Title: KFP - major draw to Keene
Post by: FTL_Ian on March 10, 2006, 01:39 PM NHFT
Beyond the fact that Keene has already attracted some of the best activists, I must say that the existence of the KFP is another major reason to move to Keene.  It really feels like it's becoming the hub for Liberty activism!

Thanks again guys, and keep up the good work.

I didn't even make it thru one article. I felt like it was stuff I have read before. I should probably try to read it before the KFP burn  ;)

But I did look at the picture/advertisments. It looks like the graphics were made to be to be displayed on a monitor. You should up the resolution of graphics for printing. It looked like they had a bunch of jpeg distortion. The fire graphic on the front page was ok, but almost every other graphic could use work.

There was also a mistake on the LSF stuff on the back. It said something about filing applications for 2005, and gave dates in 2006.

I also think the ad rates are too expensive. Over $300 for a full page ad seems like to much.

Since I have obviously not seen the print version, I can't comment.  Your tips are good ones though, generally 200 dpi - 300 dpi is acceptable for print, and jpgs should be set to the bare minimum of compression.

If an advertiser sends a pic that is questionable, they should be alerted.  I suggest couching it in terms of "we want your ad to look as good as possible, so I'd like to make a suggestion..."

In regards to the rate, it's always good to go a little high so you can negotiate down.  That said, I wonder how their rate/circulation compares to the Sentinel's.

Senor Muerto Presidente:

It sounds like a lot of stuff you have read before because you are very active on this forum.

For many people, this will be the first they've heard of Kat and Russell's arrest, for instance.

Yes, I don't think the KFP's intention is to preach to the choir!

I've upped the resolution for all the graphics.

We have a new member to this forum because of the Keene Free Press ....... HappyDude.

We are trying to turn Keene into the prime activist landing point.
You FTLive guys would like it here in Keene. It is not as expensive as some places, but has it's own personality and charm.

I thought there was a different freedom paper in Southeast NH.

I'm looking at several properties.  I must say KFP + the "star" activists in the area are a big attraction.

The flooding is a bit concerning though... will have to be careful about checking on properties' propensity for that.

That's fairly easy to check.  We can tell you which areas flooded, also.

While it is always good to think ahead, that flooding in SW NH was a 25 year event.

Next time it will flood in a different area of NH.
I would worry less about Keene than a hurricane in Tampa.

Yeah, Keene is definitely the place to move to because of all the freestate allstars.  The KFP is a great  startup paper that I think will change the flavor of the city of Keene from the college town mindset to that of a rebellious area hell-bent on demanding its birth right of liberty. Well done Kat, Russell and all the contributors.

What we need is someone on the inside of police headquarters.

I'm thinking less and less about joining the police force, maybe a jail. The Keene city police captain tells me there is an extensive background check and polygraph examination which would definitely out me as a anarcho-capitalist plus much more.

Keene is a unique NH place.  Known for its very wide main street and pumpkin shows is nice, but not the real reason it's found to be attractive.  It's somewhat isolated in a part of the state that has no major arteries.  You can't get there from here (or anywhere).  Because of that, it has very little population change.  Residents are almost 100% white Euro decendents; almost a Galapagos for humans.  Free to evolve unencumbered by transient influences.

This perhaps why this place is becoming a magnet for a new way of thinking.  It is a petrie dish left off by itself undisturbed.  What will emerge in 20 years?

It may be up to many on this forum.

So inbreeding is what makes Keene special?  ;D

And Kentucky!  Let's not forget about the Inbreeding in Kentucky.  Or West Virginia.  Hey, does Max know about this, he might want to start another FSP in one of these two states.  ;)

Yes.. I am refocusing my housing search there.   :icon_pirat:

I had originally been interested in Keene but was looking at other options, now there doesn't seem to be any reason to move elsewhere.

Nice job, you guys.

How about the fucking high taxes?  There are places where you can pay half the property taxes.

I don't pay high property taxes here in Keene. You don't have to either. :)

Maybe one reason why I want to go is to join the property tax revolt?  I think it's sad that no one else has had the courage.

Of course, I'll likely have to pay a portion of them in order to buy a house (not sure how real estate transactions work up there, but after I settle in...

You pay a nice chunk up front.
And a NH RE tax.
