OK there are tons of sales today only, so why in this list are 'projection' LCD TVs so much cheaper? Is there something wrong with a 'projection' TV that is not as good as a straight LCD TV?

Sony Bravia 52" @ $2499

Sharp 52" @ $2199

Mitsubishi 57" DLP @ $1199

Toshiba 65" DLP @ $1499

dan is shopping for a new tv too, i think projection means that it is too big to be a flat screen and cant be hung on the wall, doesnt it have tubes in it?

our big tv blew up 2 weeks ago, and its a rear projection..

but i gots NO idea what i am talking about, i will send Dan this way.

Projection TV's a large boxes with a projector inside. A flat-panel LCD is like a laptop computer monitor.

OK well plasma and projection are soooooooooo much cheaper I'm thinking there is something wrong with them.

There are tons of one-day sales and I'm leaning toward a Sony Bravia 52" or a Mitsubishi 73"

Edit: Scratch the Mitsu -- it's a projection model...

Really at Circuit City, tell Dan that the Sony Bravia W series for $2499 is the best deal...

Go look at a projection TV.  Usually they are gigantic, have a dim picture, and you can't see the picture unless you are directly in front of it.

Ah OK that's right. My dad's last one was like that and it sucked....even if you were up close it was hard to see from the side.

I think I do have my mind set on the Sony...now looking for a stand for it.
My friend was in CC in NYC and was looking at them for me and he said, he could not get near them the line was so long and TVs were going out the door.. these apparently are only one day sales.

Sony no Baloney... they make good stuff. I am always happy with Sony and they have real nice skintones/color is warm and pleasant to look at.

I'll take your word for it.  ;)

Not so many stands that fit a 52" though...

I think you want the highest resolution you can get with the Lcd. I think you want 1080 vs the 720 for HD. I think that is written like 2000 x 1000 vs 1400 x 700. I'm not sure exactly about all that but that was my take. I'm going to wait a few more months and see what I get for the $$ then.

It's 1080p you want, and this has it.

I shopped extensively for a large TV recently.  Projection LCDs suck for the reasons stated previously.  We finally went for a 52" Panasonic plasma.  Yes, plasma has its drawbacks (they consume a lot of power), but the value was better and the color depth, and viewing angle were unsurpassed.  Go to the stores and look at the units.  Two TVs with comparable paper specs can appear quite different.

When it came time to buy, the new unit went for about $2,400.  Floor models were available for about $1,800.  We went to Amazon.com and got a brand new last year's model for about $1,550 and it solved the problem of getting it home.  Don't buy it in the store.  Look in the store, then buy online.

I did and I chose the 52" Sony Bravia. I figure this will be great to watch all the election returns!
