It's that time once again to gather in Grafton, crush apples into cider and have a good time.
We hope to see all the local activists and friends as well as all those who live a bit farther away. Feel free to come on up, down or over and bring a friend or two!
When - Sunday September 25th
Time - bout 11:00 am - til 5:00 pm or so
Where - Peaceful Assy. Church, Rte. 4 Grafton, NH
What - bring apples, a container or two to hold the cider you make and what ever else you can think of
Rumor - Might be a contest for apple related foods....stay tuned more info to follow
;D 8)
yay .... although for me by that time the temperatures around here might be only down into the 90s
I still remember the apple procuring / tree climbing lessons Russell gave at a past Apple fest. It seemed the tree did not want to part willingly with it's apples and bit him back. Carniverous trees may still lurk out there...use caution when gathering apples. ;)
You'll be happy to know he's all healed from the tree bite. ;D
Bob said he would do the climbing this year
you could use the electric truck
Maybe I could belly bop the tree.

You could just
threaten to belly bop the tree, and it would drop the apples in fear.
good idea .... I was thinking of just holding an axe like a cop does a nightstick taser or handcuffs
I will threaten the apples with the law...the law of gravity. :P

Ignorance is no excuse.
If I gain 5 more pounds , I can get the apples to assume planetary
orbit around me, which will be handy on fest day.
So where will this happen?
Yup. Same place and same time this year - Peaceful Assembly Church/last Sept. Sunday.
Planning for the 4th Annual Grafton Apple Festival has begun.
The antique apple press will be worked on and readied.
;D
More info soon.
very cool
I was looking at a picture of Kira and I working the press at the Hoyt Farm .... and we were wearing jackets. It has not been below 75 degrees here since May.
This is the only one I can easily find. I think I am tasting the first cider to pour out at GAF one. Jerry Lynch squeezing. I remember thinking how Cool it was that unlike Beer, Soda and other things, you didn't have to wait. You put apples in and you get cider out. I also liked how each different type of apple made a different flavored cider, some sweet, some tart, but all just like some cider that I'd had before.
makes my mouth water
Sounds really fun - I don't know yet what my work schedule will be, but I don't see why I couldn't come for part of it. I have a lot of memories of using a cider press, picking apples where I lived in Maine, etc. I'm looking forward to it, and to visiting Grafton again.
You could bottle it and sell it as "Liberty Sunshine". :D
Do you have a facebook page for this event? I like to be able to organize my planned events on there whenever possible, but if not I'll just have to track it separately.
Thanks for the reminder. I've been busy... I'll try to get busy with this next week.

Might as well your already bringing a giant Vermont nut.
The machine is working great. I've already squeezed about 5 gallons, 2 and 1/2 of which are fermenting on my counter.

Are you bringing some of that? :-o
Won't be done in time. Just as well:)

Good job Lloyd!!
have you gotten a frost yet to really sweeten things up?
meanwhile it was 97 today
Yesterday I went to Jerry's early in the morning. When I swung myself into my car there was ice on the doorway, and when I got to Jerry's the front lawn was white with frost.

Lloyd sucks, even more.
Hey! Lloyd's shiver'in!
I should be all moved in the day before, I'm looking forward to this event and to spending some time with my friends and new neighbors :)
We told our friends here in Corsicana (who used to live in Keene, NH) about the event and they were also shocked that Grafton used to not have a themed festival before Graffy inspired the apple festival by being spotted in an apple orchard next to the pond.
Wow, I remember Grafton frosts... It's still early in the year for that!
I'm still complaining that my basement is too hot. :P
I'm thinking we needed a little extra hose to reach the press last year. Am I remembering correctly? Can someone please bring extra? Thanks.

Extra ho's? That's what I been sayin' this liberty movement needs! Oh wait you meant...okay I'll bring an extra hose.
We need disposable cups for sampling the cider. We might need some cheese cloth or clean, 5 gallon paint straining bags.
Now he tells us.
I am getting excited .... and I will attend if I am invited on Facebook.
;D
Shhhh, the mad baker is working her magic in the kitchen. Cursing over the exploding butter, is just part of the creative process. If I don't make eye contact I might survive to see ya'll today.
I waved when I drove passed today, does that count as "Attending"?
Becky's French Apple Cake was well received. :D 8)
I know I'm prejudiced, but that is some tasty stuff.
Nice to see folks, thanks for hosting John. Thanks to the whole cider press operators crew, tasty apple and pear cider. William enjoyed working the thing. Had some hard cider that was nice. Beautiful weather.
It was good to see you guys
Sorry to my friends whom I could not assist as I was very busy with this. I'm hoping you understand.
Thanks to all who helped pull this event together.
AWESOME day at Peaceful Assembly Church:
Successful 4th Annual Grafton Apple Festival was preceded by regular Sunday service which developed into spirited discussion about which to defend if given only two options - Life or Morality.
Discussion stopped only to final prep for Apple Fest 4.
Visitors to this year's Apple Festival came from all around Grafton, the Upper Valley, Northern NE, Southern NE, NY, and one woman from Florida who's dad grew up here and who's aunt is thinking about moving back. FUN was had by ALL!
ALL good folks. :-)
THANKS to all who participated!
I'm pooped.
Everyone, even the ex-prez, was put to work grinding and pressing apples.
Evan offered free rides on his electric trike.
While the kids worked the apple press the adults(?) took over the playground.
The star of the show. Side view of the apple grinder/press.
How about shrinking those images?

Sorry about that. I thought the forum software automatically resized pictures.
They are all 800X600 pixels now.

I had a great time , good to see a lot of folks.
Thanks to Lloyd, Jerry, John and all for their hospitality.
Glad ya came!
Thanks to John for hosting and Lloyd for the use of the cider press he built as a young man 100 years or so ago.

C'mon, now, that's just a nasty rumor!
He was a grown man at the time.
so PatK would you say that the Grafton Apple Fest might be one of the best events for out of staters to visit in the Shire?
Sure, but all the events with the fine folk
of the shire are good.
Sorry I couldn't come, it was also the last day of the Rochester Fair, and I had to start a new week back to work that night as well, otherwise I definitely would have done the drive out there because I would have been able to stay for more than an hour or two.
I am now living in Rochester, so I knew I wanted to catch that major annual event in the town I would shortly be living in.
What is the next major event in Grafton, so I can try to make it over there again?
