First Saturday of the month, 11:00.
Murphy's Taproom
Manchester, NH
From Joel:
Jenn and Billy Coffey will be visiting the Free State next Saturday
from MA. They will be joining us at the MVP Meeting at noon, Millie's
Tavern, 500 Commercial St, in Manchester. Hope everyone can come out
and meet and greet these fellow Porcupines!
Milly's with a Y. :)
LOL, I just cut/pasted. :)
Man what a turnout...there must have been 50 people there. :D
There were so many visitors from far (2-LA,2-VA) and near (3-MA) 8)
There was also a new mover from AK...he says he likes the warm February weather here in NH ;D
46 plus a whole bunch of porcupine pups.

Yea ....I like our spot in Keene...good for kids ....not too crowded...they can handle our food orders :)
I don't think that they're gonna move their meetings to Keene, Russell. It would be nice, however...

Chuckie who....No, No I know Chuckie....Believe he is out west trying to make those folks life miserable!
One of my favorite things he ranted about....No one in NH wants to get involved??? ???
So thankful he is gone! :)
Ack!!! Why did you have to remind me about that guy! >:(
So, are we still going to have the meeting at Milly's today? Does anyone know if there is a new location yet?
Nope, still at Milly's this month. I think this is the last month at Milly's though. Does it seem like we just had a meeting to anyone else? Eesh.
Joel wasn't going to change the meeting until they voted at one of the meetings...we will have to find out what happened today. :)
room fees? what ever happened to spending big bucks on 40 meals?
...I like the setup that DaveM has on the Seacoast...those folks (little Mincin lingo there) are happy to see a big bunch of paying customers each month. :D
....our pizza place in Keene doesn't even notice that we are there...just more customers 8)
Some places gotta make their money in different ways. Milly's did a great job today. Hopefully next month, we can pack out the front of the restaurant.
Joel, Amy Karl and I were at Jillian's yesterday and checked out the room they have for renting and it's not really as big as what Milly's is now offering. The good points to the room are closing doors and a projector you can probably hook up to a laptop and use for presentations, but for 100 that's still not worth it IMHO. I like the idea of sticking to Milly's right now. At least we know what the options are when and if Milly's can no longer meet our needs.
So how did this months meeting go?
I wasn't QUITE as packed as last month, but it was still a pretty good crowd. I would say 35-40 people were there. One issue was brought up by a guy dealing with Child Custody rights. He was very informative and we were all very understanding and sympathetic to his plight. NHcustody.org is the site about it. They are really fighting to get HB529 through, which would make the courts give a REASON for why they chose one parent over another and it gives fathers more rights with thier kids. I'm in full support of keeping fathers in the lives of Kids, so it's something I'm going to be keeping an eye on.
We went over town meetings people attended and the two bills brought up that I had a personal interest in were the afor mentioned HB529 and SB579.
We will stay at Milly's next month and use the front room, sevice this meeting was better than last and they are free, we all know where it is and so on, so we'll give that a try.
We also had a pair visiting from the UK and they asked a lot of tax questions. From what I gathered, the FSP doesn't have a state a state Tax and Fee worksheet for potential movers. They really should, to prepare people for what they can expect coming here. You know, what taxes NH does levy, the current property taxes for the major metro area's such as Nashua, Manchester and Concord, things like that. Car registration fees, inspection fees, how long you have to do both, a basic, this is what you need to do when you get here guide. Especially for out of country people, not that we get many, but it would be handy to have one for those who want one.

OK, I made a wiki page for this. Please add info as you see fit. I added some questions I have.

Rhelwig,
I read your wiki page and some of your previous posts. Just what is your objection for problem with being responsible for your dog's shit in the public area?

Rhelwig,

Well, I generally think of a dog's shit the same as I think about breath exhalation - they're natural processes that can't be stopped and don't do any harm. Picking them up is not only gross, but removes the helpful fertilizer the dog so thoughtfully placed.
Besides, it discriminates against dogs with owners - non-"owned" dogs don't have to clean up after themselves :D
If people really cared, they'd make peeing the offense, not poop. Dog pee can cause discoloration - poop just makes the ground better suited for foliage.
Finally, there should
be no public areas, but then you already knew that ;)

I agree with you on this.
Man what happened to the meeting thread ;)
Went to the dogs.
So....meeting is at millie's tavern in Manchester, april 30 noon?
We are planning on it 8)
Me too! Breakfast? Keene? Peterborough? Wilton?
Good question....we should plan a whole day including the Amy packup 8)
We'll be there, in case anyone wants to donate books for the Liberty Scholarship fund fundraiser :)
The Amy move is the primary reason I am coming. Breakfast?
How about Peterborough Diner, 9:30? Then the Peterborough people can join us if they like.
I can have a big breakfast at the Diner and then just a "snack" at Milly's before we hump boxes 8)
....and think...you like to watch.....
So can you make the meeting this month in Manchester el presidente?
Man...sounds like you're propositioning our illustrious preseidente.
yea...he can help move a porcupine friend 8)
I'm pretty sure I can find Peterborough, how obvious will the diner be?
It's downtown. There's a map on their website.

....so new location?
New location this time:
the Merrimack Valley Porcupines will hold our monthly
meeting at noon, on Saturday, June 25th. We will be meeting at J.W.
Hills restaurant, located just a block from the Center of New
Hampshire, on the corner of Elm and Merrimack Streets. This
location and time will allow attendees of the Freedom Summit to join
us and see what we are accomplishing here in NH.
Sounds like this meeting each month is something I should get involved with.
There were about 60 people there yesterday, and about 15 for moving in Jenn and Billy.

