Dartmouth area porcupine monthly meetings are now being scheduled: January's meeting will take place on Saturday, January 20, 2007. Time and place to be decided.
Great! :D
Awesome!!
Caleb and Lex, where do you live? I'm in Lebanon.
Grafton, NH
I can't do it on Sunday unless it's late in the evening. I can probably do it on Saturday at any time.
I have Grafton K9 Search and Rescue training every Sunday until 1800 (6pm).
Saturday is fine for me... Caleb?
I can do Saturdays. On rare occasions I have to work Saturdays (like once every 3 months or so), but it won't be anytime in January.
I live in Keene, but am willing to drive a little ways to get to meet some fellow porcs, and hang with the wonderful Lex and Anna clan.
Which Saturday works out best for you guys?
Cool!
1/20 is fine, or 1/13 or 1/27. :)
So how about this?:
Saturday, January 20, 2006
Noon
Yama Restaurant
96 Main St
West Lebanon, NH 03784
Fine with me! :D
I'm looking forward to it!
Sounds good!
I'll post on the dartmouth-porcs Yahoo group about this as well.

Ok so we now have Merrimack Valley, Monadnock Area, Seacoast Area, Concord, and Dartmouth Area...who am I missing?
Why do I think there is another group somewhere not in this list...
Does the Plymouth Liberty Network count?

YES! That is who I was thinking of but could not recall the name...
I've been 'under the influence' so forgive me, when are your meetings and I'll add them to the Liberty Calendar.
Our meetings aren't on a regular schedule...yet! Next meeting will be at my house, but I need to sit down with my son and our calendar and figure out when we're going to be home at the same time and schedule it.
I think we need to establish a consistent day/time/location.
Question about location...the last meeting was at Rainey's house. Next meeting will be at my/Tyler's house. I think it's more comfortable & cheaper to meet at someone's home, but seems like it might be less intimidating to newcomers to meet at a more public place. And, if we're going to publicize these meetings in hopes of getting more people to attend, then is it more appropriate to meet in a public place?
What do you think?

Doesn't really matter to us.

Well the other Porcs meet in pizza parlors or restaurants that have a lot of space...If there are not many of you, this would be a good idea. Then you don't have to worry about new people coming to your house that you don't quite know yet...
One consideration is that if you open up the meeting to any porcupines or anyone interested in the FSP, then you never know who will show up .... and if you want them in your living room.
It would be great if you set up a meeting once a month in Plymouth or wherever ... so we could promote it to outsiders and put it on calendars .... also keep talking it up in your regional forum here. :)
I am excited the Dartmouth crowd is getting regular meetings going. It will help visitors and movers.
I didn't know anyone was already meeting on a monthly basis before I suggested the meetup at Yama. Maybe I just wasn't tuned in to it but I hadn't heard or seen it publicized.
I think it's a good idea to have the meeting at a public place so anyone can join, and you're right - Yama is a pretty small restaurant. I just picked it because I thought not too many people would show up and they have superior sushi. :D
I think the Dartmouth area meeting should be held at:
Country Life Keene
15 Roxbury St
Keene, NH 03431

Hey Liberty Belle:
I hope you're not confused (or maybe I am)...the meetings I'm referring to are in the Plymouth region...
yea .... liberty bell, Caleb and the gang are just starting up the Dartmouth group. Happy Happy :)
Aha!
My mistake, I misunderstood. :D
Well whenever you guys decide to hold regular Dartmouth and Plymouth meetings let me know so I can post a recurring event on the NH Liberty Calendar.
Will do!
okey dokey
There are two listings on THIS Calendar for Dartmouth --- one is for the 21st..
Is this correct? (I had to fix it because it said 2006 not 2007)
Saturday, January 20, 2007
Noon
Yama Restaurant
96 Main St
West Lebanon, NH 03784
Yes, Jane. That information is correct. :)
Ditto, Jane - that is the correct info, and thanks for posting it on the calendar.
Show of hands, who's planning to show up? I'll also post to the Dartmouth Porcs Yahoo group. I'm just trying to get a head count so I can make a reservation at Yama, it is a pretty cozy place. :)
Stephanie
I am coming. Wes told me he was coming yesterday.
Great! Thanks.
maybe Babiarz .... maybe us.
Excellent! It would be great to meet you.

