folks at the Sentinel:
An invite for your readers...
On Sunday, December 18, activists from NHfree.com - and other local opponents of the United Nations - will stage the second annual UN Flag Burn at Robin Hood Park in Keene. The blue flags will blaze starting around noon, and everyone is welcome - regardless of their opinion. Strangely enough the counterprotest which was supposed to happen last year never materialized, and the organization which promised it has since dissolved.
As before, participants are invited to bring open-carried, lawfully borne firearms, that they may peacefully celebrate those gun rights which New Hampshire enshrines but the UN seeks to destroy.
It was an honor to have Erica and Steve from the Sentinel covering the story last year; they and any of your staff will be welcome again this year!
Anyone who would like to know more is welcome to visit NHfree.com or give me a ring at _____ - although I should make clear that I am not in charge. Fortunately, neither is the UN just yet!
See you there.
Not only did our counter protesters not show up ...... we never were punished by the UN for subjecting their flag to "indignities". ;D

Because illegal arms sales harm national security and "endanger the well-being of people and their social and economic development," governments should draw up an international instrument to combat the illicit manufacturing of and trafficking in firearms, the UN Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice has recommended. The draft resolution, which was adopted on 30 April at the close of a Commission session in Vienna, is being passed on to the UN Economic and Social Council for approval. Of the 33 countries sponsoring the resolution, 13 are from Africa. The US, in a shift from previous policy, also joined in sponsoring the resolution.

Mr. Kanning,
We have learned through a local "Letter to the Editor" that you plan another flag burning event in Robin Hood Park. Last year, after the event, I was informed by the Keene Fire Department that burning in a park picnic area requires a fire permit. The reason is that the burning is purely for burning and not for cooking food as the fire pits were and are intended for. I was told that you, or someone in your organization was informed of this last year. You will need a fire permit from the Keene Fire Department and they tell me the permit requires the permission of the land owner. In this situation I would be signing off as the land owner. If presented with signing off, I will refuse. This use of a picnic area in a park is not appropriate in my view. They were created and funded by citizens with the intent that people would have cookouts there. Open burning for the sake of open burning can be done somewhere else. Brian Mattson
Director, Keene Parks, Recreation and Facilities Department
I am wondering if or how I should respond......any ideas?

Inform him that he is not the land owner. The citizens of Keene are the landowners. An emergency referendum has to be held!
Or
Do you have the communication from the Fire Dept from last year that said you didn't need a permit if you used the pits?
Last year the parks and rec guy was happy as long as we didn't make a mess. Now he is upping the antte.
There is no such thing as a burn permit in NH when the snow is on the ground.
We can play little games with them or ignore them. We can toast marshmellows over a fire inside the pits with snow on the ground. That should just about cover things. ;)
Or .... we can just ignore them ..... which is the goal of our movement in the first place.
Kat also mentioned that the park may be owned by someone who has allowed public use and the city to care for it. (another fun twist) I definitely agree that the parks and rec guy is not the "owner" no matter how you slice it.

Liberty lovers from across the Live Free or Die State converged on Keene, New Hampshire today to demonstrate their defiance of the United Nations. Twenty citizens from Keene and as far away as Rochester and Etna joined in opposing the UN by burning multiple UN flags. A promised counter-protest failed to materialize.
Various reasons for disgust with the UN drew this group together. Some were there in opposition to UN attempts to ban private gun ownership as was proposed at the 2001 UN Small Arms and Light Weapons Conference. A few gun rights advocates wore their firearms openly in celebration of the fact that our right to defend ourselves and our families is respected in New Hampshire. The oil-for-food scandal drew many to protest the excesses of Kofi Annan and the theft of our tax dollars.
The loss of sovereignty inherent in world government, and in particular from the giving over of US parklands to UN control angered many. Many were surprised to learn that the UN controls a large section of forest land in New Hampshire, the Hubbard Brook Biosphere Reserve and Experimental Forest, located in the White Mountain National Forest. Many participants in the demonstration hope for passage of New Hampshire's 2005-H-0002-R, which if passed will urge Congress to withdraw the United States from the United Nations.