I liked this new location .... smoke free and roomy with a great view
Hey Russell...smoke free you got it......however, re my discussion with Joel...daaa! ???
The folks that own the place said they didn't want us to have a meeting, we might
disturb the other customers? Please note the shortness of the meeting, and could you
even hear?
Perhaps they have a back room, non smoking? If your'e looking for a chit-chat and lunch,
well that's a fine place, bult if you want to have a meeting and maybe make some plans
to promote freedom??
Hey, not my call, but if Joel and the MP folks want to just turn there monthly meeting into
a hey, lets get together for lunch deal, and nothing more than a social, well expect that is
there call.
Personally I'm hopeful the monthly meeting become become more than that, hell we have enough
social events already!

From Joel:
Since the last Saturday of the month falls on the 31st, and most of
us, myself included, will be at the Porc Fest, this month's MVP
meeting has been canceled. Hope to see you all on August 28th, back
at Milly's Tavern.
Joel
Wait , isn't the meeting august 27?
My understanding is it's saturday aug 27 at noon , milly's tavern. is that correct?
Yes, it is the 27th at noon according to the e-mail that Joel sent-out yesterday and the listing in the NHlibertycalendar.org/ is the same.
July's was the 31st. That was an old message.
Somebody's looking at a 2004 calendar methinks. :o (Kat?)
No, just passing on Joel's messages.
Sorry, didn't read it thoroughly. :(
Hey, hey, hey, hey! The meeting is Saturday! :D
Expect I'll be there looking for volunteers, so hey! ;D Perhaps
we need to get to know each other better! ;D
Had a dozen folks volunteer for our Civic Action fundraiser on September 18th. ;D
Thanks guys, you ROCK!! 8)
head count at 8/28 meeting was 42 , looked like about 10-15 new folks

The Nappens are moving in that morning as well....
I think I can be there this saturday. Historically these meetings get great attendence but the speeches and announcements drag on too long....so I'm thinking of hanging out with the main bunch during the social part of the meeting and then inviting folks to come outside or go to another room and continue socializing during the speeches. who's interested in joining me?

NO. If you would check the nhlibertycalendar.org you will see the times have been changed.
The HC LP is meeting right after at 3 PM and the Nappens will host their moving help then so as not to prevent them from attending the MVP meeting. The calendar has been correct for a month now. :)

There is a lot of information in those speeches and as long as we are fairly quiet, we can socialize then too.

I too, prefer to just say hi to all and avoid the official part and go hang out. Maybe outside if the smoke is too strong, or, even worse, tobacco smoke ;D
We can't make it this month. We made a commitment for a Where's George function in Portsmouth before Joel changed the date on us.

Would that not be for the April meeting? Not May?
I need to know about May and whether my info above is correct for may.
May 6th at Bickfords on Willow St.
Really, the calendar isn't complicated to look at :P
Just realized that the time has changed for this to 1:00, so I thought I'd point that out to people.

I won't usually be able to make porc meetings on saturday that ocurr at 1:00. If they're at noon i can make it. I hope it will switch back to noon.
I imagine if you show up at noon, there'll be other early birds to chat with.

They will not switch back to noon unless they switch back to Milly's. Bickford's has a brunch that runs until 1:00, hence the reason for the time change. The pros and cons of the venue change were discussed at length at multiple meetings.

what was turnout at the meeting?
37 adults, one kid and one baby (or one and a half babies if you include Amy's ;) )
I liked Bickford's a lot. Good location for out meetings, they serve beer, we had a well lit room in the back, the service was very good, quick and accurate and they have the staff to handle us. I think we should keep it here. 3 cheers to Sandy for this place!
Did some one say Beer?
Great, re: Bickfords :)
Who cares, re: beer :P
Pat
Beer? This changes everything. ;)
If Sandy had chosen a place that didn't serve beer, she would have lost the leadership position in the first bloody coup in porc history.
Oh I want to put the 1st Annual Porcupine Raffle Drawing on the August schedule.
I think beer was a bigger consideration than open carry.
Can I be added to the announcement list for Saturday 5/6?
Keene Free Press update (including Mass edition) and Porcupine Raffle.
You should email Seth. He is running the meeting this week.
Then I will just wrest control of the meeting. hehehe
What was with the LP polititian lady from Mass?
It was great to see some new guys who have moved here and some visitors.
Now I know who she is. Why was she at the meeting? I didn't get what she was doing there.
Yeah, your not the only one wondering about this. I wasn't expecting a Harry Browne tribute speech. I didn't stay for the Q & A either.
Yea ... I didn't see you there.
I don't get the speech thing..... you never know what you are going to get at the manchester meeting.
I like parties .... you know that you are going to have fun and talk to guys you like....meet new people etc.
I like the restaurant. The food was good and easy to order.....no smoke to drive my wife from the building....private room full of people.
So we will be headed to the Manchester meeting after breakfast in Peterborough.
We will be passing out Keene Free Presses to those that ask and Mass. versions for those that want to promote the FSP down there.
I will also be selling Raffle tickets.
If the lectures get too boring/political during the meeting, I will be taking the airs outside. :)

All Free State Project participants, friends, and liberty lovers are
cordially invited to the July meeting of the Merrimack Valley
Porcupines, representing the south-central part of the Free State of
New Hampshire. Come and hobnob with in-state political activists,
hear the latest local news, and find out how you can get involved!
Special guest speaker this month: Jon Babiarz, chair of the
Libertarian Party of New Hampshire, who has recently caused (another)
ruckus by running for the State House...as a Democrat!
Immediately after the MVP meeting, everyone is invited to help Kevin
R. and his dog move into their new home in Pembroke, along with the
standard post-move socializing, pizza-eating and frivolity.

I don't think I will be picking the speaker lineup or anything. I did like that we had people from NH/FSP speaking, but there sure was a lot of talk about political/legal strategies. (5 speakers were from the NHLA ..... can you imagine if we would have had 5 speeches from the underground?)
I will be selling Porcupine Raffle Tickets on Saturday.

