Title: any geeks want to help keep this forum working
Post by: Russell Kanning on April 08, 2018, 03:29 PM NHFT
I don't have enough time to keep things going.
If we have a couple more people willing to help, maybe Kat can give you a password and we can fix a couple of things.

I need a way to let people sign up for an account, without having to wade through 1000s of bots.

I would be willing to spend some time on it, but I cannot promise big swaths of time but I could do some.

Well. If you start processing the New Member, pending applications using LIFO instead of FIFO, you surely could accomplish something with very little effort.

OK, you made me a moderator, now what, when I logged on everything other than the messages themselves is in a foreign language.  By that I do not mean that it is in geek speak, I mean it is literally in a foreign language. Now I will "posto" it.

when I went to your profile the other day the language said "albanian"
I thought .... I guess she likes a challenge, so I left it that way.
I must have bumped that button while I was looking at that page.
So now I changed it to English.
That should work better.

FWIW, once the log in screen returned, my log ins immediately were "timed out" for over a day.  Then, when  I saw that the Administrator had successfully logged in I hacked a little, and changed my log in interval from 240 minutes to stay always logged in.  That obstacle may be afflicting others.

It looks like either you and I are the only two who have "figured this out", or maybe I am the only one who has, while you don't need to because the login time constraint might not apply the same way to administrators as it does to rank-and-file members.

from the beginning
I used to push the little button that says "stay logged on" or something like that

But most others don't, as evidenced by the fact that when I look as the Users Onlne stat's I typically see a dozen or more guests, but only one or two logged in users. Many may not even be aware of that Profile feature.

I lost my log in capability for a day, but just now got it back.  I don't have the wherewithal to verify this experimentally, but I think that the log in windows that are the ones incorporated into the home page that a visitor sees, at the top of the home page and the bottom, do not work, but I got in by instead clicking the "log in" button just below the upper log in window, which took me to my dedicated log in page - the one located on the middle of that page - and clicked, "stay logged in", or however exactly it is written, and now I'm in.

But to reiterate, the two, log-in windows on the visitor accessible home page still do not work,  I have to call up a dedicated log-in page to log in, and I have been erasing the default value of minutes and checking the stay logged in box.

I could log in at the top of the forum but now it doesn't work
I have to click the log in link
it pulls up the page with only 1 function and I can log in

Well, can you at least process their registrations so we'll have someone to play with?

Seriously, if you don't have the in-house resources available to repair the log in, can't you just reload the board software?  My Firefox was acting up terribly the other day, so I just "uninstalled" and reinstalled it and now it works just fine.

So. what's happening with the "20,000 people to New Hampshire" thing?  Is that one in limbo, too?

It's dwindled down to 100 movers a year since 2016. Only 176 years until the goal is met!

you can talk to them at porcfest and liberty forum
you can go to monthly meetings .... and all the spur groups that have cropped up :)
