Please don't go to work for Schneider (Big Orange, the trailers flying through the air). They govern all their trucks below the speed limit.
No Schneider. CR England.
I've heard England is pretty good.

So when is your first cross-country trip to New Hampshire? :D
Well, now only Russell is going to school. I graduated today.
Russell's looking into a NH dedicated run, so we'd keep going back to NH each week.
did we tell you the story about a trucking recruiter we were talking to?

Is Kira going on the road with you?
And, reading between the lines, did the recruiter think Kira was only 12?
exactly
I am trying to talk Kira into going to nursing school. She seems more cut out to help old people than to drive the big truck like Kat. She can be around to help Kat's parents when they don't feel that great.
So we have been on a crazy roller coaster with getting started truck driving. We had trouble getting a place that was ok with both Kat and I. She is new to the game and I have not had my license from 2002 until January. Different places had a problem with us. Now we are all set up at the same place .... my old employer.
On my side .... California lowered my child support payments and lifted the suspension on my license. So now we can go be empty nesters and run around the country hauling food and making dough.
LOL, Kira looks young, but not 12.
On the other hand, I totally understand: Sarah is 22, but on any given day/makeup/mood/dress combination, she can look anywhere from 13 to 29.
Nursing is good. Nate is probably leaving the Army, and I hope he gets his RN when he does. He'd be good at it for all the same reasons that I suggested he change MOS to Combat Medic: he's smart, empathetic, reads people well, and sees right through any BS claims.
I'm glad they lifted the hold on your license. Suspending driving and/or professional licenses is the modern equivalent of debtor's prison: you can't ever get out of it with their foot on your neck, and they'll keep their foot on your neck until you get out of it.
Any time I see a big red rig going through on I-30, I'll wave and hope it's y'all. If you see a big red GMC conversion van near Texarkana or Shreveport, you'll know it's me. We'll be sporting Ron Paul and Porcupine stickers, and nhfree.com. :)

Heh, PatK, Russell would like that first truck in the video. He's Volvo-crazy :)
Cool!
our 1st trainer wanted us off his truck every day, so we came here and into a hotel
when he told his side of the story .... he was lectured by the head of training ... they don't have any problems with us
so now we are waiting for another trainer
What was the trainers problem?
Well, part of it was he and Russell just couldn't communicate. Russell would ask a question and the guy would act like Russell was questioning his judgment or authority or something, when Russell was just trying to get information. The guy wound up telling CREngland lies about us that were easily verifiable to not be true, so he got into trouble with them. So we're just waiting for a new trainer. Russell's in heaven right now cause he found several automatic Volvos on the lot, so we might be able to lease one in a month, when we're done training.

Just curious...
Did your GPS/map/traffic/whatever tell you to take the loop around the south side, or 59 to 30 and then east?
I get calls from truckers wanting directions all the time, and most don't seem to know the loop exists.
We were just going straight across 30 from Dallas this time. Didn't see any loop.

Ah, okay. I thought you were probably coming back up 59.
When you took exit 220 on Thursday, that was the western end of the loop. If you hadn't gotten off at the 59 South exit, it would have carried you around the south side of town and back to I-30 on the Arkansas side.
Like I said, I get 2-3 calls a week from drivers looking for directions, so I was just curious what the truck-driving GPS stuff says.
Ah, we don't have one yet. They cost a couple hundred dollars.

A long time ago, a guy I know would tell stories about driving this truck through certain parts of NYC. Merchandise "fell off the back of a truck", because while they were stopped in traffic, someone would run out with bolt cutters, cut the locks off, then hop in back and start tossing stuff for his buddies to pick up.
Before entering the city, he would stop and pick up a hired guard to ride shotgun. Literally, riding in front with a shotgun. They couldn't stop the thieves, but they weren't getting the truck.
Here's yer Bronx, Pat K!

Hopefully we will be with landstar in a month so we can choose our loads so we can visit the nh underground.:-)
Nice weather in TX.
Stormy in the Midwest. And now back in Dallas.
We're in the Axis of Evil tonight. :'(
Headed to Methuen MA Monday.
Methuen
almost to the nh boarder
If we make it early maybe some folks would like to visit? We'd buy dinner Sunday night.
It might make sense for us to stay at the info center or a truck stop on Londonderry.