I am all for less speeches of all kind. I would prefer more roundtable discussions. Pick a topic. Sit at the table for an hour. Pick another topic sit at the table for an hour.

This guy shows up at almost everything and delivers his coverage of events right away. He has expended a lot of his time and money. He needs some capital equipment to serve us better. Buy his video!

Candidates Forum at the August Merrimack Valley Porcupines Meeting
Calling all liberty-loving political candidates! Running for office
takes a lot of work. Money doesn't hurt, either. Thanks to the
ongoing success of such organizations as the Free State Project and
the New Hampshire Liberty Alliance, an unprecedented number of
libertarians / small-government activists are running for office in
New Hampshire this year. The Merrimack Valley Porcupines are one of
the best in-state pools of volunteers, able to plant yard signs,
distribute fliers, hold signs on election day, design campaign
websites, and maybe even contribute a buck or two. Here's your chance
to practice your public speaking skills, kiss a baby or two, and make
your sales pitch to a crack team of volunteers! There are a limited
number of weekends between now and election day. Our troops, while
stout of heart, are limited in number. Come and tell us what office
you are running for, why you think you're electable, why liberty will
be served by helping you to get elected, what kind of help you're
seeking, and why we should donate our critical volunteer hours to you
instead of, you know... that other libertarian running for office.
When: Saturday, August 5, 1:00 - 2:30ish
Where: back room of Bickford's Grille, 1000 S. Willow St., Manchester
Why: because you need us (admit it)
Members of all political parties, and independents, are welcome.
Depending on how many candidates wish to participate, we may need to
defer some speakers to September. Preference will be given to
candidates who have not already addressed the MVP in the last two
months. All candidates will be given an equal length of time to
address the group, probably in the 5 - 10 minute range. Time
violators will be shot.
If you would like to participate, and/or have any questions, please
contact Sandy Pierre at scitarel@yahoo.com or (603) 206-4352.

If you think you have any pull with Alex Jones, you should let Irena know. That would absolutely pack the house at the Liberty Forum in February. :icon_pirat:
Well, I sent him an email testing the waters. I don't know about how much "pull" I have but a book I read somewhere said, "Until you make it, fake it." I like that line, so I've decided to go around pretending I'm somebody important. ;D And you never answered my question to you: Can he speak at a Merrimack Porc meeting?
Caleb
I would lean towards "no" only because I expect it would overwhelm Bickford's. I'm sure he'd have something interesting to say.

I remember you gave me $5 for the raffle. Didn't you just ask me to add it to the pot? I can't remember what we were talking about. Tickets sell for $10.
Maybe I will have to turn over the tables at the meeting because many people have turned the FSP and porc meetings into a den of politicians (thieves).

Interesting. I wonder if Dave Mincin gets this when he cancels Seacoast meetings? Or if Seth got this for cancelling the Concord meeting? Or if, when people gather in Keene without Kat and Russell present, it's still called a Monadnock Porcupines meeting? This is the only meeting I've cancelled all year. Frankly, I'm amazed at the amount of negative feedback I've received. I've been getting phone calls, emails, and now this forum thread. So very, very sorry that the fact that *I* have to work over a 3-day holiday weekend, and the only person who expressed an interest in being on the agenda has been in the #$%% HOSPITAL, cramps so many other people's style. :P
FYI, I am stepping down at the end of the year. Want to lead the group, toowm?
And Dada, as I have already told you repeatedly, the ONLY reason meetings were rescheduled to 1:00 is because the room isn't available until then. It's just super to get this complaint over and over from the very guy who got us in trouble at Milly's and caused us to relocate in the first place. ::)
Sometimes I get so sick of this #$%. :(
Going to bed now.
I'm really surprised that you're getting the negative calls and emails. The stuff on this forum appears light hearted enough.
People are calling and e-mailing to complain?
Gee I guess they are lost with out you Sandy.
Sorry -- I wasn't trying to lay into you -- I closed with the wink (;)) to try to show I was teasing. I know that herding cats is a thankless job. We really appreciate everything you've done for the MVP and the broader movement.
I stay on the Chicago porc list for just such an occasion as Scott and Dana visiting, so I suggested the MVP meeting. Also, in another thread, I offered to bring my 4th amendment tape for the backpack protest. I think the central location and larger number of people relative to Keene, Seacoast, and Concord means that we probably should keep the first Saturday slot going, even when we might not have a formal meeting.
I am not interested at all in leading the group next year. Each of you does alot for liberty and sometimes it feels like I'm a slacker, because my family and job take so much of my time. But I hope the things I am doing will make a difference.

Interesting. I wonder if Dave Mincin gets this when he cancels Seacoast meetings? Or if Seth got this for cancelling the Concord meeting? Or if, when people gather in Keene without Kat and Russell present, it's still called a Monadnock Porcupines meeting?
Dave - no
I don't go to those meetings anyways.
Seth - yes
I was thinking of holding the meeting without him.
Kat - yes
The meetings go on without us.
I guess what I am saying is that since 50-70 people show up each month, we should not cancel the meetings. Kat and I might not be able to come this saturday, but others will turn up. :)
I also consider a lack of speakers to be a positive sign for most meetings.
As for the liberty zombie ... I don't know.
Gee, I didn't see these postings as negative. I think it is neat that it happens anyway. Maybe we don't need a leader next year. Does anyone have one of those speaking staffs we can just pass around?
Cathleen
Especially since we have visiting porcs inbound for this meeting, we would be remiss as the welcome wagon if we didn't hold this meeting at it's regular time. We will miss Sandy and maybe some others, but we can welcome the visitors to our fair state.
We can observe a moment of silence for those that are working on Saturday and cannot make it. Which will be immediately followed by us stuffing our faces.
If your name is Dada or if you like breakfast buffets, please come early to enjoy the buffet and the company of the the early bird porcs. :)
If I cannot make it, Cathleen I pass the welcome wagon torch/speaking staff to you.
wow a breakfast gig? I had been planning on coming up around 1130 but maybe i should go earlier.
will just get there as soon as practical
dada is in the house waiting for others to join him. :)
We had a good turnout -- around 35 folks including 5 visiting porcs.
cool
Memo to those not yet moved... when was the last time any of you went to an UNcancelled libertarian meeting that had 35 people ? Let alone a cancelled one.. LOL
even with the alleged lack of speakers I still thought there was too much announcing and speaking, although I'm guilty of adding 30 seconds to to that by plugging NHfree.com :)
You guys had announcements and speaking at a cancelled meeting? Did anyone bring the Robert's Rules of Order book or hold a board meeting?

