Title: PorcFest Agorist Cooperative!
Post by: Sovereign Curtis on December 17, 2009, 01:59 PM NHFT
Potential PFAC logos - Opinions?

Thanks to ThorsMiterSaw

ORIGINAL MESSAGE

Hello all. I would like to form the PorcFest Agorist Co-operative, or PFAC.

As I envision it, PFAC members would be visible, similar to PorcFest volunteers.

PFAC members would be available to answer questions, direct potential customers, and conduct free market transactions, on behalf of themselves, or as an intermediary.

Perceived advantages to a loose co-operative include: Being aware of most available free market opportunities, rather than just your own. Increase sales in your own particular line, from an increase in visibility (without screaming "I'm breaking the law!"), and "word of mouth" driven sales leads from other OMBA's. A loose Agorist network! Potential referral income. Etc etc.

So how bout it, folks?

I'm thinking we can make some shirts, or use some other identifier, which we'll wait until PF to reveal.
We can also discuss the various ins and outs of a loose co-operative.

Laissez Faire!

I like it, and PorcFest is a great place to test/start it. Many liberty-oriented people will be there, eager to buy products and services from fellow porcupines; and many others will be there wanting to earn a living, freely. It's a fantastic opportunity to network amongst agorists (or anyone labeling themselves any way that are engaging in government-excluded trading).

In addition to T-shirts (so people can spot an OMBA member and ask questions), maybe we could also have a directory or people and the products/services they offer, where they can be located at PorcFest, how to contact them outside of PorcFest, their website, etc.

Interesting idea. Assuming there are enough members who would like to participate in such, I dont see why it cant happen. Obviously a decent percentage of members and products/services offered, would probably not opt in. There are plenty of other pros and cons, I'd say it merits discussion.

So you're interested in being an OMBA?

I'm in, and can think of 2 more folks not on these forums that likely would too. By Porcfest we should have a nice assortment of products.

Great idea, Curtis!

QuoteSlowly but steadily we will move to the free society turning more counter-economists onto libertarianism and more libertarians onto counter-economics, finally integrating theory and practice. The counter-economy will grow and spread to the next step we saw in our trip backward, with an ever-larger agorist sub-society embedded in the statist society.
from New Libertarian Manifesto.

And, in the New Libertarian Strategy section of NLM:
QuoteUnder all circumstances, one recruits and educates. Given typically confused individual acquaintances who consider a counter-economic act, encourage them to do it. If they are intelligent enough and not likely to turn on you, explain risks involved and return expected. Most of all, educate them by your example to the extent you can let them know.

...maybe we could also have a directory or people and the products/services they offer, where they can be located at PorcFest, how to contact them outside of PorcFest, their website, etc.

But a directory might be a bad idea, sadly, since free markets now are suppressed. It's usually a one-on-one kind of recruiting, of necessity.

A directory could be done in a very unconventional and rather secure fashion. For example, individual entries could be separately encrypted and the individual seller would have to give you access (ie trust you) before you could see it. Hence, you could only see the listings of folks who already trusted you, the buyer, or didn't care if they world knows they're selling organic untaxed eggs.

Also, something mainstream like facebook can be leveraged to hide the data in the middle of something unrelated. A facebook app could be made and it could be made to look like a harmless gov-fearing barter network of harmless, taxed or non-gov-taxed items.

There are many options I think for doing business agoristically right under their noses.

I'm confused. Are we talking about not wanting a directory to ensure people we don't know can't learn that we're agorists, and walking around wearing T-shirts that says we're agorists?

There is a major difference between advertising online, and advertising at PorcFest.

Someone left a copy of Abbie Hoffman's Steal This Book at my house some months back, and reading it gave me the idea for a similar (on-line) volume that could similarly advise pocupine types how to acclimate comfortably and live off the grid in New Hampshire.  Advice on moving (with frequently edited sections on the lowest prices and quality of methods, say), on finding work and housing, meeting activists, etc.  Malataur expressed some interest, but I haven't heard from him lately.  If others would like to get going on something like that, I have the editing skills to contribute.

You might want to start a separate thread for this, as it seems to be a separate project altogether.