Liberty lovers from across New Hampshire will be converging on Keene this Saturday for a grassroots, middle-America protest against the United Nations.
We object to the continued reign of "thief in chief" Kofi Annan and asking that the Feds stop sending taxpayer dollars to this failed institution. We object to the UN attempts to disarm American citizens. We object to national parklands and monuments being given over to UN control (this includes the Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest, a 3,158 hectare reserve located within the White Mountain National Forest of central New Hampshire). We object to the UN attempts to control US education. To demonstrate our defiance, we will be torching a UN flag.
We'll be joined by local "mewzickian-poet" Dada Orwell, who will spin a custom tune or two for us. We'll roast some marshmallows and generally have a good time. You're invited to bring open-carried firearms, anti-UN signs and friends...but most importantly bring your love of freedom!
Time: 11am Saturday, December 18
Place: Robin Hood Park in Keene on Roxbury at Reservoir Street. We'll be at the picnic grounds near the reservoir dam.

Mr. Milner,
Sorry I missed your name. Mr. Kanning has been corresponding via email with me this morning and my fingers took over my eyes.
I am not denying free speech. The receptacles for fires in Robin Hood Park and other parks are intended for cookouts. Allowing burning for the sake of burning up objects or items doesn't fit the intended purpose. If I permit the burning of flags, then what next will people be burning that will have to be allowed? Possibly trash, who knows?
Must the flags be burnt to make the point?
I have been signing off on the scheduling of Robin Hood Park amphitheater, Railroad Square and Central Square for years and there has never been even a suggestion of denial of Free Speech rights to use those facilities.
The control of safe and reasonable use of park picnic cook sites should not be confused with the control of Free Speech.

One does not need a permit to burn when there is snow cover, but that might not apply in an urban zone.
It might be a good idea to contact the fire department, just to let them know that there will be a burn going on. From the way that I read the state law posted a couple pages ago, nothing is said about the purpose of the fires, so long as they are in the designated pits. I don't imagine that everyone who does use the pits for cooking gets the permission of the director of Parks and Rec. I say that we ignore the parks folks this year, and simply notify the fire department.
If this is going to be a problem next year, someone ought to seek an injunction against the city.
The fire department is the one that doesn't like us for some reason. They notified the parks department that we would need a permit.
When you have a picnic in the park in the middle of the dry hot summer, you don't ask for permission from the fire department. Why would you in December?

The parks department probably asked the fire department to advise against your burn.

He probably started to tell me, but I wasn't really listening. The fire guy is the one with the fire problem. I am sure.
Brian responded to me Monday morning.
He is worried about a slippery slope of home garbage burning. I asked him if that had ever been a problem and he admitted "no".
My friend is currently obtaining his EMT and is doing ride alongs with the Keene FD. Supposedly any fireman can grant the permit to burn. His father knows the director of parks and Rec., the strings are currently being pulled. More Thursday evening.
Better to cut the strings than pull them. ;D
They must find it interesting how we are interacting with them in 4 or 5 different ways.

Camp or cooking fires may be built without written permission on public camp or picnic grounds when such areas are open for public use or private camp and picnic places where suitable fireplaces approved by the forest fire warden are provided for such fires. As used in this paragraph, a camp or cooking fire shall be a small fire suitable for cooking purposes used in connection with camp, picnic or lunch purposes and does not include the burning of household rubbish, or large amounts of brush or other flammable material. Whoever shall kindle or cause to be kindled any such fire or use an abandoned fire in or near woodlands shall totally extinguish the same before leaving it and, upon failure to do so, such person or persons shall be subject to the same liabilities and penalties as prescribed in this section.

Well, I heard back from Mattson. Here is a copy of his response.
Mr. Johnson,
I had a meeting with Mr. Kanning who I understand is the organizer of the event you refer to. I explained to him that Fire Codes do not allow for items to be brought to a fireplace in a public area for the sake of burning. If you want an interpretation of the Fire Codes, I would suggest to you as I did to Mr. Kanning that you should talk to the officials at the Fire Department. Contact Gary LaFreniere who is the Fire Inspector.

It doesn't seem to me that he has a leg to stand on, even from the point of the law. What he is telling me is that we ARE allowed to have a fire, but we aren't allowed to burn anything? Is that contradictory or what? Would that include firewood? Personally, I view the U.N. flags as fuel.