Chicago is apparently shipping faster then we can count.

quick question
I just talked with Andy Martel (who earned an 80% voting record with NHLA, and was surprised that he didn't get high 90's, as with other scorecards), and he agreed to come to the next MVP meeting in October at Bickford's. Who do I speak ti about getting him a moment to speak at the next MVP meeting?
He is being challenged by Betsy Devries, who has a 24% record with NHLA, and has been consistantly voting for tax and spending increases in both the State House and the Manchester Aldermanic Board. Devries voted against a House bill nullifying any UN decision that countered the US Consititution, and almost all of her money is coming in from out of state.

It was great to put some faces to names and to hear about what porcs are actually doing in NH. Very cool!

Friday (aka Sandy) is the organizer. Contact her to get on the agenda.
Be aware, however, that if Andre Martel shows his face, and the first words out of his mouth are anything other than "PLEASE FORGIVE ME! I HAVE REALIZED THAT REAL-ID IS TERRIBLE AND MUST BE STOPPED!", he is going to be verbally gang-raped. I fully intend to be one of those doing the raping. Consider yourself (and Andre) warned.

Martel might get reelected. If he does, we will need him to vote against Real ID. I will be polite to the guy, but I'll tell him in no uncertain terms that his vote on Real ID was awful, and that it cost him any chance at getting my support.
If he comes, I urge people not to throw things. I like it when politicians come to our meetings and try to kiss our asses, and I want them to keep coming. It's good entertainment value if nothing else, and it's also, definitely, a sign of progress for the movement.
So if he gets reelected .... that determines some of our behavior? That does not make sense to me.
Watching polititians being polititians is not fun for me.

If the guy was invited to the meeting, or, asked to address it and was accepted, the worse thing you should do to him is assault hm with questions that he either can't answer or, looks like a fool (in that crowd) because of the answers he gives.

You can get a day pass to a White House press briefing by calling up the press office and asking for one. They do ask for your name, date of birth and Social Security number. And they'll probably turn you down, especially if you don't give them a Social Security number. But if a trip to D.C. is in your near future, it might be worth looking into.

I'm all y'alls people. ;) Just finishing Murray Rothbard's
For a New Liberty. In the last chapter, he defines the standard for what he calls libertarians:
- Always working toward the goal of a totally volutary society
- Rejecting intermediate steps that work counter to the end
- Accepting steps that move in the right direction, even if they are slow
He quotes an early 19th century abolitionist who stressed that the goal will always be freedom from slavery, but that, tragically, they would have to settle for incremental steps.
I think a voluntary solution here is allowing anybody who wants to speak to us the opportunity to speak, but an informal gathering spot outside (at least when the weather is nice) for anybody who doesn't want to hear it, or wants to make a statement about the particular speaker.
Nice :D
How about we make the polititians stay outside and talk through the glass. :)

Andy Martel has an almost spotless proliberty voting record - helmet laws, taxes, property rights, self defense, homeschooling, etc... He has also agreed to sponsor a bill keeping NH out of National ID cards, and publicly opposes Real ID. He initially supported 1582, but was convinced to table the bill for whatever reason.
Truth be told, Libertarians have been elected to state legislatures who don't offer as good a voting record. His opponent, Devries, is one of those crazy liberals who has voted to raise taxes about 15 times as state rep and Alderman. In fact, she is one of the Infamous Eight on the Manchester Board of Alderman, and could do real damage becoming an entrenched statist from a district that had been putting in statist Dems for over 40 years.
This will be a close fight, and we will regret not helping Andy, not just next year, but over many, many years of living under the heel of Devries and her successors.

Speakers will include House candidate and the NHLA's Director of Political Action Don Gorman; Research Director of the NHLA, Denis Goddard, with a smorgasbord of election day volunteer opportunities; and State Senator Andre Martel, running for reelection. We will also be celebrating the third anniversary of the designation of New Hampshire as the "Free State" by the Free State Project. :occasion1: All liberty lovers are cordially invited.
Where: Bickford's, 1000 S. Willow St., Manchester
When: Saturday, Oct. 7, 1:00PM - 2:30ish
Hope to see you there! :D
I will be laying cement at Shorty's and throwing water balloons at the feds. :)
You guys have fun running for office in Manchester.
Please folks, do come to Bickford's tomorrow if possible.
We'll be getting volunteers to hold signs on election day, FOR FELLOW PORCS who are running for office.
The good news is, we have quite a few people willing to spend the money and time to run for office.
The realistic news is, they need our support -- YOUR support -- to have a chance at winning.
Holding signs on election day is very easy, a fun way to hang out and meet people, and has a BIG impact on the election.
I know there are other things going on on Saturday, and people can only be in one place at one time.
Whatever you do, please do something to help make our experiment in freedom a success.

