I just joined Digg myself, so I'll dig all these when I get home.

I'm also on Steven Carson's list of things to digg. I'll post those here too.

Wouldn't it be wonderfull if the front page of dig was a NewSite with complete libertarian perspective!

Title: Re: Digg

I Dugg everything listed here.

So, how does this work.  Is their some algorithm in Digg that says the most diggs it gets the higher it is on the front page?

Is it some combination of most diggs/most comments?

And the Date must be in their too somewhere.

How come John Stossels isn't on the front page. It was 6 days ago when it was submitted but it's got over 1000 diggs.

How does the algorithm work.  Rating =  A% (num diggs) + (100-A)% (Num Comments - X(number of days since submitted) ?

It looks like their's some randomizing in their too so the front page doesn't look the same all the time.

Does this mean that something needs to have all it's diggs the 1st day in order to get the front page?

It'd be nice to know how it worked.

This Lew Rockwell artical needs to be dugg. Especially with seeing all the annoying ads all over celebrating it.

http://digg.com/political_opinion/Disable_the_ADA

It is with sad regret that America celebrated the 16th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) yesterday, July 26, 2006. 16 years ago, in 1990, President George H. W. Bush signed the Americans with Disabilities Act into law. The American with Disabilities act has done so much harm to people that are genuinely disabled. Repeal It.

While giving +/- to the various comments, I could not discern a pattern for which ones would drop below my viewing level, and which ones would allow me to comment.

Curious.

That wasn't my question. After awhile I'd try to digg some comments (AFter I'd dugg or burried, like 70 or so) and the clicking on the digg/bury icons stopped doing anything.

And I tried to make a last reply nad I submitted it several times and it didn't show up.

Makes me wonder if their's a limit or something.

In regards to your question, you can set it to only show a certain threshhold.

There is a HUGE discussion right now on /. about LEO abuse regarding cameras.

So large, in fact, /. editors opened a new topic with a long list of choice quotes, many stray from just cameras.

Now the real news: I have three mod points remaining.  Someone else needs to post Russel's story ASAP and give me the post ID#.

If I comment, I can't moderate.  I littered the previous story with Anonymous Coward postings.

Ultimately proliferation, would mean more likely to have peace -- for the same reason gun proliferation reduces crime. (Or at least violent crime. Statistically Auto thief and burgalery attempts increase.)

Tracy, the volume is working against you.

I'll digg two or three a day, so long as I can tell what the article is about. But I'm not going to wade in on the four or five at a time posts, some of which seem kind of esoteric just looking at the titles.

*Edit*: Okay, I dugg the Crazy Horse article, since I brought it up in the first place.  ;)

I digg it.

One thing that's important to know is that stories listed under "World & Business," including most of the stories we've submitted, do not appear on the digg.com front page, even if they're promoted. They do appear on the section front, though. The front page defaults to the "Technology" section, and digg users who want something else to appear on the front page have to change this in their user preferences.

This is why, whenever I have, or can make, a tie-in between a libertarian issue and a tech issue (or they're the same issue!), I'll promote it under a Technology section.

That used to be true.  If you go to the Digg site now, and you are not already logged into your Digg account, you will see ALL of the categories mixed together.   It is kind of frustrating a times because new stories tend to drift off the front page quite rapidly.

My Liberty Dollar stories made it there.

Firstly, you need about 40 diggs in less than a day, preferably 12 hours, to move to the "popular page". That is when things really take off. The more diggs your article gets before they make the dump, the higher on the front popular page your story appears (you are generally out competing 6-12 other newly promoted stories). It is a primacy effect: whoever is the top story gets the most hits and the most diggs, further perpetuating its time on top.

Of my 4 articles on the LD vs US Mint story, three became Popular, two making it to the "World & Business" page, and the first making the front page of Digg.

It is really really important that people cooperate in digging each others stories if we are to break our stories through into the popular zeitgeist. This is where our individualism and factionalism works against us and to the advantage of the collectivists, who don't have any problem promoting a story they may not agree totally with so long as it furthers the cause. It is hard with us, because while we have core libertarian issues and stories, everyone is guilty of bringing right and left boundary issues into the mix: pro-war vs anti-war, abortion, an alleged draft, etc.

What I'd like to develop is a site that is kinda like Digg, but which everyone can submit their Digg submitted links to, and through which everyone can just go through the list and digg the articles with one button, while judging its relative libertarian-ness with a different site-specific widget so people can stay away from boundary issues on the right or left if they so choose. The diggs pass through to digg.com, and it helps build popularity of our stories on our issues to help propagandize the consensus reality.

between 30 to 100 BEFORE it gets buried.

They have it in their head that Ron and Rand Paul tell their people what to do and they do it. That's not the case at all. It's quite the opposite really. People who love freedom have chosen people like Ron Paul, Rand Paul, Peter Schiff, and others as people they can trust. Ron Paul wasn't running for the presidency. The people were and Ron Paul was their avatar. Now, in his race, Rand Paul has become a representative of people who love liberty, because of his past integrity.

MEMO TO POLITICIANS: If you want people to campaign for you in a grass roots, guerrilla, bottom-up manner, be honest.

Now in response to this conservative uprising, Grayson's trying to pretend to be Anti-Establishment by saying he'll attack McConnell talking to the wall street journal. In the same breath he releases a press release attacking Rand for refusing to endorse Mitch for Senate Minority leader. ??