Agorism is a political theory that advocates counter-economic activity as the quickest and most moral path to a free society. So, you might want to wear a T-shirt advertizing your political philosophy because you want to proselytize. If you're actively involved in the counter-economy, you might not want to advertise that publicly in a directory, but you might want your allies to help vet prospective clients before referral to you.

I'm an Agorist. I understand the philosophy and the goals, the risk-value relationship, et cetera.

I'm also a friggin iconoclast.

I will be a member of the group, whatever it's called. I will produce black and grey market items and offer grey and black market services. I consider "a prospective buyer" to be a good opportunity to expose them to Agorism.

So... First and foremost, I offer proxy service. If someone is interested in performing a "darker market" transaction but doesn't want their identity exposed, I'll provide the middleman.

I'll toss out these two caveats though. 1.) I will only sell guns to folks I know personally. So buy me a beer or offer me a hit from the keg first. My drinking buddies are my best friends.

2.) I will only sell restricted or prohibited drugs to people I know personally. For further instructions, please see #1.

FUCK YEA! Kevin is an OMBA! (I think Oompa Loompa when I see that acronym...)

hhhmmm, maybe I should focus on the Merry Band of Agorists part, and not so much the acronym. Members could be named for characters in Robin Hood. For example, I think Kevin would make a great "Little John" :)

From Diann of The Domes:

QuoteGreetings.

I am implementing an installation within PorcFest 2010; utilizing concepts similar to a Coffee House and Flea Market.

My hopes are to expand the community and network a more diverse group of people who share many common ideals.

The Goals:
a.) Connect/Network
b.) Expand our business and ideas
c.) Rage It

The "Coffee House" aspect is the entertainment.
I plan on having a variety of performances.
Dance, Poetry, Music, Comedy, Fun Auctions, etc.
...And if you/others have any ideas, I'd like to hear them.

The "Flea Market" is looking for independent vendors with things like
food, art, jewelry, instruments, equipment, music, precious metals, gems, machines... whatever it is you sell.
...skills and labor?
...anything that can be bought, sold, or traded.

The idea is to create a free-market, independent from fiat currencies;
utilizing the resources and skills we have to obtain our needs.
Business remains within our communities/networks;
establishing/keeping ties strong especially in times of need.

I'm also open to having a couple tables with some worthy organizations.

The dates for the festival itself:
Thursday, June 24, 2010 at 6:00 am
until
Sunday, June 27, 2010 at 9:00 pm
Lancaster, NH

Please consider. Keep the date.

-------------------------------------------

This is part of the Seventh Annual PorcFest

Do you have some entertaining to do, entertainers to bring, skills, business, free time, or want to simply get down with fun productive people in a beautiful place?

I will supply you with more details upon contact/request.

Thanks and Hopes of your participation,
Diann

A total tip o' the hat to Curtis for getting active and creating an agorist project that he's promoting here.

A total apology for swiping his cute marketing line "Agorists Unite". I was talking to another agorist on Jan 1st and we said "look, there are all these self-identifying agorists here now amongst the FSP movers, let's try to get everyone together for a big chat session, eh? (She's Canadian). Let's create a little flyer to hand out at the other meetings and let's hold it at a central location in the state, because there are agorists on the seacoast and up north, too, so how about right after the Concord Porcs meeting next Saturday. OK, what should it say? How about 'Agorists Unite'? That sounds cool and that guy SovCurtis used that the other day. Sure, OK, go with that. Print something up quick to hand out to the Merrimack Valley Porcs on Jan 2." OK, and away we went, with a last minute run to Kinko's before the MVP meeting. (probably an 18 hour cycle time from start to finish).

So, disclaimer here: My use of the slogan "Agorists Unite" was in no way an intention to usurp SovCurtis' project, and a bad choice for the flyer. Sorry, Curtis. I'll think of something else and re-do the flyer, but several have been released already. Hmm.

We ARE looking for input on how an agorist meeting should be "organized", since I don't really think it should be top-down hierarchical, like a party meeting, with Robert's Rules, and all. If anyone's got ideas, let's move it over to the other thread about the Call to Gather and I'll try to take the Agorists Unite out of the title.