I'll try to bring some firewood.
We also need to make some good protest signs that encapsualte our purpose and message. Any ideas? ???
How about:
Unified Nonsense
Unaccountable Nincompoops
Say NO to Global Gov't
World Courts & Taxes? We don't think so!

Awww, this was a charming classic:
Quote from: SethCohn
Quote
However, in the light of a recent provocative and incendiary announcement on our list-serve: "New Hampshire Liberty Lovers to Burn UN Flag in Defiance of the United Nations" which invited people from across New Hampshire to come to a UN flag burning in Keene?s Robin Hood Park, "bringing open-carried firearms," MFF decided to draft a resolution clarifying Monadnock Freedom Forum?s position on the United Nations.
(sarcasm on)
Congrats to Kat and Dada and Russell for successfully pissing off both the left and right in one fell swoop. It's so good to see that Libertarian activism is alive and well in NH.
(sarcasm off)
Maybe next time, you 3 will think twice and listen to others' advice. So far, you've only managed to make people willing to take stances against you, or to plaster themselves with disclaimers against you. 20K activists like that, we don't need.
Work with the rest of us, ok? You managed to take a decent idea, raise red flags with everyone, and burn as many bridges as you could. You'd think that lesson wasn't needed yet again, but....
If Keene's balance is strongly to the left, why are you working so hard to push them away? Embrace and extend.
More than a little annoyed with the way this is going PR wise...
It is really funny how a guy like Seth wanted to run and hide from the mff ..... not only did they never show up ..... they no longer exist.
We are dumping these socialists on the ash heap of history.
I say run every Idea past Seth if he doesn't like it, then you know it's good.
If it sends him off into one of his rants it is excellant.
LOL!
Good idea. I wonder if he thinks we should do another flag burn.

8) it is cool to see the evolution of the idea. Thanks to DaDa for lighting the spark!
I really didn't care all that much about burning the UN flag at first. But the more I think about 'ONE WORLD GOVERNMENT'... the UN baby blue makes the organization seem sweet as a 'teddy bear', the thought of a future under it's control is quite chilling.

I will have to say that your burning last year is what pushing me over the edge and made me move to NH faster.
I am not a radical (yet?) but I saw people DOING something not just talking.
I am hoping to get there on Sunday... I am trying to switch my work hours to be there.

Only if we light them all at once.
Any one got an address for Robin Hood Park?
Never mind mapquest found it.
Kat,
Elizabeth is making her famous 8 layer mexican dip, with corn chips and veggies for dipping. Also she is bringing the makings of beer margaritas. :)
Cool :)
The park is at the intersection of Roxbury and Reservoir Sts.
If the first entrance is slippery, then keep going around to the second entrance after the tennis courts. :)
I don't know if there is a good place, but we might bring a sled for william to fool around on.

Although missnamed Robinhood Forest, and, only close to where the park is, it is in the Keene area of the New Hampshire Atlas. You've got one, don't you Pat?
NH Atlases: List price $20.00 my price $15.00, 5 bucks goes to the LSF.
I'll have a couple with me on Sunday.
I'm going up early and do some tax free shopping.
Oops yes I do have one it is in the trunk.

All work and no burning makes dreepa a sad boy.
Turnout at the burn itself appears to have been 21 with others probably showing up for the after-burn party.
No cops or bureaucrats, but no mainstream press journalists either and no long guns. There were 4 or 5 open carried pistols this time however :)
It was fun. Pitchforks work great for hotdogs.

It was mainly the lack of a scarf that did it. I also had a proper winter hat but never put it on...
My secret weapon against the cold is silk long johns. Warm as toast without being too stuffy. (Plus... they make me feel so sexy) ;D
A couple of things I learned spending three winters in Germany, often in the field: first, "If your feet are cold, put on a hat" is very true. Right to the point that if you put on a hat and a good heavy scarf, your feet will start to sweat. Next, sweat is bad. Regulate your clothing (and moderate your activity) so that everything stays dry. During an afternoon outing, it's just a matter of comfort. But for a full day, overnight, or especially for a couple of days outside, dry is your friend. Cold is not the enemy, but wet will kill you.