Wow, would you have that much money? :)
Lauren and I would go over there to see you guys.
I expect this Sunday to be quite busier than usual here at Peaceful Assembly Church, and I will likely be too tired for the drive at the end of a long day. :(
But as Judy Tennuta would say, "It could happen."
I WILL be there in spirit. ;D
We will stay over by Springfield so we'll have a place to park. MAss is kinda skinny on truck stops. Here's the truck stop we'll show up at:
Pride AM Best Travel Center x6 off MA turnpike I90 at I291 Chicopee, MA It's approx. 75 miles from Keene. 363 Burnett Road, Chicopee, MA
We will be there by 3pm at the latest. Russell's phone number is 795-269-7551.
So if anyone wants to make the drive, we'll pick up the tab on dinner! :)
We will arrive some time around 5p.
Very cool
We are on track for about 1:30 :-)
Our rule is we go to your favorite restaurant and buy. :-)
So it could be everything from lobster to be any cheesy goodness.
We would have loved to come visit... however landscaping work and Becky's not feeling well prevent us from coming down.
We will come back sometime with better timing and more warning.
We are buying an old truck and signing on with a new company where we choose the loads. So soon we will come and go and have off time in NH. :-)

Sounds great. :) we in Berkshires now
oh, we're in a green TransAm truck, number 71911
Sure was good to see Jim and Lauren again! Sorry they had to sit in a traffic jam to get down to us, though.
We found out again last night that Jim and Lauren are two of the coolest people in the world. :-)

It was nice to talk with you yesterday, Russell. Wish we could have come down to see you and Kat. We'll make it the next time. :)
We had to sit in a one hour traffic jam on the way down. The emergency services were off loading liquid from an Army tanker, on I-91.
It was well worth it to see you guys again. :)
Keep safe. We'll see you again next time.
We will come up sometime this summer. :-)
Headed to CA now
Sounds like we're hired at Landstar :) Russell's studying for his drug test. The truck we were buying fell through, so no flames! Russell's maybe already found another one though.
No flames. :(
I know. I had to cry over there. We were going to be supertruckers. :_fire__by_zacthetoad:

Exactly
It's got a beer refrigerator!
Right now we have a 53 foot beer refrigerator.
Out of curiosity, are you allowed to refuse to deliver particular shipments, when working for a typical trucking company, if the content violates your personal beliefs? For example, could you refuse to deliver equipment to an abortion clinic since you are adamantly pro-life, or refuse to deliver a shipment of ammunition to a police station, or somesuch?
Company drivers are supposed to take what they get, but in reality, you could refuse the load without repercussions. Right now we're lease drivers and can refuse any load. Where we're going, we will chose all our loads, so of course, wouldn't take any military loads or loads to abortion clinics.
The worst load I heard about was billed as "Medical Supplies" but was at -10, which is unusual for drugs. They tried to make the driver unload it. The way I heard the story, he walked away, leaving his truck even. It was dead bodies, I guess for medical research. A lot of times you don't know exactly what you're hauling until you go to unload it. Who knows if this story is true though.
:) Kat & Russell,
thats a good lookin, love that color, truck I just passed my cdl A and am a certified licensed trator trailer driver however until i take care of my pendig legal issues i cant even apply for driving jobs but if all goes right i will be set to go on the road truckin in december I hope to be off fed. probation by then and have my current charges dropped or atleast not pursued by a superior grand jury its been 40 days now and i hear they have 90 days, im keeping my fingers crossed. keep on truckin. firecracker Joe
Great news, firecracker! What do you think you'll do when the feds let go of you? Got a company in mind, or doing more like you were before?
Oh, can you do local driving just in NH, firecracker?
We didn't get the blue truck either :'(

Will get plates and decals today.
We interrupt this thread with a special news bulletin!
Rumor has it your old blue van at HOYT wants to have the plates removed so it can move on and become one with the scrap pile and help your Burning Porc Homies out. We've tried telepathic and e-mail communication, but couldn't find the right frequency.
Can you confirm that 'tis okay to send the van to the great scrap yard in the sky?
(Lloyd already told us to scrap his and donate the proceeds to Burning Porc expenses....you don't want to be one upped by a curmudgeon do ya?)
Sure
i have stuff in the van. 4X4s, some tools, etc.
There's a cooler in Lloyds van, if the mice haven't eaten it feel free to use it .
Thanks Kat / Russell. Thanks Lloyd. :thanks:

Keene buffet for lunch with Jim and Lauren
For anyone trying to catch us.
Got to have a nice visit with the Kannings. :)
Keene Buffet with the Keeniacs was nice. Although Johnson insisted on insulting my master cylinder. :-\
Ya see now, this what I have to put up with.
Johnson, you've got 50 years of repair experience, can you take a look a my car?
Why yes, I'd be happy too. Your clutch master cylinder is bad.
Johnson your an idiot. Some guy, who couldn't speak English, told me that it was OK.
Why the fuck did you ask me then?
I needed to tell someone that they're an idiot.
Glad I could help... I'm telling your wife... that you need a new master cylinder.
So now, someone is buying a new master cylinder... and it's all my fault?
Oh, I don't know...that's pretty low, insulting someone's master cylinder. :o
It was great seeing Tom + Becky, Jim + Lauren :D I hope Becky feels better! Thanks for hauling us around :)

I wish I could get that one replaced as easily as the clutches master cylinder. ;D :-[ :'(
Of course Johnson is right... I just wish his bedside manner was a little more sensitive... "Ah sorry pal we got to rip that thing out, I know you might think it'll get you by a little longer, but I really don't feeling like having to come rescue you when it lets you down all the way." (I'm talking about the clutch master cylinder here of course... Johnson ain't replacing my prostate... we ain't that kind of good buddies!) ;D

We've got some problem with our truck. Russell put in a fuel treatment and now the truck is sluggish, struggling up hills like we're under a heavy load, but we're light. It's hard to get it to 55 miles per hour a lot of times.
Gunk or water in the fuel system, perhaps.
Wishing you good luck out there.

