Title: Varrin on the chalking conflict

Nicely said, Varrin. It makes me nervous that Free Keene has another victim in their midst knowing that victims are a precious resource in political and cultural movements and therefore the incentive exists to cultivate that resource. The momentum toward further martyrdom remains strong.

It is a well written piece by Varrin. The format is better on his blog, Varrin's World (http://sugargroup.net/varrin/violence-in-keene/)

Varrin's World... Party-time excellent!! Apologies to Wayne's World.  ;D

The tit for tat nature of this conflict is silly and potentially dangerous. It's one thing to want to chalk, but the business of chalking smiley faces as someone else is washing them away... why, what is the purpose?

I think it was a showdown over ownership of the commons. The SFK people believe they own the commons, and the FK people were insisting no one does.

It's an important philosophical point, but not one that will be settled with either chalk or buckets of water -- especially when the buckets are wielded by angry drunks.

Looks more like a pissing contest... with the cost being Rich Paul back in prison and a young man seriously injured.
