Actually I wasn't trying to save money, I just thought it would be a cool thing to test. But if it were true, it would represent a siginificant savings (percentage-wise): it would result in 32 AA batteries for about $3.50, whereas AA batteries on their own cost maybe $6-8 for 8-24 non-rechargable batteries.
