Title: Interior Designer Moving to NH looking for Architect/Engineer Contacts
Post by: craineum on May 30, 2007, 03:59 PM NHFT
Hello all,

My wife and I are planning to move in '08.  She is an Interior Designer who will be starting her own biz doing such work.  We are looking for FSP/Liberty friendly Architect/Engineers to link up with for getting drawings stamped, and to feed off each others work.  We will be coming for PorcFest and it would be good to connect.  If you are such a person or know of such a person please let me know!

Thanks

Why would you want someone to stomp on your drawings? :o ;D

I'm not aware of any state requirement that you have to get interior designs certified by an engineer, but I don't really deal with that side of the industry, so take that for what it's worth.

Keep in touch, as it would be good to network regarding heating changes in remodels, and designs for new construction.  There are a lot of nice things out there (towel warmers, panel radiators, etc.) that heat as well or better than plain old baseboard heat.  Cost is a little higher, but I'd expect that most people who hire a professional designer probably have a bit of money involved in the project.

She does space planning and structural layouts all in CAD, she can do the HVAC/Electrical/Plumbing/etc... plans as well (although she would rather partner with someone to do these), however she is not an architect or engineer, and usually to get permits you need to have those things stamped by someone who is licensed.

At least that is how it works here in Georgia.  Maybe it works differently there?

I would check into it, if I were you.  I've seen plenty of mere sketches get approved by the permit folks.  One was even on the back of a permit form, making it pretty obvious that the homeowner had gone into the office, found out that they required a print of the proposed addition, and then sketched it on the back of a spare form.

I've been playing with AutoCAD a bit and have significant interest in helping to both design and build houses. Perhaps with MaineShark and a few more people we could get a fully capable design firm off the ground and a separate construction firm for building. I do know one certified architect, but he's not involved in the FSP and he's not in NH. May be a resource, however.

Look forward to meeting you at the Porcupine Festival.
