I suggest Fun for next year.

So what is the point of BP?
I was thinking that it was to attract some decent folks to Grafton. If that makes sense to the rest of you. Let's go. :-)
Some ideas:

Events/days hosted at different locations around town.

- Jerry's
- Peter's
- peaceful assembly church

Who else wants to host?

John mentioned that the camp place on main street is friendly and maybe we can see what his place is like.

Kat and I are planning on being there, but we will rely on you guys for most of thee prep.

Oh yea jerry was picking the date.

Tom, Jeremy and I were discussing the date for 2014 and decided that the day after Porcfest didn't work out too well.

The Bardofest people are thinking of moving their date to July 4th (as yet unconfirmed) and we thought that making Burning Porcupine at the end of July would spread events out nicely.

Unfortunately that doesn't align with the full moon.  Suggestions?

Is there something wrong with having it during Peeping Season?

I know the point of Burning Porc is to be exactly like Porcfest and Bardofest, but the Fall can be nice in New England.

Won't it be a little chilly for campers?

We also have the Grafton Applefest the last Sunday in September.

August or sept would be nice
Why not before the apple fest?
When we choose a date I will start advertising. :-)

Stop bringing all the bad stuff about Grafton... It's always chilly or damp in Grafton.

Annnd... I don't think four hours on an afternoon should be called a festival, especially if there is no parade.

But I guess if you're going to call it a 'fest', it's not really a festival.  It can't be an 'apple party' either since its at the church.  Maybe you could call it an 'apple social', then you guys could probably handle a social and a fest because neither of those are very big.

"Come for Grafton's Apple Social and stay for Burning Porc."

Now look, look, look here.... a roasted pig with an apple in it's mouth as the feature meal event.... I know, fucking genius, right?

I was away for work... we were feeling bad about not being able to make it to Grafton to visit with our friends. Hope everyone had a good time.

Being that we have friends and a connection to Grafton, building houses for Porcs, spending time with people we have connected with over the years... makes this post difficult.

We just found out who the featured speaker (http://www.burningporcupine.org) was, and I must say I'm disappointed and am concerned about the judgement of that decision.

Many folks seem to feel the gooberment is the biggest threat we face. At times people have gotten worked up about the threat of alphabet soup agency attack.

Infiltration and disruption from within is a more likely scenario... We have had dividers and problem people orbiting the NH freedom movement before. Several times I was in the position of warning people, many times having to defend and prove to their satisfaction the danger I sensed. Pretty much to a person my concerns proved out.

From Powerchuter to the latest idiot to be involved, I believe the worst enemy is likely to be the Cantwells and other hate filled attention whores who claim to be our fellow travelers. Libertarians are often a myopic bunch and can get caught up in one issue arguments like "freedom of expression" and ignore the whole story. Like drunken rages, fist fights, bullying of women, etc. which old Chris is guilty of. His landlord waving a shotgun around at PorcFest and threatening people who called him on his unsafe behavior. Don't be surprised when the gun rubbers see violence as the answer to most problems. Focusing on the abuses and tactics of our overlords, can lead to us taking on those same traits.

Ultimately the psychology that is most often behind anger is fear. Letting go of as much of that fear as possible makes a person less angry and ultimately leads to being able to persuade others that you are on a better path. Perhaps, then, they will join us as well.

The bottom line is I hope it is a matter of being unaware rather than a lack of wisdom. We don't want anything that further distances families like mine from participating.

To summarize...
Lots of intellectualizing about the NAP. The belief that the NAP is enough to build a community around, ridiculous. Makes me question if this social experiment has any chance of working.

Missing the forest for the trees, a sometimes raging drunk whose reckless behavior causes division. Caused good activists to withdraw from participating until finally he was kicked out of the KAC. Still being a dividing force and yet still promoted because he is "edgy".  ;D

Conversations regarding his behavior towards valued members of the liberty community, to include intimidating women who I wouldn't trade for 10 of his kind.

The NAP is the absolute bare minimum to not be considered a criminal in a libertarian's eyes. It doesn't make you beyond criticism in all other respects.

You can be massively destructive to a movement without aggressive violence. Hell, you can without any violence at all. This is what they mean by vulgar libertarians.

I guess he will be getting his "free speech".
When I looked at his website a year ago ... he didn't seem like a person who I would want to hang out with.
I don't remember us having speakers at the beginning .... maybe just friendly people doing the Alt Expo with our friend Jack. :)
Maybe John will have to host the friendly loving people at the church. :)