Aww, that's sweet.
Got some editing done on the UN Flag Burn video.
We sure had a good time.;D
Need to go through and tighten it up and lose some stuff. It's still coming in over 9 mins. I'll try to get it down to 5 or 6 min.
A bit challenging with no narrative and no music to cut to. But, I'm going to try and use a little of the back and forth between Russell and the Park dude at his office to tell the story. Bureaucrat says no, activists say yes and a good time was had by all.
I need to get it done this coming up week. Take advantage of the house being quiet with the wife and son gone.?
I can here the distant boom boom of the New Year's fireworks. Happy New Years NH Underground. :)

Our Steve Earle's "The Revolution Starts Now"...
But, I'm a wimp when it comes to copyright infringment. Especially with all the 'legal beagles' on the forum, it would of course become a big deal.
The music I used for the SS Card Burn was used with permission of a good friend.
Maybe we should ask the artist. :)
Maybe you could ask Pokerface to write a song or other more soundtrack friendly music for this or future videos.
One of them was responding to Kat on a Liberty forum and referenced your porcfest video. 8)
Matt Fitzgibbons of Patriot Music (http://www.patriotmusic.com) could also be approached. He (and I thnk Gene) attended last year's PorcFest.
oh yea
Fucking copyright.. ruining all our fun. ::)
Made some good progress editing. Got it down under 7 min. even with adding an almost 1.5 min intro from Russell's interactiion with the park department dude. Now I'll just weave a few more sound bites of the back and forth through the rest of the piece. (you can't... yes I can... etc.)
As for music I'm playing with the same instrumental I used for the SS Card Burn video. Kind of a poignant, bitter sweet tune... maybe the right signature music for our struggle against 'Leviathan'.
All out of 'juice' so I'll stop and look at it with fresh eyes tomorrow. :)
Awsome, Roger, thanks!
I can't wait to see it, Roger. I liked the music to the SS burn video. Noticeable, but not in the way, and serious but fun at the same time.

It makes me happy to see I pretty much hit the mark. Your comments (in your PM) show that you got what I thought I wanted to communicate. Although I wasn't able to quite convey that the burn permit issue never came to pass.
The Park dude was pretty slippery and never really was exactly pinned down with good short 'sound bites'.
The feedback is greatly appreciated, because after viewing the footage over and over during the editing process I can tend to become too close to the work and not entirely objective anymore. I would like to encourage other viewers on the forum to talk about what they like and what they thought we could do better for the benefit of our future projects.
I'm interested in fostering our understanding of this visual language and improving the execution of these events. The saying that "...a picture says a thousand words." is only part of it. The other part, I've come to believe, is if you don't capture and exploit the images, sounds and ultimately the emotions it's almost like it didn't really happen.

I can output to different formats to offer people. If I just converted the .mov to another format it will really trash what little image quality is there.
This is an mp4 type compression which is pretty damn good. I need to get you folks to help me test other format's compatibilities on the different operating systems. Probably not on this show... I need to get to the backlog of other work that I tend to neglect when doing this fun stuff. I can't tie up my machine uploading and messing around with trying different formats etc.
A .mp4 file would be a nice option... only a tiny bit larger file size but I'm not sure how much more universally compatible that would be. I'm still learning about the compressed video world. It is tough for me to see the hit in quality that it produces... don't get me wrong it actually is pretty amazing how well the image holds up taking gigabytes worth of data and stuffing down to 17 Mb... but I love full resolution... hell I'm wishing I was working in HD video for this stuff. Ahhh... HD... that would be nice!

Well they're at it again...
The FREE RADICALs of the New Hampshire Underground are burnin' things precious to the Bureaucrats... again. Last time on the pyre was the Social Slavery Cards.
This time the target of the barbecue treatment is the 'old baby blue' of the UN Flag.
It seems the folks at NHFREE.com take exception to the UN's plans of a 'One World Government' and their stated mission to disarm? the citizens.
This band of 'merry men and women' , get a letter to the editor published in the Keene, NH newspaper, inviting people to come enjoy torching the flag of the one worlders' with them.
"... participants are invited to bring open-carried, lawfully borne firearms, that they may peacefully celebrate those gun rights which New Hampshire enshrines but the UN seeks to destroy..."
Checkout how the Parks Dept.head 'crat attempts to spoil the fun and block the exercise of their rights.
Appropriately the hallowed ground chosen to ROAST the WEENIES is called Robin Hood Park.

