I'm getting ready for my move (still months away) and was wondering if anyone knows of any adult basketball leagues or open gyms happening around Keene. Also, is there an indoor tennis facility in Keene? Not pressing issues or anything, but I like to stay physically active.
Thanks,
Jeremy
The rec center has basketball. If you want to hang out with freestaters in Manchester, Keith started up a sports club.
Oh and there's a porcupine hiking group http://groups.yahoo.com/group/libertytreks/. Lots of great hiking in NH. Quite a few people ski too.
I am thinking of playing basketball at the rec center all year. They have some open court time and some games. It is not like the big city where the gym is all locked up. :)

This website claims there is indoor and outdoor tennis. I've seen the outdoor courts. Indoor might be at the YMCA.

How is the rec center funded?
Government. I use the government library, too, but I give them a donation every year.
Thanks guys, sounds great. I LOVE downhill skiing and can't wait to visit all the places around NH and VT. What places do people from Keene usually go to? I was looking up all the ski resorts awhile ago. It seems like there was a small one in Keene and several not too far away.
There is an old railroad trail that bisects town. You can walk/run/mountain bike for 40 miles in either direction. In the winter it's a snowmobile trail. There is pickup basketball on the two courts just built about two years ago right net to the rail-trail near downtown. Indoor tennis is at a private club near Norm's ski shop and another in Peterborough (30 min). The YMCA only has racquetball. There are no public paddle/platform tennis courts (I wish). Nearby skiing at Crotched Mountain (45 min), Pat's Peak (45 min) Mt. Sunapee (1 hr), Okemo (1 hr 15 min) Stratton (1 hr 15 min)...There was a plan for a new indoor arena and ice rink, but the wretched city council killed it because they couldn't stomach two sides of the building to be metal.
Isn't there a ski place on Rt. 9 just east of Keene?
Yeah, I hear it's considered small though.
Closer than 45 minutes

I would have to pay the higher fee .... since I am not a Keene taxpayer. :)

That does look like fun, but if I move to Manchester I won't be part of operation Free Keene ;D.
maybe at the next MVPorc meeting they can give an update on their sports thing in Manchestahhh.
I have an update after last night's dodgeball game:
Keith throws like a girl. :)