Don't see how setting there listening to speakers for a couple of good daylight
hours, the weekend before the vote, helps promote freedom, when Joel, Karl, Jon, and Keith could really use your help at that time...pounding the streets!
QuoteJust my thought...but thinking the MMP should pitch the meeting tomorrow.
How does one pitch a meeting ???
I suppose we could start holding them in tents but it might be a little cold come winter ;D (sorry Dave, I had to)
But I thought it was fun, there were lit drops before and after the meeting and it's generally a good way for people who are out of the loop to learn about lit drops that are going on and which candidates still need help and what all is planned for the next month. I think it was a pretty good meeting. I especially liked learning about the (aw crap...what was it??)....claremont decision? Anyway, I'm definitely going to contact that guy and help with that. It happened in Kansas, it could definitely happen here and I aim to stop it.
The meeting was definitely shorter than usual, but I was glad we hung around a bit, because a couple came from Mass after having a flat tire on the way up.
I am glad to see that the meeting still happened. You never who will be visiting, or when exactly they will show up. :)

I ate at T-bones in Salem yesterday. Thought the french onion soup could have used a few more onions and was a bit watery, but the flavor was good. The ruben sandwich was also good.
I hope the MVP folks will keep their options open starting in April. Rumor has it that there will be a new restaurant in Manchester opening around then. Good food, good beer, plenty of room, non-smoking and open carry allowed.
The agreement to move is for the next two meetings, after which the group will re-evaluate. It was split nearly evenly between going back to Millys and trying T-Bones. Since it was about doing something different, T-Bones won. Unless the experience is horrible in March, it will likely remain T-Bones in April, at which time we'll decide where to go from there.

The food at T-Bones is not that great, but I suppose it's convenient for the time being.
So it's T-bones for two months?
Well you know the LPNH was upset about being notified about the Ron Paul event and even posted a disclaimer about it.
So if they are going to go with an unknown like Phillies, so be it.
But most of their members liked the idea of meeting Ron Paul and at the very least were not offended by having been notified of the event. D'uh.
What does the LPNH have to do with Republican Ron Paul?
Someone asked George if he would drop out because Ron is running, first question actually. He said he is running for the Libertarian Party ticket, and what good is a party that doesn't run someone for President to help build the volunteer force. Now in the extreme outside chance Ron actually won the Republican nomination, well that's a different question. George acknowledged such an event would likely pull donations and volunteers from him. Either way that's a bridge we have yet to cross. George is busy campaigning for the Libertarian Party nomination. He mentioned an upcoming debate that would include the "serious" candidates for the LP. I of course, don't recall when he said that was.

Ron is a prominent libertarian. But notice he had to run as something else to get where he is?
To my way of thinking, getting liberty oriented people elected should be the goal here.

I had a feeling it was just one person but since I was told that 'the phone was ringing off the hook with complaints' I was led to believe otherwise. I did not get specific names and even had many write to tell me that it was just fine by them that they were told of this event...because they would love to attend.
Thanks Cath!

I agree... LPers if they so choose can help Ron Paul get the GOP nod... if Ron Paul wins the nomination then the conversation can take place.
I think the debate is in March or April..... it is not on his own calendar. (*yet)

Most of the candidates will be in NH many many times.
I want to make sure this one is particularly welcome since they contacted us.
Every meeting is different and you will meet different people. If you are in Concord, you will like that meeting ..... very big room ... no speakers.
Btw, the location for the next MVP meeting has apparently changed...I can't remember where to but I heard last night it was no longer at T-bones?

If Keith Murphy gets his place running (next 2-3 months) I am sure that we would want to support his business and he would be cool with having us there.

I guess we can change it to 12-3 :)
Changed the first post to reflect the new meeting time/location.
FYI, Murphy's Taproom probably won't be able to accommodate MVP until June. I do hope the group looks at us then. BTW, its not just a Murphy location; it's also a Beisel and McGuire location! :)

You can talk about whatever you want. What, did Bickford's say you couldn't?
There was sure a lot of trading/buying/selling going on a MVP today! :D
I like the new place. It was big.
While I am not planning to invest cash in liberty dollars for "holding" purposes, today really made it hit home to me that we have enough people to actually support an alternative currency. I know if I receive an LD, I can spend it on books, food, clothing, or a slew of other things. Even bumper stickers, or admission to schmoozy hotel conventions.
How cool is that?

What happens when we have 100 at every meeting?(my prediction is Sept for that lots of people tend to move in the spring/summer... the early First1000ers will be coming).
Porc dollars..... I was working on that project.... but got involved with other things... I still have all the plans and numbers though... I just have to pull the trigger on it... maybe after I get the new roof on.

we have had almost that many at millys or bickfords ... but it was crammed.
The group should slowly grow ... especially if we don't do any more of those long boring political speeches. Yesterday they talked a lot of politics, but no one lasted too long.

Nope, we cannot get more than 20 liberty-lovers together month after month here, never mind have the number grow! It's
gone down since four of the six local activists joined the FSP...
I've been watching the attendance numbers since they were 20!!! Very impressive.

we have had 50-70 before ... even way back at millys ... we were pushing around the corners and you couldn't hear.
I think we have not grown to 100 already was because of random 1 hour long boring speeches that drives people away and lack of room.
Now we have the Concord meeting that takes some of the group, but I bet we can get up to 100 by this summer. :)
I think we have a good blend of topics, just like the people. We don't want just one kind. We have reached a point where not everyone comes to every meeting, or we would have a hundred or more. That's ok with me.

A business owner listening to the desires of his customers?
There is a niche for everything. Not always profitable, though
There are several reasons it will be nonsmoking, for reasons business and reasons practical.
The business reasons are that many potential customers have expressed a desire to have a non-smoking place in that area. The few bars that are in that area are smoking bars. Also, a non-smoking place will likely have broader appeal to the crowds coming from the arena; right now many non-smokers head north on Elm St. to look for a non-smoking place.
The other reason is, of course, that the state and its supporters have made credible threats to commit violent acts against the proprietors of any restaurant permitting its customers to smoke on their private property. In a few months, armed thugs in the employ of the state will arrive at all such restaurants to enforce said threats. Any restaurant owner wishing to retain whats left of their businesses and their lives will comply or or have their property stolen, or their persons kidnapped or murdered by the state, should they elect to exercise their right to self defense.
I like the idea ... why not have a bar that is different.
what next? .... bars with out barbrawls .... bars without filthy restrooms .... what is this world coming to?
I would love to have a place to meet people at in Manchester. :) Having it smoke free and clean will only be a plus for me.