If a video can be played in Linux then it should be easy to play in Windows too. (The opposite is not always true unfortunately.)
Does this work?
http://my5minutes.com/displaymedia.php?pos=-31128
QuickTime is a great format. When Apple makes software for Windows, they want Windows users to say, "Hey, this Apple stuff is pretty good!" When Microsoft makes software for Mac, it seems like their goal is to make users think, "Wow, this sucks. I better switch to Windows, 'cuz it works better over there."
Odd strategy. Doesn't seem to work, either. ;D

Yeah!
Now I am waiting for the confirm email.. It has been 5 minutes.
A few over 100 folks have accessed the UN Flag Burn video... pretty good for the first 24 hours.
The majority appear to be clicking through from this forum and from e-mails some must have sent out. :)
If you can post on other forums we can generate even more traffic.

Great! I emailed it out on nhporcupines-announce, so maybe that was why there were a bunch from email.
Could someone add a link to the video to this page? Please, thanks.

Roger, super editing job! That looked time consuming. Both the audio and video work was excellent.
When I get up that way, I'll be sure to bring my DV cam out to any events and if you'd like I'll just hand you my tape so you have some alternate angles to use, as I certainly don't have time for video editing, nor am I practiced at it like you are.

We have a compelling story to tell...
I live for this kind of work... guerilla documentary style. I've waited many years to have the capability the new digital tools provide. Started "making movies" with my 8mm windup, a razor blade and scotch tape. Things I'm personal connected with give much more satisfaction than all the "pro" projects put together.
Attempting to develop and refine our techniques of producing and promoting 'viral video' over the web... here is my latest idea.
Tell us, on the forum, where you've posted a link to the video
http://nhfree.politicalgraffiti.com/second_annual_UN_Flag_Burn.htm
I'll PM you access to the large screen version.
A little thank you for your work in promoting liberty through the NH Underground.
Let's get more Free State activists to come join the fun!
Soon the rest of the freedom movement can see that their hopes and dreams have a home in New Hampshire.
Over at the FSP... :)
Thanks Roger.? Another good one!? I'm so glad you're making these.? It will be in the Jan FSP News.

UN Flags Burned in Robin Hood Park 12/18/05
Keene, NH
December 19th, 2005
by Russell Kanning staff reporter
A small crowd of people gathered in Robin Hood Park yesterday to thumb their noses at the United Nations. They brought multiple UN Flags to burn over the fire on poles. Others held signs asking the US to get out of the UN.
The UN wants to disarm the world's population. These people were openly carrying their sidearms and telling the United Nations, "Not today!"
They roasted sausages and marshmellows over the fire with pitchforks. As the event wound down parents and kids were sledding nearby.

Well isn't that special... ?;D
Thanks Kat, just trying to inspire others to spread the word... post a link and then let the rest of the forum know about it. That way our efforts are shown to the rest of the freedom movement. People are starting to see that things are happening in New Hampshire. The videos are just a way for folks to know that there are activists that do more than talk.
That's why I got involved... because the Unidentified Flying Objector had the guts to challenge the TSA. I wanted to go to the airport and tape Russell's act of disobedience, but I was afraid to. In the aftermath the guilt tore me up... here was someone going up against Leviathan and I didn't even stand by him.
When Lauren went to jail and stayed silent... that pushed me over the edge. William and I went to the protest in New London and the picture of a 4-year-old holding the Free Lauren sign went into the paper. Mike Fisher complimented me for the sign I made and I realized at least that is something I could contribute.
When Kat and Russell took a stand to burn their 'papers' I had to do what I could do.
Dave Ridley's open carry incident after the SS Card Burn was another moment that galvanized my resolve.
All this is to illustrate that we need to show others that there is hope and they are not alone in wanting to find people they can stand with going into freedom's uncertain future.
The video work is my tribute to the brave and the bold... the pioneers.
The way I see it, the least I can do is to be the combat cameraman. Maybe, the least you can do is to make sure their efforts are seen and felt by others.

