Linux Install Help

Just a reminder, I'm doing discounted GNU/Linux installs this month (ends Friday) for $20/hour (or 1oz/hour).

Whether you're looking for greater security, switching for the pro-liberty stance of software freedom, or just want your computer to work properly without constant adware/botnets/viruses I can get you running. Services can include transferring your files, getting the applications you need installed, getting all your peripherals (wifi cards, printers, etc) setup, or basic instruction.

The software is gratis (no cost), all the upgrades are gratis and are easy to do, and it'll run on virtually any working computer.

The porcs who've taken advantage of this offer already can vouch for my work & efficiency.  I've been installing and servicing Linux systems for over a decade and, prior to moving, managed a computer recycling center (with all the diverse computer hardware that came through) for over 5 years.

Since the holidays increase demand the rate goes back up to $50/hour (or 3oz/hour) in December.

$20 per hour???  What a bargain.  That was the going rate back in the early 90s!!!!
Now if only we could get a decent ISP in Pittsburg.

ArcRiley

My rate is normally $50/hour.

Me too what a coincidence! What certs do you have, if any? I want to get some distro certification and/or a A+ so I can jack it up to 75 or 100/hr.

I've been in triple digits before, but I've become a slacker...  ;)

Certs are meaningless scams for your money, so many teenagers and college students have them that don't know what they're doing that, if anything, having them says that your experience isn't enough to stand on it's own.  Any company hiring technical staff based on their certs, well, it's a bad omen for the competency of your potential coworkers.  That'd be like hiring people based solely on their "take at home" college e-course degrees.

The market is pretty simple to understand; when you need more clients you charge less, when you've got all the clients you can handle you raise your price, refer those who can't afford it to less expensive consultants, and hold a work threshold that you're comfortable with.  It's the same with any form of consulting, not just computers.

OK I'll keep that under advisement. What certs do you have?

Certs? I know what I'm doing, I don't need any certs!

13 years of experience, 11 of GNU/Linux, with a long trail of satisfied clients.  ;)

Also that I work with all these distros daily, I have at least one system running each on my desk, working directly with the package systems and actively develop software on/for them.

In the last five years alone I've personally installed over 700 separate systems, mostly through the computer recycling center I managed, and almost every one of those were unique.

To this, paying a couple hundred dollars to take some silly certification test showing that I know how to recover from a failed apt-get is kinda pointless.  See my point?  Experience, and active involvement, trumps vendor certification.

I also take far fewer words to express the same concept. :) But, then again, I'm not offering my services to the general public...