You da man, Curtis!

Thanks Jack. As you mentioned, I was concerned (and contacted you about my concerns privately) that through timing, wording, etc, it appeared as though my idea and the efforts I'd already put into the idea, were being taken over. I was truly concerned about this, as the PFAC idea was not put out there as a "Hey, I have an idea, anyone want to run with this?" kind of idea, but rather as an "I'd like to..." type of idea.

This got me all to thinking about intellectual property with regards to liberty activism in NH, and I guess I drew the line as you see outlined above. IMO in a polite, voluntary society, this is how I would expect to resolve this issue before it becomes an issue. I suppose you could call it the homesteading principle (geez, I go more left everyday, :P)

So I'm sorry for the confusion, Jack. I never meant it to become some public forum drama, I do not lay sole claim to "Agorists Unite",  and I see my karma rating has suffered :) Oh well.

But it was worth it for the little mental exercise regarding my thoughts on ownership (stewardship?)

Aloha Agorists/Ancaps/FreeMarketeers/Etc.

Carla will be convening a PorcFest planning meeting at the upcoming Taproom Tuesday @ Murphy's Taproom, so

I will be taking this opportunity to hold an impromptu meeting of the PorcFest Agorist Co-Operative, after.

So, to all those interested, the first (informal) meeting of the PorcFest Agorist Co-Operative will be this coming Tuesday at Murphy's Taproom, following the meeting of the PorcFest planning committee.

I encourage all those interested to attend, and if you cant, but are still interested in participating,
please offer up suggestions for an online place/site/etc for planning and info sharing, that is at least somewhat private/secure, so everyone can stay informed without having to inform the world.

Greetings all, sorry i missed you all on the 9th and the Apple Buffet, woke up that morning, with a touch of that stomach bug. But, i'll really really try next month.

Is there a mailing list for the PORCFEST or persons to contact ?

Hi, SOVEREIGN CURTIS, nice picture of you with Ron Paul. I had to check out some of Konkin's books, first, before I sprouted off. As, I'm new to the boards, and I probably don't know anybody here personally even though I registered libertarian back in the 80's (before the tweedle dumb and tweedle dumber parties got together to squeeze out an alternative to the same old s___). So let me know if I'm out of line or in the wrong spot.

What I've seen and heard around the heart of the people's republic of new hampshire is not very encouraging, people are leaving in search of work.  Basically, the USS TITANIC is taking on water, and while a few of the sheeple are having second thoughts, an awful lot of people are sitting around waiting for BIG BROTHER to paper the way out of the mess.

I've read that the State of Illinois is 'defacto' bankrupt, and while not totally defaulting on it's bills and bond payments, it just might as well. California too. About 10 states have earned the dubious distinction of verging on 'junk bond status'...

So going by what I read in Faal's PICKING UP THE PIECES and Stud Terkel's HARD TIMES, I'm pretty sure it's probably a good time to suggest a CONTINUOUS ONGOING AGORIST RECYCLING FLEAMARKET...

Why wait for godot ?

From a practical standpoint, I have a digital electronics degree and can sort of fix computers and would be willing to collect any laptops or desktops over 2gh and lcd monitors for reuse. Does anyone have ideas on how some sort of Trading Post might work ?

I'm also sure a lot of folk have wood shops, it would be a bitch, but for someone with sales experience and hustle, such a collective could be productive.

Maybe to a lesser extent, gas guzzlers, but I wouldn't be surprised if in a few years if we see 4 cylinder taxi-trucks going down the road with 20 passengers like in the 3rd world.

thanks all for your time and enjoy the coming shift.  best, Buzz

heh, no prob Kevin (and anyone else who missed the meeting), it was just an informal "howdy do". But tell me, how would you feel about signing up at another forum, to keep up between meetings (and if you aren't yet in NH)? Eh, the site is pretty unused right now, and a separate, private section will be created for Agorists. Would this perhaps be possible here (Kat?)?

TOWARDS AN AGORIST TRADE NETWORK AND CO-OPERATIVE

(excuse the brevity- )

1) Electronic Trading Board

I'm not sure that we need another lame craig's list or variation, but the relative ease and low cost can't be denied.

