Title: Plymouth Area Liberty Lovers
Post by: Jason Rand on November 14, 2006, 07:20 PM NHFT
Plymouth Area Liberty Lovers will be meeting at the Plymouth House of Pizza on Saturday, 11/18, at 5pm.  This will be an informal meet and greet, and brainstorming session for getting more regular meetings and activities going in this area.

For those who are interested, at 7pm we will be moving to A-Bit Computer Systems (just down the street) to log in and attend the Second Life party at the Gimme Liberty Bar (http://gimmeliberty.com).  The party is to celebrate bar owner Gimme Castro's signing of the First 1000.   There will be 2 extra computers set up with Second Life running for people to try, and wireless access for anyone who wants to bring a laptop.

What the fuck.  I spent two years going to Plymouth State University and couldn't find any liberty lovers to hang out with.  I thought everyone in that town were socialists.  I finally got fed up with learning nothing, and being surrounded by assholes that I left and now you say there will be meetings.  Oh well, the school would still suck either way I guess.

You're complaining because meetings are starting??  ::)

I added this to the calendar for you, Jason.

Kat, thanks for adding the meeting to the calendar.

Shawn, I'm really bummed that I never knew you were here!

Dreepa, I can think of 5 more for that list, and I've been told of even more indirectly.

I agree with Roger that the college is gold.   At some point I would like to see an umbrella group for NH College Liberty Lovers or something like that, with more coordination between Plymouth, Keene, and UNH for starters.

Anyone from Keene Free Minds want to come up to Plymouth and give us a show and tell on how to do it?

Yup, I'm wintering in Ashland... though even if I get a job in Manch or Concord, I might just move only a little bit south to take the bite off of the commute.  And hey, there's still a possibility I'll find something up this way, but I'm currently having more luck south of me.

But I will be there this Saturday, and I'll be bringing my girlfriend... hmm... we should be careful that we don't get pizza-ed out!!!  ;D

That is exactly what I meant.  I would have loved to have meetings up there when I was going to school.  Don't expect to get too many libertarians out of Plymouth State though, they are almost all socialist and will look at you like you have three heads.  I tried starting a club at the school and thought I would be burned at the stake in the process.

I woke up early this morning and couldn't get back to sleep, I was so excited about the good things I envision for the Plymouth area.  We had 10 people show up yesterday for pizza, conversation, and brainstorming.  We still need to come up with a good name, since we generally agreed that Plymouth Area Liberty Lovers could be improved upon (and I never meant for it to be permanent anyway).  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I too envision some great things.  I have been plagued by the whole name thing.  All I know is that it should have the words "Plymouth" and "Liberty" in there.  I agree that Plymouth Area Liberty Lovers can be improved upon.

Any suggestions would be great!

I would think that "PALL" would probably be an acronym one should shy away from (i.e., think "pallbearers").

Squam Lake Liberty Association? - SLLA
Tenney Mountain Libertarians? - TML
Plymouth Regional Liberty Group? - PRLG (haha, that looks like "prolog")
Lovers of Liberty That Abide In and Around Plymouth? - LoLTAIaAP

I suppose one question to ask is, how far does this region extend?  Is Plymouth considered the "hub" and therefore should be in the name, or what?

I like that name.  I think plymouth is the kind of the center of this area.  If you are determining the size of the area by plymouth regional high school then it would include Thornton, Campton, Plymouth, Wentworth, Rumney, Ashland, and Waterville Valley.  But for the sake of our cause I think it can be stretched a little larger.

Perhaps "Plymouth Regional" wouldn't be as good a name for it as it might make locals think it had something to do with the high school (which I'm sure we wouldn't mind--get 'em while they're young, right? ;)).

Hmm... how about...

Jason just gave me a call and pointed out this thread. I don't usually come into Lakes, I guess I will more often!
I was house sitting over the weekend so if would have been impossible for me to make this any way, but I'm bummed that I missed the second life event. I thought it was Friday and had connection problems.

Ah, well, I am still here in Plymouth on weekdays except most of Friday, and I'll be coming on this sub forum now too.

As for a name, I think something standard sounding would be fine, Plymouth region Libertarians, almost anything would be fine. The NRA's got an easy acronym.

I like mine:

Plymouth Regional Liberty Group.

But then, I'm biased.  ;)

We should probably just make a poll and let it go to a vote... or adopt multiple names for the same organization!!!  ;)

It's hard to name the Plymouth Area because it's sort of in the middle of nowhere. Not quite lakes, not quite White mountans, on the borderline of what is called Central NH versus Northern..

"Plymouth" is really all that fits unfortunately, and we can't call it metro because plymouth isnt a city.

Hey, have you guys considered inviting your State Reps?
They may or may not come, but you really need to bend *their* ears, not each others'.
Go ahead, call your reps, and tell them that:
a) a group of their constituents meet regularly to discuss political issues (Reps *should* want to plug in to that!!)
b) you'll pay for their pizza ($100/year only goes so far ;) )

If they "can't make it that day", give them a standing invitation, and re-invite them every month or so.

After all, it's by talking to anarchist wackjobs that I slowly became an anarcocapitalist (on odd-numbered days) myself.

Revolutionary People's Front of Judea

knock my socks off .... you may not shift the center of the revolution all the way up to your area .... maybe just up to concord

we will always be the front lines against the feds ..... we are closer to DC here in Keene .... but you guys could lob freedom shells from the safety of the rear

like I told the college group at Keene State .... do stuff .... don't just make bylaws and names .... actual activity will get things done and draw the crowds.

let your activity define you, not just your name

by the way .... I don't think the FSP has a welcome wagon set up in your area .... Jason you could contact Margot and help people that are moving in and need info and a real person to talk to. :)

How about a polycentric revolution?

I don't know if I'm ready for the pressure of being a real person, but I wouldn't mind talking to people.  Contacting Margot is on my list.