Bush announces radical shift in foreign policy; No U.S. media report it
In case you thought the Bush administration's dangerous, and national-security-weakening unilateralism was just a one-time deal in Iraq, think again. Buried in the UK's Financial Times - and as far as I can tell, not reported anywhere else - are the details of a State Department briefing this week in which the Bush administration very publicly said it is essentially scrapping U.S. support for NATO and the United Nations. No joke.
Here's the key excerpt:
"The Bush administration says it wants to be able to form 'coalitions of the willing' more efficiently for dealing with future conflicts rather than turning to existing but unreliable institutional alliances such as Nato. 'We ad hoc our way through coalitions of the willing. That's the future,' a senior State Department official said in a briefing this week."
NATO and the U.N. are by no means perfect, and America should continue to reserve its right to defend itself. Nonetheless, this declaration by the administration represents a radical shift in U.S. policy (at least its publicly-stated policy). And one that begs a very simple question: how could anyone - even the Bush administration - look at the Iraq "coalition of the willing" model as anything but an incredible failure? It has left American troops isolated in Iraq, and American taxpayers largely footing the entire bill for reconstruction.
And let's be clear - the American public does not support abandoning international institutions. A solid majority of the American public views the United Nations favorably. In 2003, the American public was clearly unhappy with the administration's refusal to secure broad international backing for the Iraq war. Even Fox News' skewed polling shows strong support for international institutions being seriously involved in places like Iraq.
I'm not going to go into how pathetic it is that the only paper that reported this story was the Financial Times - a paper not even based in the United States (and by the way, if I am wrong, please send me another media outlet that reported this - but the point still stands, almost no one has reported this).
What's important here is less the media's irresponsible laziness and more how the extremist neoconserative forces in the Bush administration are trying to dangerously alter America's national security policy in a way the public doesn't support and in a way that would severely weaken America's security for the long haul.

My son William is 4 1/2 and homeschooling is the way we are going... I've been thinking that traditional classroom teaching is a virtual learning experience and in many ways inferior to a real learning experience in the real world. The wisdom that is gained from real world experience is one thing terriblly lacking in the culture our children live in.
The biggest problem I see with public schooling is the simple fact that everything is filtered through the concept of making "good (obedient) citizens", which is a preconceived notion put forth by the ruling members of society. It is an attempt to control the masses for their (the leadership's) benefit. It has little to do with education, and a lot to do with training and brainwashing.

Hey ..... burn your sscard too and film it. That would be cool too.

Better yet, come to NH and do it at the next annual burning.
Thanks for the kind words ljoss! Don't think that being outside NH means you can't help; just being active on this web forum and in touch with what we're doing is an important thing you can do to help...so I urge you to keep coming back to this forum!
Stopped by Robin Hood Park with William to have a picnic lunch. We decided to eat at the scene of the crime UN Flag Burn. ;)
Well... I was disappointed to see that the fireplace that we used had been recently removed. Asked some guys doing maintenance when and why it had been removed. They said it had been removed last week because it was old and a "hazard".
I guess maybe Park Dude figured he would remove the apparatus for our pyre.
Guess we'll have to toast them over the grill this year.
Maybe time for a private, rebuild the fire place project.
Maybe in our freedom park .... since they want to stop us in the other one.
Boy that seems like a lot of work to get rid of a stone fireplace.
Yeah by the end of summer the scar wasn't even visible. Removal of the old fireplace was a sign of the changes they all could see around them.
The ground where Lloyd had been seen to smile. On pitchforks our weenies roasted heartily. The laughter of children and adults alike. We bid fairwell... good bye Robin Hood Park.:'(
Time to build the sacred hearth, but where?
How could this rag tag band of folks, searching for the truth, have ever forseen the twisting turning arc that events would take.
A merry band of mischievous elves followed the elders. To a special place in the shadow an old bridge, where the land meet the flowing waters. This forgotten piece of a different time came to be called Freedom Park.
(cue the music) ;D
Yeah son,
Back in '06 freedom really seemed up against the ropes...

It was a thing of beauty.

It was definitely "old". But a "hazard"? Only in the world of rubber-padded playgrounds.
Kevin
has anyone heard of tearing down an old park fireplace?
So I guess Roger's vote is to start our own in the freedom park.
I could see staying or going ..... either way is a problem for the government ...... we will be burning things in December.
the more I think about them tearing down that stone fireplace to thwart us .... the funnier it gets.
Yeah our buddy Brian must have worried over this for the last six months...
"Damn UN flag burnin' Free Staters, how dare they think they can use the park for this purpose!"
;D
Maybe it needs to get bigger this year. :angry4: :violent5: :campfire:
