Government has been somewhat careful with the Amish over the years. I remember reading that they (Amish) had to start paying a road tax for their horse and buggy set ups. Too bad they have beaten all their swords into plowshares.

The nonviolent resistance is the only reason they have held onto what they have. As soon as they had used the violent methods they would have been squashed.

Don't you think the hands off policy was because in the past "our" government has considered the Amish sacrosanct?

The government has never considered them sacrosanct. The government has only been wary of public perception, which is that the Amish are peaceful quiet people who will not resist government violence. If the government treated the Amish the way they treated the Branch Davidians, there would be widespread public outrage.

Enough outrage might jeopardize the funding and military toys used for such tactics.

I have to agree with you. After sleeping on it I guess I am giving the government way too much credit. AS IF there is a soul in there somewhere.
