My favorite quote from this article:

But what it really comes down to is whether one believes in justice or not. It's easy to support justice that works to your own favor, but the true test of moral citizenship is when you uphold justice even when it is a personal inconvenience.

Hawaii is a good start. American citizen's tax dollars support the corporation called the U.S. Government occupying of the following countries/islands/regions.

    * Puerto Rico
    * U.S. Virgin Islands
    * American Samoa
    * Guam
    * Northern Mariana Islands
    * Minor Outlying Islands
          o Baker Island
          o Howland Island
          o Jarvis Island
          o Johnston Atoll
          o Midway Islands
          o Wake Island (claimed by Marshall Islands)
          o Palmyra Atoll
          o Kingman Reef
          o Navassa Island (claimed by Haiti)
          o Serranilla Bank (disputed with Colombia)
          o Bajo Nuevo Bank (disputed with Colombia)

 Nice article on Hawaii and not surprising the U.S. annexed it we were flexing our muscles then.
Probably won't find that account in any public school history books though.
The term "protectorate" is interesting. My how noble we are to offer protection services. What exactly have we protected them from?

I have a vague theory...since the U.S. is in economic trouble and the only thing it seems to have going for it is bigger arms than everybody else...it's logical  it will attempt to expand by force, again. Sure seems to go along with  the present foreign policy of being America World police. (fuck yeah! great movie but I digress) I look for the list of "protectorates" to grow in the future rather than reduce. I also think the draft might be reinstituted under some fabricated national crisis...involuntary servitude be damned.
A revival of manifest destiny under the guise of Patriotism? I'm thinking yes. This time they will have to create a really big crisis to get all the uh Patriots back in attack mode, due to short attention spans of the public and all. Maybe even get some new country songs going about freedom and not messing with America to liven up the spirit.

I've read there's some kind of movement going on out west with the Lakota (Sioux) and claims of sovereignty. The problem seems to be how do you sue the government? Anybody know?

It seems treaties are meant to be broken. I wonder if anyone has done any research on when, what and how many treaties the U.S. government has broken?  It would make for an interesting data base and series of articles, maybe even a book or I imagine maybe even volumes of books.

Bruddah Iz (R.I.P.) was a quiet man who advocated sovereignty for Hawaii. Some of his songs were overtly political, but most were just about the joy of living in Hawaii.

UFC lightweight champ, BJ Penn, has sported a shirt with the phrase "Hawaiian Knowledge Unity Sovereignty" on it.

He also comes the cage to Bruddah Iz's E Ala E.
