Title: Secession
Post by: Kat Kanning on November 03, 2005, 01:23 PM NHFT
Alex Jones is interviewing Thomas Naylor who is promoting VT secession.  Naylor started talking about the Free State Project.  Jones said that in 2001, NH almost voted to seceed.  Is that true?  I never heard anything about it.

He was probably talking about towns (or some people) trying to seceed(or talking about it) from the Free State.

Look into "Coalition Communities"

and "T.R.A.S.H. ? which stands for Taxpayers' Revolt Against State Hi-jinks"

Maybe we'd succede at seceding in 5 years, after the hords of Free Staters get there, and we're educated the populace.

I have to agree with ytsvu .... nothing succeeds like secession

I'm sure tired of hearing this out of libertarians....it's soooo arrogant (not to mention ungrammatical).

That's why I prefer the expression "making noise" to "educating people".  It sounds a little more humble.  And when you're persuading people, it doesn't do any good to alienate them.

"I'm going to go out and make some noise over that eminent domain issue."

or ...

"I'm going to go out and educate people about how eminent domain has harmed property rights."

Which sounds better?

What other ways can we express the same ideas without sounding arrogant?

Persuation is between equals, and lacks that tone of condescension.

saying you 'enlightened' someone is REALLY condescending

Not always.

If someone holds an opposite view from yours, and you convince them to see things your way, then it would be condescending to say you've "enlightened" them; that implies that they were inferior without your help.

But if someone simply doesn't know about something, and you make them aware of it, then that is enlightenment. Learning that it's a crime to file someone's nails without a license, for instance, is enlightenment. Learning that homes are being stolen and demolished to build private businesses is enlightenment.

I know. But you know what I mean. We're all friends here right?

Perhaps exemplify is better?