Saw some guys outside working on the soon to be Murphy's Taproom. Because it is the former Omega, which lost their 'permission' licence, Keith Murphy is already being watched. But he is doing alot of work to it and I believe is expected to open in mid april. Yes, the door has new hinges. ;D

My personal opinion is that they didn't even try to give us good service this month. They didn't have the room set up for enough people(the set up was even less than what they did for our last meeting there). I don't think we should go back there again unless someone has a talk with the manager. Murphy's will be open by our next meeting and I think we should just all go there. They will have enough room for us even without a separate meeting room.
As far as why it is hard for them to take people's orders all thoughout the meeting....just aa if you were eating in the regular restaurant.....
When going to a restaurant, the entire party is seated at one time and the order-taker comes and takes the order - generally all at once. Once the party gets larger - it becomes more work for the wait staff - because instead of taking one order and delivering that one order of food, they are more likely to have to go back and forth to the kitchen more to accomodate the diners' wants. This is why most places have a minimum gratuity of parties of 8 or more - because otherwise the wait staff ends up doing far more work and getting far less pay.
Now, think about the meeting.....70 people, arriving at different times, and as much as they wanted everyone to order at the same time, I don't know if that happened that way. I wouldn't have been surprised that someone didn't get waited on - especially if they weren't there at 12:30 and seated when the wait staff was taking orders.
I think for what the needs are for the meeting, Newick's is doing a good job. I hope everyone who eats and/or drinks tips the staff well.
A buffet as the only option really does make things much easier....you either eat or you don't.
As far as Murphy's - I can't imagine that they're going to have a counter where you can walk up and order. We can't preume that there will be enough room for a group this size without a seprate room. It would totally disrupt their entire restaurant/bar from the way it's been described to me. I don't think you can plan on Murphy's until at least June.
The buffet thing in Concord makes the most sense to me.
The bottle of water I got at Newicks was good.

As far as Murphy's - I can't imagine that they're going to have a counter where you can walk up and order. We can't preume that there will be enough room for a group this size without a seprate room.
You are probably right.
But Rob has been working on the place, so he knows it is big enough. :)
Here's my personal opinion.
Keith, Carl, Dan, and Carol are our Brothers and Sisters in Liberty. Therefore, I will stand through the whole meeting if there are not enough seats. I will purchase food and beverages from them to support their establishment. I am reasonably sure I am not the only one who feels this way.

As far as Tammy's - I can't imagine that they're going to have the ability to produce the items we need. We can't presume that they will have the capacity to produce quantities of this size without having an expansion of their current operations.
Perhaps some will get this post!?!

It seems like Shuvom is going to have it at Keith's, he just didn't think it was going to be ready next month.

Count me in, too -- not because they're my brothers and sisters in liberty (though that they most definitely are), but because, having worked extensively with every one of them in NHLA and related activities, I know personally that they take pride in doing a good job, that making a good business with high quality service and product is important to them as people.
Carol and Dan brought wine and cheese to the Ron Paul even last weekend, and had an impromptu tasting (complete with voting on the wines) to determine which wines will be stocked at Murphy's taproom.
How cool is that?So yeah, Murphy's Taproom cannot open soon enough for me.

All in favor?
All opposed?
Either way I'll be at Murphy's the first Saturday of next month...even if I'm by myself in the parking lot...perhaps sweeping the lot or washing the windows...

Cool. I'll be inside making toasts to you for all the good work ;)
You guys are missing the point......Murphy's may be open for business by the time of the next meeting....and I agree 100% that I want to support this place as much as the rest of you - and because I live in Manchester, I probably will go for lunch or dinner more often than a lot of us.
We cannot presume that it is OK to plan to have a meeting in the middle of their newly opened restaurant - when the room that would be appropriate for a meeting will not be ready. That would mean using their dining and bar area - without their OK. They need more than the porcs eating at their place to be successful - and it might not be the best to plan to turn away patrons on a Saturday afternoon so that we can occupy their establishment for a meeting. It's not about having enough seats for US - it's about having enough seats for other patrons who may not want to spend their money there and not be in the middle of a porc meeting. They will be open for regular business and we cannot presume that it is OK - when it could actually hinder their business that day.
I hope that when we do start meeting there - everyone spends their money generously and tips they staff well. A new restaurant is always a challenge - we need to be sure that our support is more than just moral support. :)

Doesn't the free market dictate "first come, first served" unless the proprietor specifically refuses us service?(and I don't think Keith would do that, especially when we bring money, and bodies for a "full house" photo opportunity, and the potential to have other people stop by to see what all the fuss is about, especially if we're gathered in the parking lot and outside the front door...it will look like the place is packed...isn't that what you want as a proprietor??)
I'll be there...and it looks like others will as well...
Sure glad I don't have to go back to Newick's again...
When I spoke with Karl this week - he said the room that they would have for gatherings like this will not be available for a couple more months. I take that to mean that they cannot accomodate a meeting for a couple of more months.
I don't beleive Shuvom ever said that the next meeting would be at Murphy's....
He specifically said that Murphy's would not be ready for the next meeting, and that it would be at the same place.
He specifically said it would be at Newicks.
I understand they are planning a meeting room at Murphy's. I have not seen the place, except in photos and I have no idea how large it is or how much parking.
Presumably, a room would take up a lot of square footage and would have to pay for itself. I don't think it is the kind of business that will keep the staff and equipment to serve 50-70 people around all the time. The tables and chairs alone would be one Hell of an expense.
I'm guessing their are temp and leasing services that cover this.
I propose when the room can e occupied, we rent it from them and bring folding chairs and do a 'tailgate' in the parking lot.
Parking is going to be a problem. Only about 14 or so.