Yes he does. If he deletes the calendar item, the whole thread will go with it I think. So he can just change the date.
I think it is fixed now.
John and I are taking an EMT exam on Saturday. It starts at 9:00am and I'm not sure what time it ends but I can't imagine it taking more than a few hours so I think I'll still make it around noon. If not, you know why :-\
Considering recent events (Ed Brown) I think it would be best to cancel the monthly meeting and instead meet at Ed Brown's place to show support. Having said that I will probably go over to Eds after taking the EMT practicals, so I will not be at the meeting.
Hi Lex, I am sorry you won't be able to make it tomorrow. I know there were some people (Caleb, Matt) who were planning to come up from other parts of NH so I don't want to cancel on them with such short notice. I'm still up for meeting - while we're having lunch we can decide whether some or all of us want to go up to Plainfield afterward. What does everyone else think?
Russell, Kira and I were planning on leaving Ed Brown's for a while to come to the meeting.
That would be great, I would love to meet you. Let's definitely say the meeting is still on.
Great! We're looking forward to meeting you.
What time do you guys plan on dispersing? If I'm out of the exam early enough I may try to make it, otherwise I'll just head over to Ed's.
I expect the meeting will probably go until at least 1:30.
Thanks to everyone who came out to our first meeting today! We had a huge turnout (much more than I expected anyway!), about 20 people came! I really enjoyed meeting you.
For those who couldn't make it: our meeting was mostly informal. We had free staters from all over NH come (some on their way up to Ed Brown's house) and also some folks from New York and Rhode Island who have not moved to NH yet.
We did discuss HB 92, the marijuana decriminalization bill on which the NH house Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee heard testimony this Wednesday. HB 92 is currently in subcommittee and we discussed various ways to incite a public debate about marijuana decrim and how to help this bill out of committee and onto the house floor.
We also discussed Ed Brown's situation and national media coverage given to his case.
Kat was kind enough to bring some copies of the Keene Free Press which I will distribute at/around Dartmouth.
Our next meeting will be Saturday 2/17, same time same place if everyone else who is interested in coming is OK with scheduling it then (and keeping the same venue - maybe we should change, the food was great but admittedly it was a big small!). At our next meeting we will bring up more ideas for activism in the Upper Valley and all over NH.
:) Very cool.

D'oh, should have plugged it myself. Please, sign and tell your friends!
Wow, 20 people at Yama? Did the waiters have to wait outside? Glad y'all had a big turnout -- it's exciting to hear!
I think they were saying, "uhh, I believe we're breaking lots of fire codes but who cares, we're getting a ton of business!" (in Korean, of course).
We missed you!
Hi Everybody,
I was still planning to have our next meeting next Saturday, but if 20 people show up again it might be a good idea to meet someplace that has more room so we can all sit together. Can I get a rough idea of who wants to come?
Stephanie
I don't think there will be 20. Let me check to see if we are coming.
Someplace without dead fish!
Those live fish are so hard to keep on a plate.
What with their flopping and all.
In some Asian countries people eat soup that contains live baby eels.
Kat, Kira and I will be coming.

I can't attest to that personally, but my friend from Japan says they feel pretty weird... he says the trick is to slurp them down as fast as possible.
OK, the feedback I've gotten says:
1) The vast majority of folks who came last time came from points south. Should we move our venue to somewhere more toward Grantham, Grafton, Sunapee, or somewhere thereabouts? Does anybody have a suggestion for a place where we could all sit together and talk in that area?
2) Japanese food is expensive and not everyone likes it. Would anyone just want to meet up at a coffee house and get drinks instead of food? We could change the time to later in the afternoon if everyone wants to, maybe 3:00 - I know there were a few people who couldn't make the noontime meeting last time. Suggestions for a place are welcome.
I'll post this on the Yahoo group too, and we'll get a definite time and place worked out within the next few days.

You might get a totally different makeup this time.
We are from Keene and West Leb is better than Hanover by a little bit. Other places farther East might be good for others, but no better for us. It would have to be all the way down in Newport to be better for us.
Since this group is for and by guys from your area, then make it best for that area and if some of us want to come ... we can suffer.
The last place was decent ... they were friendly and my meal was inexpensive. Anyone can choose to turn a restaurant into a coffee shop and just order something small or not at all. :) I like choosing places for location, seating, and friendly staffs. 8)
Where are we meeting this time?
We might not have as many, so we can fit in the last place.
Good points, Russell. Yes, I like to patronize Yama - they are nice people there and they work hard. Why don't we keep our meeting at Yama and keep the time at 12 noon (please try to be prompt).

