Title: Kahn Academy
Post by: CurtHowland on March 14, 2011, 10:08 PM NHFT
This is a great talk by Salman Kahn of the Kahn Academy:

Salman Khan: Let's use video to reinvent education (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nTFEUsudhfs#ws)

While it's presented substantially in the context of a public school, I see no reason why this format and his tracking software could not be used by anyone in any kind of school environment.

I was able to stay home with my daughter until she was 7.5 years old, and she was reading at a 7th grade level by that time, and had been kicked ahead a year to 3rd grade from 1st, in private school, because the teachers said she was so far ahead of everyone else they didn't want her to be bored.

Anyway, there it is. Enjoy. Ignore the arrogant statist in the glasses at the end, he's nobody of any note.

Thank you. Great stuff. Shared on Facebook.

I've looked through the Khan Academy videos, but we haven't used them yet in our home school (JD is just eight), but I already had them in mind for when he moves into more advanced concepts.

Kahn Academy is awesome. William is really enjoying us exploring math.

How many kids do you hear proclaim?
"Yippee we get to do physics!"
