... I think the article Seth posted, while informative about Tolkien, was horrible. It seemed to make some rather curious logical jumps, that basically amount to the argument that violence is necessary to keep people from using other more constrictive forms of social pressure, as if violence is not itself a form of social pressure. His point is well taken, as long as it is understood like this: Anarchism is not utopia.

I think his other point was even better: anarchy also isn't bomb-throwing.

Quote from: Seth-quoting-Tolkien
"My political opinions lean more and more to Anarchy (philosophically understood, meaning abolition of control not whiskered men with bombs)..."

I'm trying to come up with different ways of presenting anarchism to people in a way that makes it seem more normal.

I would suggest presenting it as a shape-shifting black and gold monster with arms where his ears should be and ears where his feet should be.

A communist is, by definition, an anarchist. The problem with communists is that a lot of them are Marxists. Marxism advocates installing anarcho-communism via an intermediary stage of totalitarian socialism.

Voluntary collectivism.

I learned something, and I'm not through my first coffee!  Thanks Caleb, Jeremey.

Yeah, that's my second choice. I just worry that there might be some weird people who don't find that normal.  ;D

For awhile, I was using the Gump expression, "Anarchy's like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get."  Accurate, but somehow not comforting.  >:D

You could even say that anarchy is the absence of bomb-throwing  ;)

Technically probably true, but how about this? You know what you're NOT going to get, and that is some really bad abuses of power originating from false authority constructs. You can prolly find a better way to say that but you get the idea.

Said in your best Forrest Gump voice:

"Anarchy's like a box of chocolates. A box of chocolates also doesn't have abuses of power originating from false authority constructs."

I like it. Catchy.  ;D

Would you post that as a comment on my site? I love it and you should get credit for it.

I can't really take credit for it. It was just a gump quote, that I modified slightly, and then incorporated your definition of anarchy. Since so little of it is mine, its really more yours. Kind of a collaborative thing. But I will post it.  :)

Modified:  Where do you want me to post it? The comment doesn't seem on topic for your latest comic. Is there a general comment area that I'm not finding?

Uhm... I don't know. I think one of the recent ones featuring the Anarchy Boogie-man would be good.

I'm actually tempted to do a comic of it now. Maybe you should hold off.

watch out ... everything you say might show up in a cartoon

Anarchism is peace.  It cannot survive long under continous conflict.  Remember, war is the health of the state, making it and conflict in general the death of anarchy, peace.