That sounds like a very typical fuel filter problem.
Yup, I had the same issue when I switched to biodiesel - it cleaned the tank really well, and all of the tank crud ended up in the fuel filter (brand new filter went to totally plugged within two tanks of fuel).
Now that it's clean, I haven't had the same problem again. And I get to say that my fuel comes from New Hampshire, instead of the Middle East or somesuch.
Thanks guys. We were going to try the fuel filter first.
I hope all is well.
We made it to Missoula. :) I went up 2 mountains at 15 mph ::)

Back in the day when the real curmudgeon was still kicking....he'd have said "it took me 15 minutes to get it up back when I was 55." Then he would fall asleep in his chair.
So, Kat, did you guys get some zip back in your diesel or is it still tired?
Poor Lloyd.
We were about due for an oil change/pm, so Russell just had the Volvo guys do it....it's with them now.
Yea I didn't know they replace both filters normally. We shall see.

Faulty alternator
Faulty voltage regulator (which may or may not be built into the alternator)
Broken wire between the alternator and the batteries
you are correct sir
It was the alternator and we had the cheaper one to replace. :)

we spent the last 2 days going over the colorado rockies in a new way

Did you go to Casa Bonita (http://www.casabonitadenver.com/)? Yes, it's a real place! South Park did not even exaggerate. Just like with their show about Mormon's, no exaggeration was necessary for it to be hilarious.
that is in Denver .... haven't been there since 86
people are talking about Fall online .... it is 97 here in Dallas every day :(
new truck (1999) is almost ready to go .... government paperwork always takes a while
our new trailer (2005) has already done its first run :)
we won't make it to the Grafton Apple Festival, but I am trying for Keenevention.

We'll miss you at the Apple Festival. It was fun seeing you both last year.
I have been avoiding the Evil Empire state for almost a year now. They nailed me (I think that was the Landstar Compliance department guys words) when I left in November last year.
But I won't be able to stay away too long. Our problem this fall is that Kat keeps needing to be in Texas.
This is the best time of year to visit ..... bummer. The orange trees in Utah don't hold up to the Shire. :)
nice here in Vegas today
it was getting really hot out west for a few days, but we still almost froze to death on Vail pass :)
the new snow looked great in central Utah and over the 2 passes in Colorado.
Now we have been in Texas for a few days and it finally get under 70 degrees. You know you are in trouble when the record high is recorded for the month of October.
just when you think you might be making headway towards Dallas .....
... Record daily maximum snowfall set at Amarillo...
A total of 11 inches of snow fell at Amarillo yesterday... January 21st.
This breaks the old record of 4.9 inches set in 1966.
and I don't think they believe in snowplows there. :(

One more reason why we left Texas for NH.
80 one day, 20 the next, freezing rain, tornadoes... my azaleas would bloom 4-5 times between October and May, constantly confused.
the weather is nice now ... next off to NM
wearing shorts today in west texas

wearing shorts today in west texas
A co-worker had to wear his "long shorts" today, because it was single digits, subzero windchill, and snowing sideways.
Another co-worker's daughter was wearing thin little strappy sandals last week with six inches of slush on the ground.
some people are just "nuts"

Little known fact regarding the influence of Neal Peart and RUSH, Stefan Molyneux came to libertarianism due to a roommate turning him onto the band.

Russell, you are such a braggart ;)
It was a little warm down there.
Now we are dodging the storm that will bring ice and snow to Texas.
Tomorrow we will be bracing for snow in the corner of NV, CA, and AZ. They handled that so well on our way back from SoCal last time. :(
I did a crazy thing last week .... I chose to drive way over the mountains in Colorado on I-70 to avoid this.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IxlvxvG8zOE
We made it from Reno to Chicago ... and we only 4 hours late. The roads in wyoming and colorado have been closed off and on for 3 days.

Wow that's some weather... been awesome here. Spring is going full tilt boogie here.
Be safe on the road.
kinda crazy ... many places like in the video only had 3 inches
we drove through about 6 inches, but with plowing it was melting, since it hasn't been that cold out there.
we are in Leominster Mass right now. We are picking up in Northhampton Mass on Monday.
We will be able to bobtail up to NH on Saturday or Sunday to visit people.
If you would like to get together with us somehow, let me know so we can work something out.
