Hello.
I've been working on the moving guide for the FSP.  It is on the underground wiki at the moment.  It is also not finished.  I'm looking for ideas, more info, and an opinions on it.  Please post your thoughts and ideas here for me.  This will be posted on the FSP web site and print copies for people attending Liberty Forum and PorcFest.  I'm looking for conventional and alternative information to help people get organized and move here.

Thanks Kate

I noticed that this forum is referred to as "NH Free Forum", and the address listed is "http://nhfree.com".  The NHFree address actually redirects to this forum, and the actual address is http://newhampshireunderground.com/forum.

Unless I am mistaken, the the NHFree address may soon be separated from NHU (not sure about that, though).

I'm not sure how this rumor started, but it's completely false.   :P

That's a great idea Kate! :)  What kinds of ideas are you looking for?  I mean I would suggest visiting a couple of times at least and give a lot of thought on the reasons your moving here for, I'll give some examples that I can think of off the top of my head.

1. Survival for when/if the SHTF, take into consideration the cold weather, so therefore alternative heating should be a must with the house you buy or if your planning on going up into the mountains when/if it gets real bad, what shelter would you use, warmth, can you hunt good?  There is more wildlife here in NH than let's say Maryland so that's a plus if you know how to hunt, gut an animal, know what times of the season it's safe to eat a particular animal, etc.

2.  To get more involved in legislation, protests, court things, then you might want to pick southern NH where that kind of action is.  I can honestly say I wish we had given that one more thought.

3.  We moved here without any job, it got scary and we got lucky before we were totally broke but what if Rick didn't find a job?  You might want a definite job before making the move especially if you have kids.

That's all I can think for now but am I going in the right direction as to what your asking for?

Thanks everyone.
Please keep the ideas coming.

The idea of the guide is to have information for people who want to move or are going to move to New Hampshire.  The idea is to have a lot of moving information in one spot so they don't have to do all research from scratch.
The idea of moving out of state is very scary to most people.  I thought a guide of what you need to take care of and resources to do it would be very helpful and save people time.  I'm hoping it will help people get here faster.

Let me know if you have any more ideas of things for the guide.
Thank you.

I'm hoping to get heating information from Maineshark in terms of heating and alternatives.

I'd love information and more links than I've got on alternative energy.

Good thought.

I've put some of that in but I'll add some more on that subject.

Thanks and keep them coming.

What am I missing in the guide?

Please let me know what would be useful that I haven't put in there yet.

Does any one know where I can find a complete list on NH private schools?
Kate

www.greatschools.net is a pretty helpful web page - you might be able to find an easier-to-read list out there but this website lets you search by zip, city, or county and lists all public and private schools. it also gives them ratings and lists the student-to-teacher ratio

Heres what I found.  Let me now if you find more.

The only area I know is Keene. They have one very reasonably priced (about $2,500/year) Christian School connected with the Lutheran church which has a new building and is growing. There are also 2 expensive ones .... Waldorf and Montessori.

The public schools in Keene are shrinking and the private ones are growing. One of the Keene school board members wants to close one of the elementary schools .... it is right down the street from the lutheran one ... it would be cool if they just bought that one from the taxpayers. :)
