Title: Burning Porc 2011
Post by: MaineShark on February 25, 2011, 10:46 AM NHFT
Anything going with Burning Porc, for this summer?  Wasn't sure what might or might not be happening, since the Kannings are away...

I have some ideas, but I don't want to step on anyone's toes, if someone else already has it all planned out...

Sorry about that! Yes. It's the week following  Porcfest. we won't have the use of the house and should be respectful of it's in inhabitants. We will have showers and portapotties and electricity(I'm pretty sure).
We are interested on getting feedback on ideas for events. Park your ideas here.

We were talking about spreading out the party to all the different parts of Grafton, so we could handle more people.

Does anyone know where the tarp for my 24 X 12 foot tent is?  It was last used at Jerry's for Appleseed. If we can't find it, we will cancel BP as there will be nowhere for people to congregate when it rains.

I have a (used) 40x60 foot tarp if that would be helpful.  It has a couple holes, but if it was folded in half, you'd definitely have cover.

I also hear that the peaceful assembly church has an area about 50x40 that people can relax in and stay dry. :)

And several tents, if folks need them.

I'll be making up some batches of peanut butter cookies, and peanut butter fudge... Maybe we'll bring some other food too, depending upon motivation. ;-)

I can also do henna body-art on people, if there's interest, let me know in advance, as large designs take time/more materials... Let me know if you'd like to see some examples of my work.

I was trying to get an idea of headcount, considering that I was planning on making some foodstuffs... even if not a specific "I'm showing up," does anyone know how many might be showing up? Thanks!

Post by: jerry on June 25, 2011, 07:24 PM NHFT
I have no idea how many will show up, but I've been handing out notices here at Porcfest and getting positive responses.   At least a dozen said they were definitely going to come.

Jerry-

Thanks for the reply... Since you were handing out notices, is there any sort of schedule that you know of? :-) I have a friend who was considering coming up this week, but was wondering what events might be going on, other than John's offer at the P.A. Church.
Thanks!

This will be a, pretty, much, do it yourself Burning Porcupine Festival. If someone has an idea for an event or trip, post it here and troll for responses.

This is Burning Porcupine Freedom Fest, not Porcfest. We don't need no stinking schedules. ;)

FYI, for anyone looking to attend, a friend has graciously offered a few tents for those who may not have their own camping gear.  Contact me for details.  Similarly, if you want a roof over your head, we have a camper available to rent.

Note: This isn't an attempt to organize a bunch of anarchists, just a means for folks who want to show up somewhere in the middle a way to connect with those who will be around... I'm just copying this from other posts / sites, contact the individuals or groups mentioned for more details on any event, no warranty is implied... :-) If anyone is planning a hike, trip to the lake, etc, let me know and I'll add it to the list, or just reply to the post!

He's scouting out NH (for his family)... Porcfest, Berlin, Grafton, and on.

Small tour of Grafton yesterday. Looked like nothing at all happening at Hoyt by late-afternoon.

Today here are some signs of life at Hoyt.

If there's any interest and an Appleseed instructor shows up we can treck over the mountain to Jerry's Place in southern tropical Grafton (8miles) for a mini-Appleseed.   No instructors?  We can shoot pistols an shotgun some clays.

Cool.
What kind of movie?

We have a large collection... It'll have to be something somewhat child-friendly, as ours will be present. Among our collection of movies are SuperTroopers, Reefer Madness, (V for Vendetta would just be too violent for them), and others... if there's something folks would like to bring along, we can consider other viewing choices as well. :-)

I would like to caution anyone coming that virtually nothing is ready. The area has not been mowed. We can't get the porta potties serviced. Dry firewood is unlikely.

Peaceful Assembly Church (860 Main St. Grafton, Center) is always "kinda ready."  ;D

Family friendly environment.

Cell phone "hot spot" for many plans.

Let us know you'll be around.

Did Cool Morning Yoga today.

Closed from Thursday morning through late Thursday afternoon.

Since part of the point of Burning Porcupine is to introduce folks to the way things are here in Grafton, please remember that Ivy's (weather permitting) pot luck bonfire happens every Thursday night in the summer.

Yes, Ivy does sometimes boil potatoes when it rains buckets, but I'm thinking that is not weather dependent.
And, not sure.

Don't listen to the curmudgeon.

The grass got mowed today.  Two of the4 porta potties are usable.  The firewood is drying nicely.

Excellent potato salad (and other good stuff) last night.
Also, PassionatePantherrr brought some of her peanutbutter fudge. HOW THE HECK did I not have some?

There is more info on BP scattered about on the internet. Too bad its not easier for people to find. :(
Seems like this is the transition year where BP moves out to the broader geographical area know as Grafton.
BP is very non-organized. :)

I'll be going to the town office today to give them a recipe for the latest tax bill which they sent.

I'll return their top copy, which will be marked "Separation of Church and State!" and "Religious Exemption."

It will be a quiet and rather unceremonious event (next year may be different) but, if anyone wants to join me they are quite welcome.

Hey, I'm an eternal optimist.

Their own laws, common sense, and God are all on Peaceful Assembly Church's side. :)

Yup, they knew the song from church. :)

I'll be at Peaceful Assembly Church most of today.

Painting multicolored fence, etc., etc.  ;D

Feel free to stop by.

:sunny:

In years past we've played various games; softball, volleyball, kickball, etc. Is anyone thinking they might be interested in that sort of stuff this year? I'd probably stop what I'm doing and come by for a bit of that.
