Thought you guys might enjoy these pictures of a pitbull that got into a fight with a porcupine.  The pictures came from an email forwarded many times, and I am not personally acquainted with the pitbull or its owner.

A vet sedated the dog, and then removed a total of 1,347 quills.
The dog survived, and hopefully learned a valuable lesson.......

Don't mess with Porcupines !!!

even when a dog meets a porc, they DONT learn their lesson.

a few years ago, camping in the white mountains, I awoke to a truck pulling up to my camp site, thinking it was a ranger, i wasnt thrilled to be woekn up at 12am..  Come to find out, it was a friend of mine, who lives in the area, his lab/pointer mix sniffed a porcupine... Three people held the dog down while i took pliers and pulled close to 100 out of his face, mouth, lips, ears and tongue.  It was on a weekend, and at night, no emergency place was close by, or even open.  The dog was scratching madly at his face.  He was very hard to hold down, this 40lb dog..  It was funny when it was all over and done with!  I gave the dog my supply of emergency antibiotics, following week, dog went to the vets to get checked out, only a few quills remained, vet said good job.  I can see why they sedate the dogs.. those quills are very hard to pull out, if you touch them the wrong way, they go deeper!  They have barbs on them, making it difficult to remove..

Outchy.

Update: according to Snopes, the dog is actually a female bull terrier.

Beth221

pit bulls and bull terriers are in the same group of dogs, "terriers" aka Porcupine chasers.

This is a pretty old story. I do understand that not everyone has seen the same stuff so I'll allow it.

Also, dogs are stupid.

Beth221

yes, i agree, Dogs are stupid.  mine keeps on trying to commit suicide, once by eating a chemical dryer sheet, once by messing with a over protective mommy horse, a few cars, and 2.5lbs of BACON.

She would totally eat bacon in great amounts given the chance, its a great way to die.

What happened, did she get kicked in the head? Because that would be totally stupid!

she got too close to a newborn foal, the mare picked her up with her teeth, and tossed her out of the paddock.