We will visit Ed Brown and hang out with the porcupine crew. I wonder if Ed could ever get out to come to parties. Nah ... that would be too complicated. ;)

Oh yea, this is awesome!
I gotta get in touch with Dave Mincin about what he's been doing with his group for civic action/community service type activities. I'd love to start doing some of that with our group. Anyone who can't make it to the meeting on Saturday have any ideas or favorite local charitable organizations they like to support?
There is a half marathon for the Children's Hospital at Dartmouth coming up this summer: http://dhmcalumdev.hitchcock.org/NetCommunity/Page.aspx?&pid=401&srcid=407
There's also the Good Neighbor clinic (unfortunately it's over the river in VT) which as far as I know is entirely (or very nearly entirely) privately funded via donations from businesses and individuals, and provides health care to poor and uninsured people. They are staffed by volunteer doctors, nurses, medical students, etc. They do a lot of preventative care which I like. I work there and I think they are very well-run. We could probably find some way to raise money for them.
We could also do a fund raiser for the Liberty Scholarship.
Just throwing some ideas out before our meeting.
I think Mincin did some caroling for old folks at Christmastime. They also do the litter pickup on the highway.
Those are good ideas. I guess it's best to keep it as local as possible. There are a lot of places with assisted living for elderly people around Hanover that we could try to get involved with.
There's also Cover home repair, which I believe is similar to Habitat for Humanity, which we could get involved with. That would be a good weekend type activity.
I've always though it would be cool if a bunch of us gave blood on the same day, wearing FSP T-Shirts.
That's a great idea, Lloyd!
DHMC does blood donations, there is more info here: http://www.dhmc.org/webpage.cfm?site_id=2&org_id=91&gsec_id=0&sec_id=0&item_id=2008
Open weekdays:
Monday, Tuesday, & Wednesday: 7:00 am to 4:30 pm
Thursday: 7:00 am to 6:00 pm
Friday: 7:00 am to 2:30 pm
Email: DHMC.Blood.Program@Hitchcock.Org
We could try to get an idea of how many people would be willing/able to do this (since they are only open on during the weekdays it seems) and I could email the coordinator to make sure they could accommodate a big group. This is a good thing to bring up at our meeting Sat. and if there is enough interest I'll put out an email to everyone with a date and time.
We might be able to come this Saturday.
Hey Peace .... can you come to the party?
Saturday? Probably won't make it. I'll be too busy UNPACKING. :) Or maybe shooting, or drinking, or something else.
When I came up with this idea, I was thinking Porc's could do it 'statewide' preferably on the same day, again wearing shirts that identify us. I was thinking Red Cross. I see the RC is not everywhere in NH. I, personally would like to donate to an organization that didn't charge for the blood. I don't know if DHMC charges for blood.
Lloyd
Cathy welcome.... make sure you inform the FSP that you moved to NH so that they can change the counter.
Lloyd it would be cool but I think it would 'disperse' the results (if you want publicity) because 3-4 in each spot won't do it.
It might be a good idea to have the RC (or other) come up and do it on the Saturday at Porcfest.... I think that the RC usually wants about 50-60 pints when they send a mobile unit.
I was going to give on Monday but I was sick. >:(

I just noticed this is a Japanese/Korean restaurant. Not my favorite because I am not a fan of pickeling/soy sauce. Love Thai, Indian, Persian, Pakastani, Ethiopian, etc., just about anything but Japanese/Korean. Do you think there is enough variety in the menu for me to find something I like?
Well, I don't know your tastes, they have a lot of dishes that aren't made with strong sauses, as well as sushi and sashimi. I'm sure you could request to get one of their dishes with the sauce left off if you'd like.

See you there!

Hi Stephanie,
I'm curious what people are doing about the scheduling conflict between the Brown Demonstration and the Porc Meeting?
http://forum.soulawakenings.com/index.php?topic=8100.0
Aw crap, I had no idea that this was going on at the same time! :-( Thanks for bringing this up, Rob.
Uh, well since I'd been planning this meeting for a while and I know some people who may want to make it and won't see this post in time, I will still have the meeting at 12 tomorrow. I guess people can head over to the demo afterward if they want (we can try to make the meeting short). Except Kat - she probably doesn't want to sit around and look at a bunch of food...
If a few people ask, I can get to Yama earlier for anyone who wants to try to start early in the interest of ending early. I'm pretty disorganized this month - I don't even know who's coming!
So, speak up everyone, who's planning to come and do you have any strong preferences about the time?
I'm planning on being there about noon.
Cool, thanks Mike! Yea, I think just sticking to noon is best anyway.
Does someone in our group have the license plate CAPTNMAL? Mike? I found one in the parking lot... I have it if someone wants to claim it.
It's not mine.