heck i used to ride my bike to Bickford's. I'm sure I'll do the same for this place.
I hope they have a convenient place for people to lock up bikes (like, say, a bike rack!) unlike most places in Manchster *hint hint*

Miller Lite = 3.2 carbs
Amstel Light = 5 carbs
But at least Amstel light tastes like beer!
I used to use the Amstel Light measure system....di I eat thiscookie or have a beer. Hmmmmm.
I'll be risking the extra Carb or 10 with 'real' beer ;D
Guiness is surprisingly low carb. So I have that first, then switch to Miller Lite. :)
My diet may be strange to people, but at least I don't have to worry about counting carbs, or calories, or even worry about the quantity of food I eat.

Does Shuvom know about this? Who is going there? I have eaten at Newick's for years and don't find the service to be all that bad. ???
PS - their lobstah stew is deeeeeeeeeeevine! I've eaten there at least 4 times in the last 3 months. Good thing we still have the makris for those 8 lb lobsters I love!

That depends on whether you mean the main MVP meeting...
Or whether you mean the main AMVP meeting...
One is at Newick's where the SECOND time we met there they set up one third LESS tables and chairs for us(how stupid was that)...and at both of the meetings some people have either had poor service or no service(as in they didn't even get to place an order)...
The other is at Murphy's but you probably wouldn't want to to THERE!?!
Why it's owned by a PORCUPINE!?!
Why would you want to give your business to one of OUR OWN!?!
Hey...He's one of us...He's got a nice place with some very nice staff...and I'm going to be there at noon tomorrow...

Just to let everyone know,
The MVP meeting is at Newick's seafood restaurant for the last time tomorrow.
I'm sorry some don't like the food or service, and since Newicks is closing this month, we'll soon have another place to meet which will hopefully please more.
But honestly, I could actually care less if the place we meet serves good food, slow food, or no food at all. I would meet with all of you fellow freedom fighters in an abandoned warehouse if we had to- it's the information I come for. The new ideas, the coordination, and the good friends I have made while fighting to free ourselves!
Murphy's is a great place, with great food, and I will definitely throw my personal business a Free Stater's way. And WHEN they finish their back room which can hold our size, and WHEN the owners let me know they are ready to have such a large group in that room, we'll take a vote on meeting there.
I'll also start looking, again, for a new meeting place for June.
See you all tomorrow!

+1 for Shuvom for taking on the thankless task of MVP organizer and being so diplomatic.
+1 for Rob for organizing an alternative to the official group, in protest.
Personally, I didn't have much of a problem with the original venue and plan to be there since that's where most everything is happening. Afterwards, I plan to swing by Murphy's, one of my favorite lunch spots, and see what's happening there. I look forward to the day when the facility is able to accomadate a group our size! :)
Keith has ALREADY had a group in his place that is larger than the attendance at most of our meetings... It's the sports and social club and they fill the place up...literally...

Shuvom is going to try to find an outdoor venue for next month (June), based on requests. I think it could be a great picnic, and the kids can run around.
July+ will likely be at Murphy's, with an earlier start time, before they open to the public.

Hi Tammy,
Thanks for the humor.
I don't find it at all unusual that we would have the same thoughts. We are, after all, in the same movement towards Liberty. Some are just further along in their philosophical "process". The Non-Aggression Principle, the Golden Rule, jury education(and jury nullification of most "laws"), and offering peaceful liberty-oriented alternatives to socialistic government indoctrination programs are what most of us are striving for...
Hope to see you this afternoon!
Rob

QuoteIMPORTANT June and July Meeting locations!

Hey guys,
For our June "picnic" meeting, I've scouted out "Livingston Park" in Manchester as our best bet. Why?
1. It's free. (Bear Brook costs each adult $3 to get in, and $280 to rent the large covered shelter. Which was already rented that day.)
2. It's in a central location, just a little north of downtown. It's on Rte 3/28 across from the Kia dealership. Google map here (http://maps.google.com/maps?%3Cbr%20/%3Ehl=en&q=map+livingston+park+manchester+nh&ie=UTF8&ll=43.017513,-%3Cbr%20/%3E71.454821&spn=0.026106,0.05785&z=14&iwloc=addr&om=1)
3. Parking is decent. If there's a soccer game that morning, it might be a little crowded, but still do-able for our crowd. Extra parking is found all around the park, around the tennis courts and soccer fields.
4. Plenty of playground for the kids, a nice walking trail around a large lake for the adults. I'll upload pictures later of a wooded glen or athletic bleachers it has that we can meet on.
5. If it rains, there is a "Papa Gino's" restaurant just one more light up the road which opens at 10:30 that will be our back-up location.
Therefore, these are the details for the June meeting on the 2nd:
-Bring folding chairs or blankets. There are not enough tables for everyone if we meet in the glen.
-Bring food and drink for yourselves, others if you wish. There is none at the park. There is a Dunkin Donuts 1 min down the road. I'll bring some chilled bottled water for about 6 people.
-Bring outdoor fun gear (footballs, frisbees, I'll bring a volleyball).
-As discussed at the May meeting, to have more Saturday free after the meeting, the June meeting time will be 10 AM. Repeat: 10 AM. This will also get us ready for the earlier July+ meetings (see below).
-If it's raining, go one more stoplight to the north and turn into the shopping center to the right, and we'll meet at the Papa Gino's pizza place. They open at 10:30. If you have any question whether it is raining (hard enough) or not, call my cell.
For July and beyond, I've worked it out with Keith how to meet at the Tap Room while respecting his customers. They don't usually open until 11:30, but Keith said he would bring the staff in early once a month so we can meet in the front room at 10 AM. We should usually be done by 12, and shouldn't run aground of the lunch crowd. It might be good to be breaking up right when natives are walking in, so they can see political fun in action.
Murphy's Tap Room is at 494 Elm St.
Parking is possible down Elm street to the south. You don't have to feed the meters on Sat.
So we'll meet there from July onwards!
Thank you to the whole group for your flexibility, patience and willingness to try new things! I'm looking forward to a fun outdoor meeting, throwing the volleyball around!
Shuvom
Shuvom,
Thank you for your efforts with the MVP meeting!
Much appreciated!
Rob
My roommate says it's at 11am now. Can someone confirm or deny?
Confirmed.
QuoteGuys,
Just a reminder, the August meeting is coming up not this Saturday,
but next Saturday the 4th, at Murphy's Taproom.
Talking to Keith at Billy's party, he said it would be okay if we
started the meeting at 11, because his Saturday morning crowd is
extremely slow. It would mean his cooks and waitresses could come
in a little later.
This would also be a comprimise between the MVP folks who want the
meeting at 10 and those who want it at 12.
So, FOR THE LAST TIME THIS YEAR, we are changing the meeting time,
to 11 am on Saturday morning. Hopefully, the rest of the year will
not be as tumultous as the first part, and this meeting time will
please most folks.
Thank you, and remember to e-mail me with anything you'd like on the
agenda.
Shuvom

