Ash he milled himself from a tree on our property. Sapele Mahogany and Rosewood from an exotic wood place.
Hand cut dove tail joints.

Speaking of Lee-Enfield rifles...
I was in Navy Junior ROTC in High School. We used to be able to use the indoor .22 rifle range at the National Guard Armory... Until this dumb ass kid brought in his .303 and shot a hole through the backstop.

Nice. What was the oil?

Boiled linseed oil. Then dark wax.

That's the traditional finish for Lee-Enfield rifles, which many call a "BLO-job". The trick is rubbing your wood with oil until it gets hot. 

Once a day for a week, once a week for a month, once a month for a year, once a year forever.

I friend who was big into sailing had the same saying.
