Please take some of my free ad space. It looks ugly with "Your ad here" on my site. :) It's very easy to make an account on Project Wonderful and very easy to fund it.

Per the recommendation of some other webcomic people, I have added Project Wonderful ads to my site. The cool thing about these is they are totally market based. There is no charge for click throughs. You pay for the time the ad is there, which means you don't get charged more for making an effective ad. It works like eBay. You bid on an ad space and your ad remains in that spot for as long as you're the highest bidder. Bids are for 24 hours of time and it can even be pro-rated to a portion of a day. So if someone outbids you, they pro-rate the cost for the amount of time your ad remained.

Here's the thing. My ads are brand new. Until someone bids something, you can get free ad space by being the default bidder. I think you may even be able to bid zero cents and get the space. I'm certain you can bid 1 cent and get it for free. Because it works like eBay, your bid is exactly whatever it takes to outbid the 2nd highest bidder up to your maximum. In other words, you can be bidding $10 a day for one of my ads but if you're the only bidder, it's still free for you. As soon as someone else bids something, your bid will be raised just enough to outbid them up to $10.

It's first-come first-served for ties. That means if you're the first person to bid on a space, then you're the default. So go grab a free ad and when all the other bids run out or cancel, your ad will come back!

Good news and bad news. Good news is I no longer have those ugly "your ad here" placeholders on my site. They've all been filled by people I don't know. :) Mostly webcomics which doesn't surprise me.

Bad news is I had to change the subject line because there are non-zero bids, albeit very small. However, you can STILL bid zero or one cent on a particular ad space. People place bids for a period of time and when that runs out, it drops down to the next lowest bidder. I'd love to have liberty-oriented ads, and at the very least, I'd prefer some of my freedom-loving friends got those spaces when they're free. I've seen free ads on a lot of sites that have decent traffic so this is not as far-fetched as it might seem. I think a lot of advertisers just aren't aware that they can bid below the current amount and grab an ad space at a later time. Maybe they didn't read up on Project Wonderful well enough.

So if you go to the trouble to bid zero cents, you'll be insuring me from those ugly placeholders in the future as well as potentially getting some free advertising. Of course if you think the space is worth something, you can bid that too.  ;D

Now that I've gotten a feel for Project Wonderful, I'm going to be removing one of the ads because it's just kind of awkward and messes with navigation, and adding a few new ads right next to the comic. I don't expect those spots to be empty for any period of time. Still, I have the option to put something there as a default for when there are no bidders. I'd still like to do that with the other ad spaces as well. I was thinking it would be nice to put Free State Project, NH Underground, NH Tea Party, FTL, Sakal/CAI, Porc Manor, Shire Silver, Free Keene, Free Minds TV, etc. If you can get graphics to me from one of these groups and a URL, I'll make it the default. I'm sure I've forgotten some worthy groups so ask. Nothing that is overtly political please. If it's kind of dabbling in politics but is also focused on a lot of out of the system, that's probably ok. This is an anarchy site, after all. You can still bid on ad space if you want. I'm just not inclined to give any away to political groups.  :)

I have one skyscraper with no default. It's 160 x 600. It can be an animated GIF.

There will be three new spots that are 125 x 125. Animation will not be allowed as they're right next to the comic strip. Great location though.

Also five horizontal buttons 117 x 30 which can be animated GIFs.
