Today's economic news is that the Kleptocracy of Nevada is all but admitting that their INSOLVENT...

The best advice I've read about getting through the coming SHIFT, is make sure you keep on eating, and focusing on preparing your own meals with a thought about proper nutrition for your body.

Once  I found I had drank up all my food money for the weekend, just before the weekend started. So here's one simple inexpensive dish, which, frankly, can be pretty pathetic, but it's filling.

1 cup brown rice
1 cup lentils (as of late half lentils and half split yellow peas)
about 5 cups water.
bring to a boil and simmer.

it tastes a lot better with garlic powder or cumin.

over time, i've expanded it by starting out with sauteing some onion and garlic, celery and carrot first. and just about anything left in the fridge.

i've only thrown in some frozen fish so for you meat addicts ??? also a nice touch is to throw some broccoli in on top for the last 15 minutes and get a 'little green' stuff for a vitamin and mineral fix.

but, in my general experience, you can cut costs by spending a bit of time prepping foods from a more natural state and avoiding the processed crud.

Hi, thanks for the comment. I'm really really trying to leave 'nasty' behind, and focus on positive.

RE: macrobiotics and other food schemes.  offhand, that and "diets" seem to be cultist claptrap. not, that some people don't do better on THEIR special diet. But, as far as I ascertain, there's no 'one size fits all' type of nutrition advice.

gosh darn, we're individuals aren't we ?

And as to 'survivalism', yeah there are some good reasons to stock a pantry and have extra items of stuff you'll actually use... really, but what's the point of storing wheat berries and dried beans... if you really buy all the kids 'happy meals' to shut them up. (okay so I won't eat at McDung's...and think it ought to closed as a public health menace and an affront to good taste :>)

survival meal

Some Rice
Can of Tuna
Can of Diced Tomatoes

heat and eat.  this was his 'backup meal' while living in a cabin in Alaska anytime his "plans" went awry.