That is a great plate!!!
Thanks for coming this weekend, everyone.
Let's meet next on 5/26, same time, same place. I'm looking forward to it.
And I'm quite curious who CAPTNMAL is. :-)
Stephanie
PS: Caleb, please do the honors and put the next one on the calendar if you could. :-)
I'm not Caleb, but I put it on the calendar for you.
Thanks, Kat!
I'd like to get to some of the other PORC meetings. Maybe I'll come to the one on 5/26. I assume non-Dartmouth area PORCs can show up?
;D
Hey Quantrill,
You are absolutely welcome to come to our next meeting! I'd love to meet you. Actually, there are probably just as many Keene-dwellers as Dartmouth area people who typically show up. I'm sure it would be easy to hitch a ride if that's where you live. :-)
Stephanie
ManchVEGAS, baby!
Maybe I can bring 1 or 7 of my roommates with me...

Hey, I'll be happy to tag along. I would even have gone this time around had anybody in the house been interested.
The more the merrier!
You should definitely come, Michael! Remember we met at Kevin's party after Liberty Forum? It would be great to see you. :-)
Quantrill, I don't think we've ever met each other before, right?
Quantrill's new boy, but I'm glad he's here.

Of course I remember! How could I possibly forget! :)
I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it this weekend. We have a big project at work. :'(
Aww, we'll miss you...
So, who's planning to come?

I think Quantrill and I are still coming.
Excellent!
When and where is this meeting?
Hi Lloyd, Here it is...
Dartmouth Area Porcupine Meeting
Saturday, May 26th
12:00 Noon
Yama Restaurant
96 Main St
West Lebanon, NH 03784
Stephanie
Me and Error should both be there, if Error wakes up in time! If not, I'm coming solo...
:)

Actually the question is whether YOU will wake up in time!! ;D
Chance I will be there
Didn't make it. The Engine show I went to first was a big one and took some time to walk thru,
Still a decent turnout with 8 people showing up.

Lloyd! You didn't invite me!?!?!? >:(
Where was this! And when is it next year!?!?! ;D
Bernardston, MA. I joined the Granite State Gas and Steam Engine Association last year. They are not online. Their first show this year is at Cannon mountain. Here's a list of NE shows for this year.
Interestingly enough, The first half dozen people I met yesterday were from NH, including the VP of GSG&SA. I had my FSP hat and an NHLA T shirt, but, nobody threw anything at me.
I find it hard to commit an entire weekend, but, I have thought of exhibiting my engine and use the opportunity for FSP recruitment outside of NH and outreach inside NH. The summer weekends are so damn busy!
http://www.bellshome.com/shows.htm
The two biggest and best shows are the ones in Orange, Ma and the September show in Kent, CT.
Thanks for your outreach efforts Lloyd!!!!
Much appreciated!
Well.....it was sort of an accident. The shirt was next in the rotation and the I wear the hat while driving to keep the wind from doing horrible things to my hair and failed to remove it when I parked.
I didn't discuss much..... I was, pretty much, just a FSP & NHLA guy without any horns.
Still...
Kudos!
I was somewhat disappointed that there was only one (I think) person from the area there. Maybe it was just a bad month.
Actually half of us were from the area.
Opps.
Good thing I didn't come. I might have shifted the balance negatively
Any meeting this month?
This would be the Saturday for the meeting right?
We will be in the area ... and can make it happen.
We are looking at restaurants right now.
Kat and I will be at Panera Bread in West Lebanon at 11:15nhft (Noon Government Time) :) today 7/21/07 if anyone would like to join us.
Afterward we will be touring the Canaan/Grafton area visiting lots in that area of "The Shire". 8)
I thought the meeting was the last Saturday of every month.
Not that I know of.
We are doing one today.
You can also do one on the last Saturday, if you wish. :)
Somebody should post these in advance. A few of us have to actually make plans if we want to go to West Lebanon.
It was nice meeting Kat and Russell. We haven't gotten together in a while. I agree that it was short notice, we had like 20 minutes notice. We were 15 minutes late, but thankfuly K&R were 45 minutes late so it worked out okay :P
I'm starting to look for a place to rent in this area. Please let me know when next meeting it. It seems the yahoo group for area is dead.
- Hardy
3rd saturday of the month, noon.