Services: anybody out there that is available and willing to moonlight should be listing their skills.

Goods: got stuff to get rid of ? got needs and wants ?

2) Micro-Manufacturing

There might be a local demand for some small shop produced or assembled items.

3) Repair and recycling of used goods

This seems to me to present a good opportunity as a way to cut waste, and for people to get more out of less.

4) "garage sale" outlets

There would be too much of a capital outlay, licenses, zoning, and insurance to put a public face on a 'store', but if there are enough people in various locations with some room in a shop or a garage, perhaps a practical and affordable alternate distribution network could be worked out.

A few people coming and going to private spaces one or two days a week to drop off or pick up goods at the 'garage sale' would not likely attract very much attention.

I'm actually doing the first 3 in some form or another in various degrees of failure (no, it's not a living but it keeps me out of trouble), and I might have an angle on #4 this summer.

I wouldn't want to give the illusion that anything done on the internet is private from the government.  They outlaw encryption systems that they can't break.  You could keep it private from other individuals, but what would be the point?

Thanks everyone, I've bookmarked the sites and will get around to registering and giving it some more thought.

"There is already a shire hours https://www.shirehours.com/ (https://www.shirehours.com/)"

This sounds interesting, as one of the problems with barter is it's 'inefficient'. I suppose at some point I will rant on about how live chickens and hands of tobacco were once "legal tender"...

also, one can take a cue from Mises description of economic calculation in a Communist society and check out 'market' rates for various used goods to get a feel for a price.

BTW, shipping prices are OUTA SIGHT, so that's one angle to consider. on the other hand, I've gotten stuff shipped here at a fraction of what others here considered "a good deal".

"Jeremy has offered a private section on the NHTeaParty.org website which he hosts. I've already registered."

Actually, it seems like an okay site. Perhaps when it's 'tall tale' time I go into about my maternal grandmother's family were loyalists during the revolution and ended up in Canada. I do drink red pepper tea, BTW !

It might have potential, I've read of people that get small tractor parts made from these machines.

Offhand, it sounds like a considerable capital investment. Would take up space, and requires a good amount of material inventory. Then you would work like a dog.

Did you look into your potential market ? I'm not saying not to consider it seriously.

Perhaps, I should mention that in a lot of 2nd and 3rd tier countries, from what I've been able to read. some of the temporary market places have a number of folk repairing stuff with soldering irons and hack saws.

I think I was driving at repairing not replacing. things look even more awful for the next years, and it's the old "making do or do without", keeping busy and middling along.

"what encryption system has the US government outlawed?"

i think there was an "asymmetrical encryption" program that the bldg fround on. offhand, you can take a tip from the ciA website and use the spook 'demultiplex' approach. ie, a mix of email, phone, and perhaps radio like CB, FRS and 2 meter. and of course, person to person, away from phones and outlets..

I signed up, to be supportive, and it looks like it has potential. By first I need to read the 'about shirehours' posts again. Offhand I got most of the next year planned to do some labor intensive capital improvements around the homestead and frankly most of my 'DIY' expertise can be summed up in a couple of posts which I'll get to eventually.

If I make any sales this month I try and PAYPAL a dime.

I think I'm going to start a PorcFest Agorist Co0perative fan page on facebook. Everyone (who wants to) can fan it, and the page will give detailed info on how to join and stay in communication.

Any thoughts?

Hola Agorists!

Its time for another face to face meeting of Agorists interested in participating in the PorcFest Agorist Cooperative!

Interested? Still try to decide on a time/date/location.  The availability of those interested will be the deciding factor.

Lots of important stuff to talk about! If you've been paying attention, you'll have noticed that "Agora Alley" has sold out!

Now I need to identify all those interested who wont be camping in Agora Alley. White/gray marketeers deserve the same support

and advertising as those in Agora Alley (more even!). But I need to know they exist to help!

BLACK MARKETEERS, I DEFINITELY need to talk to you!

There was some talk about holding this at Millie's on a Tuesday night. They'll let us rent/reserve their back room for $50. Sound good?