yes 11am ... government time .... for those who still bow the knee to caesar ;D
We will be there. We can see all of you on Saturday with new Keene Free Press papers.
If R&K bring them, NH Atlases will be available for sale. $15.00 with $5.00 (maybe) going to the Liberty Scholarship Fund.
Ah well, I'll probably be missing this month's meeting since I won't be getting to NH until that night. But y'all can tell me how it went, and I'll wait all month with bated breath for the next one.
See you Sunday! :D
it's still at 11am this week?

QuoteHey all,
Another MVP meeting is coming up THIS Saturday, the 6th, at Murphy's
Taproom, 11 am!
It might bee too late, but anyone going to Taproom Tuesdays- let any
new folks know! Let's grow the size of the meeting even more!
On the agenda this meeting:
-Shuvom reports on much NHLA stuff
-Dreepa is leading a Ron Paul lit drop right after the meeting
-We might have a recruiter for the NH "Constition militia" (to go
around peacefully teaching people about the NH Constitution) if I
contact him in time
-Manpower event where, if 10 people donate 15 minutes of handwriting
work right after the meeting, Irena can do a mailing that will ROCK
Concord
-Book Swap!
The jail where Lauren Canario is being held is next to Murphy's, about a two-minute walk up Valley Street. Perhaps a protest in front of the jail after—or during—the MVP meeting is in order. Let's get 40–50 porcs out there at once and show them how much support she has!
I'll be litdropping for RP after

Head up Valley Street and down Pine Street. This is ward 3—where I live, and which Muni has mentioned is really in need of bigger freestater presence.
Notary Public Needed
A notary is requested to attend the MVP meeting tomorrow morning. Thank you very much. :icon_pirat:
I would expect to have "visitors" tomorrow, even if they don't introduce themselves. You know -- friends of those who were making the rounds today.
Open carry is highly encouraged. 8)

And friends of friends. I've become a Quaker.
;)
I left my Mac power cord at Murphy's tonight. I'll be there in the morning for MVP. Please keep it safe and warm...well, safe at least.
Thank you :icon_pirat:

I will personally be very disappointed with anyone that attends an MVP
meeting to engage in "talking shop" activities, when the most
important event in the Ron Paul campaign is happening just 20 minutes
away!!!
If you need a ride from Manchester to Concord, LET ME KNOW:
Denis.Goddard (at) gmail.com
It doesn't matter if you're a Ron Paul fan -- what is at stake here is
very, very simple:
* If Ron Paul does well in the NH Primary, you will see HUNDREDS of
new early-movers
* If Ron Paul does poorly in the NH Primary, you will see people ask
if the FSP can have any effect, and "so why should I move?"
Out of your own rational self-interest in making New Hampshire more
Free, and because I will publicly pillory anyone that chooses jaw-jaw
over activism,
please DO NOT ATTEND THIS MONTH'S MVP MEETING.
Thanks.
I take it this (http://newhampshireunderground.com/forum/index.php?topic=11593.0) is information about the event you're talking about?

There are a number of liberty lovers (Libertarian party faithful) that already feel lonely at our meetings. Please don't ostracize them as well.
How about moving the MVP meeting to another Saturday? The calendar is pretty light at the moment for 2007-11-10, and it's completely empty for 2007-11-17.
Why not just leave the meeting when it is....the next one is only a month away. : )
We will not be making it to this meeting. We will be visiting Manchester ... and I believe Murphy's on November 5th.
I hope you guys have fun ... and hope to see you soon.

Shuvom agrees with you.
QuoteYeah, but it's much easier just to have a lightly attended meeting than try to reschedule. The next one is just in a month.
Cancelling a meeting for one political candidate's workshop would set a bad precedent, especially since 100% of Free Staters will never be behind any candidate. This way, folks can choose to attend the meeting or not, and I promised to send out minutes for those who didn't make it.
I can't attend. Wouldn't if I could. Have you seen those arm on Goddard?
so how did it go
Are there any conflicts for December's MVP meeting?

Yes. The biggest Ron Paul canvassing event of the entire primary season (http://ronpaul.meetup.com/6/calendar/6753577/)kicks off at 10 am Saturday.

For those who wish to attend MVP first there will be someone there to hand out packets after the MVP meeting.
My parents are coming up from Massachusetts for a visit this weekend and will probably be attending tomorrow's MVP meeting with me.