I guess Stephanie is gone for the summer and the group died without her. I don't think there was a June meeting.
We will be at the meetings most of the time since we are moving into the northern portions of The Shire soon. :)
Where would you guys like to meet next month? We could even do it outside. :)

Where in the nortern part are you moving to?
grafton area
Is anyone interested in meeting this month? If yes .... offer a location .... if not, we will wait until next month when we are living there.
I called that one a while ago ;)
I saw you and kat in grafton a couple weeks ago...about the time you made the post about moving soon.
since noone has mentioned that they are interested in this meeting ... we will wait until next month ... maybe Stephanie will be back and she can resume them.
You didn't say hi?
OMG, I should have. By the time I thought to ask you and russell to sign the KFP, and do an interview, it was too late, and I was in the middle of something more important(going to the swiming hole). :-\

Did you go to the Bab's place?
Well, our interview schedule is pretty tight :P ::)
Hey guys, sorry for the lapse in Dartmouth area meetings over the summer... I see there was a bunch of confusion about meeting dates/times and stuff. That's my fault, sorry. :-(
Anyway, it's been way too long, so I would like to propose a meeting on 10/21 (Sunday) at 1 PM at Yama. What does everyone think?
I think you don't spend enough time around here, and one meeting every few months isn't enough! :)
Yes, you are right... it would be good if I didn't fail out of medical school though ;) Seriously, NH needs at least one doctor who doesn't lobby for smoking bans and socialist health care!
Absolutely and thank you! :) I think I'll be up in your neck of the woods next weekend. We should have lunch or something.
sounds fine
maybe we need one for september also ... where should we hold it?
How about 9/22? Russell, did you want to try a place closer to Grafton? Did you move yet?
on 9/22 we are having a barnraising
we could have a party at noon at "Mom and Dad's" in Canaan ... some of will just be working before and after that time.
or we could do it on Sunday the 16th to keep with the 3rd weekend of the month theme :)
Is that place open after noon on weekends?
Sure, the 16th is OK for me, I also like the party idea though. It's up to you Russell and Kat, you're the guests of honor as new movers to hobbitville. :)
Lloyd, did you mean Yama? It is open after noon on the weekends.
No, I meant the place in Canaan
I can probably make the 16th, if I'm not in jail or dead!
It wouldn't be the first time someone has missed the meeting due to being in jail ;)
I will check with Mom and Dad's on their times for that day.
Let's have a get2gether on the 16th. Where should we go?
Because I don't get out much the only restaurants I know are in the Hanover/Lebanon area. :) I wish I had something better to suggest, but since nobody else has offered up anything for the 16th, we could go here: http://www.jesses.com/
It's pretty good, and they have an unlimited salad bar (you can make a whole meal out of that).
The only thing is, we'd have to go for dinner because they are closed for lunch on the weekends.
Just a reminder (not that all care) there is a big event in Manchester on the 16th and many people may also be volunteering for the NHLA/CNHT day at the races.

I can't talk about it on this board.
Russell can't see the big event on the 16th (http://newhampshireunderground.com/forum/index.php?topic=9612.0). :)
Is 6:00 ok?
Yay, it's been way too long since the last time I saw you guys. :D

We will be doing work at our lot ahead of time, but will be hitting the salad bar hard in the evening.
I look forward to seeing you again Stephanie. Welcome back to Dartmouth for the fall. I bet it is fun to get back and start seeing the leaves change right away. :)
Cool! I'm looking forward to it too. :D
Yea, I noticed that the leaves are changing really early this year. Personally, I think the government should pass a law prohibiting trees from changing their leaves before Oct. 1st.
So is anyone else planning to show up on Sunday?
PatK and Lloyd that I know of
Jesse's in Hanover (actually right on the Lebanon/Hanover border); http://www.jesses.com/ should have the address.
Hope to see you there!
If I show up before 6, I can eat one of the "sunset specials". mmm
Whoa those look good!!
Why don't we all show up at 5? ;D
I will plan on it.
Woo!! Lobster and anarchy!! :icon_pirat:
I'm not sure if I'll be able to make 5:00. I should be there by 6:00 though if everyone will still be there.
Are reservations not required?!
We'll be there. :)
Good point - I just made a reservation for 5:00 tomorrow night. I said 10 people...
The reservation is under "Stephanie" if you show up and can't find us.
I liked the food and the building was great.
See you guys next month at yama.
I started a new thread so I can actually post our meeting to the calendar: http://newhampshireunderground.com/forum/index.php?topic=10895.0
sounds good.... maybe you can post them to the nhporc announce list also :)
